@@TheGl0ryan looking by his backstory, Garm prolly always tough everyone in the battle field are friends and they're having fun-- such twisted world view
after seeing this scene again i'm reminded of how much thorfinn uses askeladd's techniques of unarmed combat and even the mental games with thors' philosophy, really melds together
Askellad was as much as a father to thorfin as Thors was, that's the beauty of it, with the passing of time thorfin learned to see askeladd as a father too in his own way, not the father he would dream of but the one he had and taught everything he knows, just like askellad did with his own father, he hated him, he couldn't even stand the idea of sharing the same blood of that man but in the end he learned a lot from his father and he acknowledged the fact, the main difference is that thorfin had at least been able to break that chain of hatred but I want to believe that's also a merit of askeladd because by him being a better father to thorfin than what his own father ever was to him he was able to set him on a better path and so on
@@7aemr no, you didn't get what I mean, what I'm saying is, askellad's father was horrible to him so he tried to be a better father figure to thorfin so he might break the cycle of hatred
@@Melissa31179sorry but I 100000% disagree. People try to find romance in every character AND father/mother relationships. They did NOT have a son/father relationship. They had a student and mentor relationship. Don't get them confused
@@genz75 I really hope the anime fleshes it out more. I was really sad it cut away from it half way through and then cut back to both of them being absolute brutalized by each other.
Anytime Askellad appears to Thorfinn, you know it’s about to reach new levels of PEAK! “See?” “Ah I see…” Thorfinn finally learned what Askellad was trying to teach him all that time ago.
@@revanliviar1239 yep he literally follows Askeladd move for move. As abusive as he was, Askeladd was a great mentor when it comes to mental and physical combat.
Askellad was ruthless and cold but he mean no evil against thorffin. Thors was probably the only men he ever respected and he did the best to not kill thorffin for nothing. The boy proven to be strong but not smart and askellad was sad for it. he looked for thorffin with hopes of seeing Thors sometimes. Both would be proud of thorffin after he regained his freedom
I love how Askellad and Thors teachings parallel. Thors taught Thorfinn good morals and what it means to be a good warrior while Askellad taught Thorfinn how to survive and teach others how to survive in the cruel world.
to some extent, this fight shows/implies Thorfinn's greatest "weakness." in order to build people a peaceful place to call home, he must be mentally and physically strong. he *must* be an expert. however, not every person can become an expert. after Thorfinn passed away, the people he loved would be left unguarded. one strong and powerful man is just not enough to make the promised land come real.
That’s why he needs to have a child of his own to train, a child with his genetics and reflexes. Supposedly he has an another unnamed child outside of his adopted one.
This is why it’s never enough to merely be a moral person, or a person of integrity, or to have a vision. You must have all of those things to be great, but you must also have power. Power is as much of a virtue as the other attributes.
Only thing I didn’t like was how they didn’t show the rest of the journey to Greece. That would’ve been interesting to watch how thorfinn dealt with a different culture
@@Chadius_Thundercock I feel like, authors thinks themselves funny (and I would too), if seeing how people make fanfics, that their own fans would make small web comic strips or posts about the interesting parts of the show which weren't shown. Like the Avengers chilling in the soul stone, or Cap returning the Infinity Stones, etc.
Quick question: are you knowledgeable on the vast number of seiyuu in Japan? If so, then should the 3rd season of Vinland Saga come out, who would you like to see or *_hear_* as the voice of Garm? My personal favourites are Shun Horie, Tasuku Hatanaka, and Kikunosuke Toya!! ☝🏾😁
Garm saying Thorfinn had fun killing people pissed me off. I've seen almost all his battles, and not once was he ever having fun in any of them. He did all of those killing for his ultimately fruitly revenge. Not everyone involve in a war likes it, you spyco.
Thorfinn played war games as a kid. Now, he's fighting Garm, who treats a real war like it's a children's game. Full circle. It's like how Gi-hun and Sang-woo played Squid Game as children. Then as adults, they play Squid Game to the death.
@@vince7520 Thorgil is strong but he is little above regular jomviking Snake strenght is there to, but slave Thorfin was able to keep up with Snake, without a sweat Thorfin was weakest in second season thats also fact
Thors is literally on top, he got the Thorkell's strength, Thorfinn's speed and AskeChadd's battle IQ (since he outsmarted AskeChadd in their fight) And as for Thorfinn, I think he might have even climbed above Thorkel's tier by now cuz there's no way he won't improve as he gets older.
Hild: 🤕If you killed that crazy spearman, I'll kill you. Thorfinn:.. Hild: *its not like I'm gonna cry if you are killed.* You survive this one. Thorfinn: 😐
I haven’t watched the video or read the comments since I don’t want to be spoiled. But I just wanted to say thanks for the spoiler warning in the title and non revealing thumb nail. I appreciate it :)
The first time I saw Thorfinn like this I was so mudaf***ng hyped... I though - they used "arise" on my man Askelaad. This fight was one hell of a turn point for Thorfinn
Man, as someone who doesn't mind spoilers, this was AWESOME to see. I am a huge fan of the lessons Askeladd taught Thorfinn. In short - I love these two. This made me tear up!!! Does Thorfinn think of Askeladd much in the manga past season 2 of the anime? I have been itching to know if Askeladd is a thought in his mind still?! ❤
@@19powpow91 there’s the moment from this video in chapter 156, and I know for sure there’s another one in the current arc, but I haven’t started reading the current arc yet so I’m not sure which chapter it’s from. Though there are a bunch of different moments where Thorfinn gets reminded of his past, and while Askeladd may not be the main focus in those moments, you know he’s still on Thorfinn’s mind.
@@chill1694 thank you! I have one final question! Lol. Does Thorfinn ever talk about (or think) fondly of Askeladd for what he taught him? Or do you still get the impression that Thorfinn is haunted by him still?
@@19powpow91 In this scene he acknowledges that the things he learned from Askeladd are keeping him alive. I think Thorfinn is still kinda haunted by him, but in chapter 68 Einar tells him “nothing good can come from hating the dead”, and Thorfinn responds with “I don’t hate him anymore…… that’s what makes this so hard to deal with. Now that my hatred is gone… I’m empty.” Thorfinn has healed a lot since that point, but his past still plagues him, though probably not as much as it did during farm arc. Spoilers for current arc: I haven’t read this far, but I’ve seen a panel of Leif saying “Follow your heart. My son.” with the image of Thors and Askeladd to each side of Leif. I don’t think Thorfinn thinks really fondly of Askeladd, but Askeladd was a big part of his life and caused Thorfinn to be the way he is, whether it be useful skills to stay alive or bad memories and ptsd. I’ve seen someone say it’s like an abusive parent, and I think that describes it fairly well.
I love this, I've been thinking about making an mmv on my own about one very special chapter of vinland saga. What editing program did you use? Would you recommend that for beginners?
Thank you! I use Alight Motion to make the panels fit the screen, and to have them move how I want. I also use Capcut sometimes for transitions, and effects like zooming out.
If you have more questions about the specifics, you can let me know and I’ll try my best to answer. These apps have a lot of different features that can be overwhelming, but there are only a few features that you really need to know about in order to make an edit.
Why do they make it seem like Thorfinn would loose to Hilde? If he EVER fought her with the desire to kill her (not to subdue her or injure her, but to actually kill her) she’d be dead no questions asked.
Hello , I am a fan of Vinland Saga ,i love your video ,i am a blogger of bilibili in china,I want more anime fans to see this video, can i repost this video on bilibili? I will credit video source and your channal, hope you can agree
Thank you! I haven’t read Vagabond yet, but I do plan on reading it since I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Once I read it I will probably make some videos on it.
haha, have you read the manga? it's not a big point in the story or anything but at least one character who sees Garm fights thinks to himself that he might be one of Thorkells bastard sons.
I got a feeling that Hild will fall in love with Thorfinn He might have learned it from Askelladd but it also remind me of how Thor fought and his mindset is becoming like that
Nah that won’t make any sense. Thorfinn is already married and has a child. I think there’s even a second child on the way. Would make no sense to have Hild love thorfinn
