Which part of TX? I would love to have a meet & greet! I’ve watched you and Shelby for yrs. You and I have had some private DM’s before if you remember, I know you probably get a lot 😇 I’m in Central TX. If Mini Mo is coming to Central TX and you need assistance checking on things I’m here.😊 like for real, I would shoot updated videos privately of course. Or just check in on things, pretty much I’m offering to be a VA for this project 😊 Either way it’s going to turn out perfect for you I can feel it!
Smart move Monica on not going with that company. They were truly ripping you off by tens of thousands of dollars. The rule of thumb always get at least 3 quotes from various companies when getting any work done.
No offense, but I think the Airstream dealer/renovator was a crook who saw you coming. Shame on him. He knew "Mini Mo" was trash. And he still ripped you off while on camera. He should be embarrassed.
@@duc25xr Watch the video....a honorable businessman doesn't sell an Airstream with a rusted bottom without disclosing it to the customer....then tell them it's thousands to fix it. If this Airstream guy was so great, why did Monica decide to do business elsewhere. Why would you defend this clown?
@@681Group yes I agree with that last comment, and it's the first thing that came to mind while watching this. They have an obligation to inform buyers of such facts. I also thought prices for renovation were pretty outrages.
Wait so the same person who told you that Mini Mo would need minimal frame work then came back and said it would a ton of frame work?! 😅 Glad you’re taking it to a new place! Can’t wait to see the end result
I honnestly think that she should press charges against the guy who sold her the airstream. She has the proof on camera that he said it was in good shape !!
I feel like they tried to scam you. I am sure the shop may have not known all that work needed to be done, BUT they had to have had a clue. Wheweee. Glad you went with a different company.
I get the feeling if you're looking to make money from an airstream it's not the right move - but if it's for personal satisfaction and usage then go for it. I tend to assume that everything you do is for financial gain (get that bank!) so maybe a tough project to reconcile. Loving the series and the journey you've been on as a family with the airstream :D
I love watching your channel because you are so open about your gains AND LOSSES. That can be hard to admit to do as an influencer especially around finances
I feel like the air stream reno wouldn’t be financially worth it for the regular person, but I feel like as a content creator you’ll be able to monetise it through youtube, potential sponsorships and other avenues like freelance articles about the process on websites like medium. I’m looking forward to airstream renovation content!
A lot of people buy Airstreams for the experience, not so much just for the investment and making money off of them. It’s a project that’s a lot easier to undertake if you have the passion for it.
So great to hear you changed your mind on that place as when I heard $101,000 I was like no no no! Don’t do it! Hope the Texas company is much better and reasonable price.
A new 19’ Bambi is $62k. The reno company that quoted $101K, I’m sure, also made a commission for selling the 19’ to you. Of course, he told you it was a good buy. You basically paid $12K for a VIN number because everything had to be replaced.
After the last episode, I was curious why you didn't mention getting other bids. Also feel like the guy who sold it to you under the premise that the frame is good and then tells you after that the frame is not good is not someone you would want to go with.
"the frame is extremely rusty" says the same company that sold you the airstream. You have him on camera selling you the airstream and telling you that it is in good shape. Fill a complain against him, he is scamming you !
Girl, just cut your losses and get rid of it. Renovating these things are only worth it if you're doing the work yourself, and/or planning to actually use it frequently. The content isn't even worth it if you're not filming the whole process, we'll only get to see bits and pieces of it when you go visit (and lets be honest, you're historically not good at keeping those kinds of plans)
Congrats on finding a better Reno company in Texas! I’m even more excited to watch now. A lot of DIY renovations look cool, but I have a lot of doubt that they know what they’re doing and so if I follow along, I might be making some serious and dangerous mistakes. I think having professionals show you how it’s done is not only better and safer, but it will be really unique content as most YT videos don’t have the authority of professional renovators. Congrats!
Yes! Agree 100%. I was not going to follow this series anymore until she made the shift from this guy. Now, hopefully Monica will be treated better and more wise 😊!
I know you feel regret over the airstream purchase, but I want you to know that as a viewer... I'm so happy that there is airstream content. I love that you are going to be able to work on it too. Hopefully Dad Church can join sometimes because it seemed like a good bonding experience for you two.
I think your real-estate agent experience is doing you a favor here. I applaud you for backing out of a mediocre deal after the handshake! I wish I had trusted my gut feeling/instinct regarding my mediocre builder 😢
So the shop that wants to charge you 100k is the shop that sold you the van and said it was in good condition, but now its not. That guy is a rip of merchant
Such a bizarre business model that most are unable to comprehend -- including her mum! No, she's not making sound financial investments... She's creating and monetizing social media content.
sweet jeebus. Coming from someone who works at a truck and trailer repair shop, bills can get pretty pricey at 100/hr labor. BUT, that.... just wow. I'd love to see how much margin the shop had and did they truly source the parts or just grab the first ones they found.
They completely ripped you off, but I’m glad you found another option. Honestly at this point maybe you might want to give even mighty mo a chance and renovate it (maybe get a bundle deal with the Texas company and sell it for far more or rent it out in Airbnb). Good luck with this. You deserve to be treated with respect!
I can never understand the budgets of some of these RU-vidrs; I got a vintage 1978 Argosy for $7500; all original with nothing needed besides tires, a top floor and AC; $3500 later it's beautiful inside and out with its original charm. You don't need these astronomical amounts of money to own a nice rig if you're patient and well informed.
He really did screw you over in selling you another airstream that would take "less work" knowing really well what u wanted to do was fix what you started and finish. Not invest more money in a fixer upper just to be thrown back to square one.
The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich
I always like it that you are not afraid to admit your mistakes like in this case not doing your due diligence. But I do strongly feel that the renovation company should have offered or recommended you a pre-inspection of the frame... they're The Specialist after all and should know the common weak points of these trailers... it just doesn't feel right. If you like the work of the Texas company, maybe you could let them do a low-budget reno of Might Mo if you haven't sold it by then, I still think it's AirBnB-able.
I am with your mom on this one …. Store it at your own house or don’t buy it. You are an adult. Don’t over infringe on your parents generosity. They are people too. Reserve your asks for emergency relief.
Monica, if you’re gonna spend that much money on a renovation, I hate to ask the obvious question but I’ll ask you anyway: did you seek multiple bids on what it would cost? There’s always the chance you could do it at a lower bid and not have regrets about it later.
Being financially successful is all about building multiple income streams that aren’t heavily dependent (if at all) on your time. The Airstream is an income stream dependent on limited engagement, hopefully making enough videos to be profitable. Looks like the renovation company she bought Mini Mo from would have basically locked her out, that’s not going to work, the Airstream becomes negative cash flow. She seems to have found a renovation company that fits her business model, giving her the best chance of turning a profit over time. Although the true payoff is not recovering the renovation cost, it’s the experience gained to replicate similar business models.
Maybe the most valuable RU-vid video I have ever seen! Saved me from years of work to create my Airstream masterpiece, which I would then sell for a loss. Thank you Monica!!
I found your channel when it was millennial life crisis and absolutely loved it. However with this channel now, I’ve found that I don’t really watch as much as I feel like it’s all over the place. Is your channel about real estate and showing Seattle or is it about your air stream? I think a vlog channel would be best for your air stream!
airstream trailers are not the worst thing you can buy in the realm of campers theyre actually the best thing you can buy those aluminum frames and skins arent old enough to be rotten yet maybe in another 100 years however they plywood floors do rot and on cassion the frames get to rusty to continue to use but a rusted out iron frame is actually to be expected especially up north where they salt the roads air streams also are highly sought after the largest model 180 grand the smallest model 56 grand those prices are straight from the airstream website today may 19th 2023 so i say if you have the money and opportunity to buy a vintage airstream buy it worth a lot of money and command a high price if properly restored
Forget the air stream and go build a tiny house. A much better investment in my opinion. Levi Kelly here on RU-vid does tours of some awesome projects.
You could buy a new one for less than 100K. Also when someone is backing up get hand signals straight so they know when to stop. Usually a solid fist straight up in air means stop. If you father is looking in his mirror this would be instant stop. Yelling stop never works because they might not hear you. I actually haul travel trailers for a living. The market is saturated right now.
Oh Monica… I suppose if you have the money to throw around then why not but I would seriously cut my losses and sell everything air stream related and just stay away from it. So much hassle.
@@n9wox yes but she would have to make a lot of content to make up for the losses. Sometimes better to just stop before you get too deep into it, we’ve all made mistakes.
Good morning Monica. Congratulations on creating another excellent video with superb production values. Not surprising however - from a productive and intelligent young woman such as yourself full of hustle. Thanks for sharing a tour of your cozy camper and have a great week. 🌹🌹😉😉😉😉
Agree with everything you said, I'm glad you're not going ahead with the $100k reno. Apparently you can buy brand new state of the art RVs for $80k or so, so not point spending so much on an airstream as nobody will buy it for that much. It's not a house after all! Shame you had to deal with that, must've been a bit awkward taking it away from that company haha.
Did you find an assistant yet? I love your personal vlogs. Weren’t you doing a q& a with Jason? Keep the vlogs coming. I don’t get the Airstream appeal and that guy took advantage of you.
yes, particularly a 19 footer. I'm sure there are some good deals on a slightly used Airstream that's got all the bells and whistles for much less than $100k
Lesson learned any vehicle you want to buy check exterior and underneath for rust. Plus Mom is ALWAYS right. Be honest, seems like you’re more interested in idea of renovating and airstreaming than reality of it.
This sounds like it's not about air-streams, and more about your choices.. I thought this was gonna be about like.. the quality of the trailers. You overpaid for a pos :/ and then almost paid some 100,000 for a conversion? You can't help but kinda laugh at this tbh. And is that part of why they're bad too? Cause you feel the need to pay for shipping to Texas. If you the change the title people might not be... confused.
@@Melinahs19 :D that is crazy in my country that thing goes for 10 to 15k max but the standard here is low we work for 300-500$ monthly, so that amount of money its not ever reachable for us even if we work our whole life :D
I feel like the only way you can be profile is if you fix it up and then park it somewhere cool and rent it out for a year+ otherwise it’s gonna be a loss if you tried to resell 😢
Have you thought of renting it as a tiny home on Airbnb? Would require land to park it on but I see a lot of novelty tiny homes like that on there and you could make more money than just selling it.
It's always a good idea to shop around.. At least the experience is great for content and in the end you're going to have a finished Airstream to enjoy!! 😁
LOL! I'm working on my old Travel Trailer, I use to do Retail Shows from. Its a 4'X8' I'm converting it into a Mini Camper Retro. With Bed, Kitchen, storage, etc. $100,000 I don't think so. I would do the work my self. Like me, I have the tools & the gigs to do it. Most people don't. I would shop around.... The other issue, that you have to do your research first on AIR Streams Campers with costs and you really didn't do that from the beginning... The first one you bought that was a gem but to big for you... Look, there is enough information just on RU-vid about everything needed to help you. You always look under a trailer frame with a heavy duty screw-driver and poke the hell out of the frame. You see layers of rust, big issues. I wish you luck!
In my world I'd totally do work of gutting it myself, skip fancy exterior polish. Intersting watch - I"d love to have one on my property even just to rent out in summer as guesthouse.
With all due respect you got screwed up the ass you gave $7000 for a got it out airstream you should’ve looked a little harder for around 15,000 you can find one that’s all original and have everything all intact
I just don't understand why you aren't going forward with the plans you had for Mighty Mo. I know that dealer gave it a 3/10 but that's nonsense. You already have the chassis done, stripped the Airstream it and cleaned and fixed what was left. All ready to go ahead start building her up. If you can find a good spot to stall her, and you and your dad can find the time to do it yourself you can probably do it for 20-30K. Go browse some Van-life "this is my build and what it cost" vlogs, that can show you how much can be done. Many of those builds need to have everything you do except do it in a smaller space. It seems to me your problem is that you want to have an entire design, but what you should maybe do is start with the diner corner at one end. That's reasonably easy (all things considered) and what you learn from doing that will be a good foundation for doing the rest.
I had someone work on one of these he fucked it up, spent the money they paid him on drugs, and it was left totally bootfucked. They are a huge waste of time. All for the "light weight dream". Saves a lot on gas!
Thanks for being so honest about what is really taking to finish this proyect. We all make bad decisions and its ok, we learn from them and move on. Exciting to see more of you!
