The guy on the center left unintentially helped the priest prove his point. A savage who lusts after blood spilling and rejects anything wholesome. Its not just the guy on the left tho when the priest starts talking about Ragnars love being discrimination and that only the dead embody true love the other reactors where also resisting to listen and entertain what the priest was saying, but thats what you get from a generation who has the atention span of a fish. If you don't have the courage to have your believes questioned like this time by the priest you are a coward who will never find the truth period.

The priest’s argument is that “To Love” is “To be Pure”. But purity is an impossible human trait. Everyday, we go about, judging, discriminating, thinking less of others, especially to strangers who are in need. So his argument is “how can we love when we can’t be pure?” Growing up, there was only one man I know who embodied that purity, and it was Christ. Because he never turned anyone away who came to him. He sat with the broken, the sick, and the poor. Broke bread with those filled with hate and sin. He shared conversations with those who were immoral and lived by sin. Hell, the woman he hung out with the most was a former prostitute. When he was arrested he didn’t resist and told his disciples to let them take him. When he was tortured and nailed to the Cross, he didn’t curse them or hate them, he only prayed to God to forgive them. The only other person the priest considered was close to such purity was Thors. Hearing the tale of how he was the only one who died in that cove while refusing to kill his attackers. He was willing to give his life so that nobody else, even his attackers would die. “A True Warrior doesn’t need a sword.”

It's a pretty drastic change in like 5 minutes as middle-left guy annoyingly points out, but a lot has led up to this. He'd already been wavering in his faith, and he's seen how a king should act ("should" ). Thankfully though, he's been brought up by Ragnor, who's shown him love (discrimination). He has the tools, the confidence from his jarl upbringing, and a new philosophical mindset, to enact his new views. This has essentially long been coming, but Ragnor's death was the catalyst. And I guess it helps to have a priest who's been studying love for a while around.

The priest is basically saying that human love is not indiscriminate love which is in his opinion "pure love" or the love that Christ/God showed, so the world, god's creation, loves indiscriminately, it treats everyone the same but humans don't do this or, as he thinks can't do this. That's why when he hears the story of Thors and how he behaved he was so shocked because Thors really did TRY to exercise that "pure love" as a human in what he calls being a "true warrior", even he himself ultimately failed. It's a very interesting perspective

I remember why this Manga is my favorite alongside Vagabond. I love both, but ranking things are simply too difficult for me. They are both special to my heart. A true warrior through Thors eyes is exactly what the Priest believed love is. The Priest believed that loving is to be pure to all things. To defend those even if they stand against you. True love isn't bounded by love for a person or thing. A person can hold more "love"' for one person than another, but it cannot truly be called love. True love is the equal balance of liking everything the same. No more, no less, no matter how difficult it is to hold that love. Thors saw the importance of life after killing so many, seeing so much, and inflicting so much on others. That's why he stated "A True Warrior Needs No Blade." Thors understood the importance of life to a human, as he is one as well. Through seeing this, he couldn't truly hate anyone, which is why said that no one really has "enemies". That's his vision of a True Warrior. Someone who understands the importance of life for all, hence why he didn't kill anyone on that boat. He simply hoped people would begin to love life and understand as much as he did. The priest called what Canute said was "love" discrimination. The reason why is because the love Ragnar had towards Canute was only for Canute. Unlike Thors' understanding of how important life was for everyone (which stopped him from killing people), Ragnar only held that amount of love for one person. I believe this is why when the men who told the Priest about Thors' last moments, he was extremely hooked and even restating Thors' words. Because that was the closest anyone had come to displaying True Love, which requires being pure, which humanity lacked. The priest however, knew Christ was the only person who displayed True Love. That's why when the priest learned Thors had been the only one who died, despite dispatching several men with none of them dead, and protecting his own people in the process, he was baffled. He saw that Thors was the second person who was close to embodying "True Love". I may be wrong, but maybe through more information and further understanding, I can actually find the real meaning. Seriously, what an amazing Manga/Show. VA and Music knocked it off in this show. Splendid!

The reason why I study japanese language because of the anime back in 2004 i self study my self I started to watch anime when i was a 9yrs old way back in 1990’s the English dub here is really not good tbh compared if you understand Japanese language you’ll understand the important words and story here i feel so bad to people who react this episode they didn’t get the moral of this story in this episode
