Vinnie shows you his unique approach to soloing. Topics included are: Major and Minor scale patterns, chromaticism, arpeggio shapes, sweep picking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, intervals and altered, diminished and whole-tone scales.
Vinnie also teaches you his Pick-Finger combinations for playing super fast scales, arepggios and licks along with right hand tecniques to create rhythmically accented picking. This video will enable you to expand your melodic range and develop state of the art Rock techniques.
Vinnie Vincent first established himself as a guitar player and writer in one of the most famous heavy metal bands in history. In 1984, Vinnie moved on to form his own band, The Vinnie Vincent Invasion, who have put out two albums on Chrysalis records.
Combining skill, power and speed, Vinnie established himself as a respected guitarist on the bands 1st album, The Vinnie Vincent Invasion. The Invasion's 2nd album, All Systems Go was released in May 1988 and shows Vinnie's progression in skill and style. His sound and style are easy to identify: When you hear Vinnie play, you know it's him!

Holy crap! He was not heralded as the truly badass axeslinger he was then or now. I've just listened to this first time now, been a guitarist for over 40 yrs, 20 pro and while EVH, Vai and others got revered and known, he went under the radar big time! As a kid playing guitar, and becoming a VVI fan as a kid, I honestly didn't think he had any idea what he was actually doing when it came to his leads on the VVI albums. Just a flurry of ridiculousness. Watching this, although it still may seem like a flurry of ridiculousness, i now understand it's a knowledgeable, purposeful and calculated flurry of ridiculousness. I wasn't expecting this much method to the madness. Wow. Aside from being a great song writer, VV has an interesting, unique technique. The value of that shouldn't be overlooked.

If you want to hear how much Stanley respected Vincent read his books or if thats a bit much there's plenty of snippets of him talking about the habits of Vincent, it really doesn't sound good, from his 1st jam when he went done on his knees to pouring his food back into the bands Stew pot to stanley having to pull him off stage to stop his extended solo which came close to a fight as Vincent told Stanley to never do that again, the guy was an egoistical, ignorant, arrogant, puke shredding guitar asshole, who got his ass finally fired! Stanley's words.shame, why do you think he didn't get invited to anything kiss related? they couldn't stand him. He comes back after 20 years doesn't play any shred guitar, looks very strange, fails to turn up to his own gigs, and charges a fortune for his online cds etc, his website looks hacked presently. Did he go down to the crossroads, I mean he was playing rhythm on instant replay in the 70’s and in the 80’s he emerges as a shredder? Vinnie must have spent hours developing his techniques, one of a kind in my opinion.

I thought you were joking, but the man is literally showing you how to turn the pentatonic into a chromatic scale, but without telling you just to play the chromatic scale. It's like EVH and Dimebag playing the same pattern on all strings all over the neck and somehow landing on the right note at the end, except he's essentially using the pentatonic as a framework to hang chromatic insanity on. Say what you want about his playing, none of us can get away with what he's doing.

I know this is a 3 yr old comment, but I just came across this comment and have to say that I agree with you on every level. He's a truly amazing song writer, and a very talented guitar player, but as gene simmons once said, guys who only play fast sound like an angry bee. But I think the songs he wrote for kiss were the best songs out side of the Ace Frehley years. Ace wrote such amazing solo's. I know that there's nothing Ace Plays that Vinnie couldn't play. but Ace Is an amazing guitar soloist. I still think Vinnie has it in him to write great melodic solo's.

Unmistakable sound. No one sounds like Vinnie. It is not just random notes either. There is definitely a style and reason to the madness. Perhaps the most original sounding guitarist ever. Some may not like the chaotic sound of the fast notes but don't kid yourself into thinking that it is the only thing that Vinnie can do. Vinnie can play all the normal blues based shit that any other player can play. And he can also come up with some of the most beautiful note choice phrases out there over a given chord melody. He just chose to do something completely different than all of the other copy cat players of the time that pretty much all tried to sound like Van Halen or Hendrix. He is very capable of playing the same ole sounds and scales that everyone has become so acclimated to.

OK here's the real deal on Vinnie - his playing (whether you like it or not). Vinnie was an extremely talented guitar player, songwriter and even singer (Gene admits to it 100%) who simply let ego and bad business ethics get the best of him. He made the classic mistake of thinking that fast, flashy playing was a better gauge of your ability as a guitarist, than playing what was appropriate for the song. People talk about Yngwie's ego, but Vinnie makes him look like Mother Theresa. If you go through this instructional video with an open mind, one cannot deny he knows his music theory, has a vast knowledge of scales and the "speed" techniques of that period. Whether that all added up to playing people enjoyed isn't the issue. Vinnie is a classic case of a missed opportunity because his idea of who he was and what he was entitled to and reality were vastly different. Love him or hate him, the guy was a talented musician who screwed himself. Not the first and not the last.

It's musically horrendous. There's a video on RU-vid where Steel Panther's "Satchel" talks about how you can just play any damn notes you want, as long as you land a note that happens to be in key. Even though he's half joking there's something to be said for that. But Vinnie doesn't ever land on a note anywhere. His playing is the equivalent of sonic guitar vomit. A machine gun of cacophony spewing away. Someone here said he should play for Slayer. I'd actually agree with that lol.

You do know that pick-and-finger techniques were used in rock music from the very beginning, right? When country pickers joined backing bands of Rock 'n' Roll singers in the 1950, they brought that with them. Cliff Gallup of Gene Vincent And His Blue Caps is just one of many examples.

As much as people slag him, he is MASSIVELY talented. Just ask the people he's played with. Also, the guys in Iron Maiden have all said he has Jeff Beck DOWN. Obviously, he wasn't trying to play in the style of the mid-late 80's (shredder city) which doesn't translate well into today's music. Unfortunately, at times he was playing for VV instead of playing for the song - though he certainly can play tastefully. A Million to One comes to mind.....

Everything works when you put it into context. Yes you can chord tone solo and target the right notes for uber melodic solos. But per an article in a musicians institute, it gets boring and predictable pretty fast. Evh symmetrical scales that everyone now seems to love don't really make sense in terms of them being within key. But they sound cool asf when he rips through them. George lynch like to slide into and out from chromatic tones out of key in his solos. Being in key is nice and all. But going out of key becomes really wild and interesting especially if you are able to resolve that tension in really creative ways.
@thesollylama130
@thesollylama130 2 года назад
Like most shredders, Vinnie shows his musical chops when he slows down. He can compose some amazing pieces but he relies on gluing them together with just cramming notes into measures. Pretty much anything he plays would sound even better at half tempo. I listen to his solos trying to pick out the parts where he slows down and does something with the phrasing. There is not much room for phrasing when everything is sixteenth notes. It's impressive to see that speed and accuracy, but it's very one note (sorry for the pun) music writing. There is a famous quote-- If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter. (attributed to multiple sources).

Vinnie is awesome, I used to like him, then I hated it, but now after listening to him say things like "when I see this Dm7 and this E7 I see and hear this scale", by using the "block" you can use any notes in that block (Marty Friedman even says so), yes it better fits jazz progressions and if he was playing over those it would be similar to Helmets solos style sound. Yes its fast, yes its chaotic just like his life, its a projection of his inner self. but to say he has no "felling" is stupid, just listen to that beautiful wall of sound, frequency and chaos, it makes me "feel" like playing air guitar right along with him and let out some aggression and blow some shit up with some Whammy Bar Dive Bombs, all with a smile on my face for Vinnie doing it exactly the way he wanted to.
