when Thorfinn starts “far to the west…” i immediately start sobbing - it’s not just a story ab some strange distant place. It’s a prayer. to get something, anything, better from somewhere anywhere other than here. There. has. to. be. better. And i never felt that harder than with Arnheid’s death.
We have to MAKE better. It reminds me a decent amount of God of War and "we must be better" just with a lot less murdering. Its just screaming and fighting and saying we'll make better or we'll die on that hill. Thorfinn knows he's fighting the very tides and the world itself is against him but he still says I'll make the world I want to see. Its not naive like Thorfinn knows the fight he's taking on as an orphan and full FULL participant of war and hate but he's made his mind up and the odds simply don't matter because trying is the only thing that matters.
I mean, he did not get an extended backstory in the manga either. There are hints here and there but I honestly prefer it that way. We don't need to know everything.
So with Snake, The director and the mangaka made a point to apologize, because there were plans to have his backstory there, but it wasn't done because there wouldn't be any space for the story in the anime. It's not really in the manga as well. The anime does mention some back info in episode 17. I'll put it down with a spoiler tag. *Spoilers* In episode 17 Snake does mention that he was a soldier of Miklagard, which was Constantinople (Byzantine Empire), and modern-day Turkey. Based on his sword it is assumed he was a high-ranking soldier, perhaps a member of the Vanarangian Guard, which were elite bodyguards who served the Byzantine Emperor.
Yeah Vinland Saga is completely different from any other animes. Like when you said Next...there really isn't an anime like vinland saga. Vinland Saga doesn't feel like an anime...it feels like a live action with real people.
Gained a sub. Really like genuine reaction. Surprised your subs are low but defs keep doing what your doing and keeping it real. I enjoyed your reaction a lot.
Aww you got the shitty translations. In the better translations, Einar tells Arnheid he loves her instead of that baby ass "really like you" bullshit. Thorgil also has a cooler line when he attacks Canute when he asks where he came from, he says "From Helheim!"
poor arnheid, but i can understand why she lost the will to live after everything that happened to her. einar's lost yet another person he cared about, he can never catch a break, but at least thorfinn is looking out for him as a true friend. leif is also just a good man!
