@@D1ab0lical Puyo was definitely not "Just Tetris", and neither is this. Tetris is back because they finally remembered that the game must have a twist in order to be seen as a worthy purchase. Tetris Effect has entire mechanics not found in other Tetris games.

Most of the time I just have Vinnys streams running in the background for some white noice, rarely do I pay attention to the screen. But this Tetris stream had me at the edge of my seat.

I literally signed up for Nintendo online for this. I didn't think they could make Tetris more addicting. I hate Battle Royale games, but this is something totally different for me... I played it from 9 pm to 5 am on day one without even noticing. This is one of those ideas that sounds laughable in theory but is actually amazing. Likewise, if you told people one of the best killer apps for Nintendo online wouldn't be Splatoon or Fortnite but a Tetris variant everyone would have laughed, and yet here we are.
With 11k viewers, Vinny is unwittingly hurting himself if he doesn't make this his primary game. If he doesn't play this one video game on stream every day for hours on end, he is shooting himself in the foot. Playing any other video game, ever, would show a lack of focus and dedication to his work, and dissuade valuable business partners such as Monster Beverage Corporation from investing in the Vinesauce brand. Vincent, please reconsider your business strategy to retain professionalism and optimum customer engagement.

Watching Tetris 99 is actually a lot of fun. Tetris is just such a classic, and this just makes it absolutely insane lol. Also it's a very simple design which is great for watching the game. I suck at Tetris, lol, but I like to watch people who are actually good at it.

Praise this game all you want, its still Tetris, that's what makes it good. Tetris is difficult to do wrong, but this is an example of multiplayer Tetris done perfectly

I know I shouldn't be so judgemental but there are moments in this where I feel physical pain seeing him make a mistake that was entirely preventable yes I know it's hard to act right in the moment but still

The problem is that meme is ironic, and this is *UNIRONICALLY* better than any of those. We all laughed and though it was a dumb idea, and then we actually played it and realized it was amazing.
Here is a tip: you cause more destruction by chaining lines together rather than going for a tetris every so often. The most destruction is caused from various t-spins, but very hard to do and not really worth doing in tetris 99.
I can't believe that this game costs nothing to download. I was amazed by how much fun I was getting from it. It also let me pretend that I was actually good at Tetris. Well, except for those times when half the field filled up at once and the game lasted less than 30 seconds.
First poyo tetris, then effect, now 99. What a way to revitalize Tetris and actually put it on the map for many gamers (since many of them just see tetris as some filler game in athe library of any platform)
I feel like this would be so much better (not saying it isn’t already amazing) if you could earn coins or something (blocks, maybe) to spend on stuff like backgrounds, music, different looking tetrominos (like in Puyo Puyo Tetris), sound effects, etcetera.
