Askeladd saw beauty in roman civilisation, bc their purpose wasn t the war and the fights but only to built the greatest civilisation and society, they fought for their civilisation. And that s why askeladd saw beauty in them, bc war wasn t their finality their purpose and that s the same beauty he saw in Thors, a man who didn t want war, a man who wanted to build instead of destroy things. Funny thing is that he hates himself, bc even if he s proclaiming his roman ascendancy he looks and act like a norseman.

thorfinn is just too kind, he's not even plan to kill asskeladd from behind, he got his father's blood in his vein, the blood of true warrior for sure

You didn't understand anything ? Askeladd was awake when Thorfin thought of killing him while he sleep. He created that chance for him to understand Thorfinn's character and he realized that he is a stupid kid because there is no good or bad way in killing your enemy especially if they are scums and evil. If you have chance use it and get rid of him don't try to fight with honor. To Askeladd fighting is an ugly thing, killing is an ugly thing, and you only do it when it is necessary, just like when he tried to save his mother or to save Wales and stop the barbarian vikings from destroying other lands for their desire to die in battlefield. The true warrior to Thors mind different from the one to young Thorfinn and other vikings like Thorkill, vikings want to die fighting to enter Valhalla, any one who dies without a weapon in his hand and any who dies not fighting will not make it to Valhalla. So to the vikings despite Thors being the strongest he's not warrior. But to people like Askeladd and the christian priest he is the true warrior because Askeladd know Thors is not like them he doesn't fight only to die in battlefield, he doesn't desire wars he only fight when necessary to save what is important to him.

I swear to God, its hard to listen through all those reaction this guy in the middle left. All he cares is a fight, he doesnt listen at all what the characters are saying; but then he quickly changes he's mind as soon as Thorkell say the opposite thing. This is the exactly the worst sort of people watching this show, they just dont get it.
