Ok I’m hooked! I have the exact same taste as you. And I’m actually still learning quite a bit from you. I have loved glassware and especially Lustre ware since I was a teenager. And I really hope that the love for the old glassware keeps coming back. Such a pity for it all to be so under appreciated. I’m binging on all your videos. Xoxo

Love today's song. Great stemware today. And the Art Nouveau casket was truly wondrous!

Yes Gloria.....the only "jewelry" that I own is my wrist watch and a ring my grandfather wore. Otherwise.....I'd keep the box myself! It's a great example of American made Art Nouveau

I thrift all the time and have been keeping an eye out for old kitchen ware. It’s so frustrating when you find stuff without lids!! Found a pink depression glass biscuit jar but was missing the lid : ( But I did find a vintage Kromex aluminum breadbox!

I found your channel a few days ago and I’m binge watching! I love glass, especially amber glass, and I have several nice clear glass pieces. Not a good channel for junkies. I really appreciate all of the information and stories. Oh, and play the piano for us a bit more.

Wow. Great haul. I love that kitchen clock. I think I have one similar to it. In my old bedroom, I had 6 of them that lined up above my double door closet. Three were metal, three were plastic. I sold the plastic ones bc I like the metal ones better, plus they are older. The aluminum frame was loose on one of them and one day, it fell off the wall and shattered the bubble glass. I still have it. It is a minty green. That box is really interesting and I have never seen anything like it before. TFS!!!

The kissing Dutch people are by Holland Molds of Trenton, New Jersey. They were the signature piece of the mold company and was actually their trademark all the years they were in business. These pieces are studio, or home made, the color of the underglazes appears to be Duncan turquoise blue which would date that set to the late 60's, or 70's. There were two sizes made for most of the company's life and just before they closed down, they produced two very much larger sizes which you can sometimes find as garden ornaments.

Hi Daryn. I would like to respectfully disagree with you on the kissing Dutch. I'm very familiar with Holland Mold Company and the popularity of homemade ceramics from the mid 60's into the 90''s. In fact, my mother and I took ceramic classes in the 1970's. The Holland Mold examples are marked on the bottom "H M C" for Holland Mold Company. They also have a much larger circular hole in the bottom to allow air to escape in the kiln. Kissing Dutch motifs became popular in American kitchens in the mid 1930's and reached the height of popularity in the 1940's. I can tell by the colors, the glaze and the style, that my example were commercially made by a pottery company either in Japan or USA. I'm certain that they are not homemade ceramics. When you compare my set next to a Holland mold set, you will see slight style differences. Numerous companies copied each other and countless sets of kissing Dutch figurines were manufactured. Compared to armature, homemade ceramics of the 1970's, this set stands out and commercially and factory made.

My Dad had an electric clock. When it was warm it reeked that bakelite smell. I actually got migraine headaches from it. That would have been early to mid 1960's. Most folk still used wind up mantle clocks. I am thinking battery clocks came along later still? Your videos are always informative and cheery. 😊 Oh yes, a bit late to the party but .. your lady looks like Dorethea or Gwen.

New subscriber here (and fellow dealer) have you said what state you are in? I am in the Pacific Northwest and pickings are pretty slim in the Thrift stores here because our Goodwills maintain their own online presence. Flea Markets, alas are almst non existent (the weather is rainy for about 7 months of the year) Anyway, beside the JB company another great maker of gorgeous stuff from the same period is Apollo (who were sort of a down market Tiffany) they made gorgeous vanity items and even a little jewelry the company went out of business in the 50's, anyway I am glad to find a new vlogger who buys antiques and vintage.

Oh welcome!!!! I'm sorry thrifting is not so good in your state but I'm sure it's a beautiful part of the country. I am in the city of Philadelphia. I love JB so I'll have to check out Apollo. Thanks so much for watching!

I looked at the video again. I know you disagree, but I know I'm correct. I made ceramic items for over 30 years. I have these molds still in my basement. The hobby molds were very crude in the early years and not as finished as later offerings. I can tell that these pieces are finished in old Duncan underglazes. The reddish color is magenta. Red was very difficult to work with back in the day, so everyone used Duncan's magenta underglaze to get as close to red as they could. Trust me Scott. With this one, I know what I'm talking about. I use to make these pieces and sell them at church craft shows for years. They were very popular.

Are the two stems not uranium? Sure look like it on the video. Bargain Barons just picked up one of those jewelry caskets. It also still has the silk lining.
@oldcuriosityshop265
@oldcuriosityshop265 6 лет назад
Yup....they sure are uranium. I seldom mention that fact because so much of the green glass manufactured between 1920 and the mid 30's had a bit of uranium in it. Once you have trained your eye....no black light needed! You have a good eye too! I'll check out Bargain Barons.....not failure with that channel. Thanks for the tip!

I know I keep saying it, but you find the coolest stuff at fantastic prices! Best keep them kissing Dutch in separate rooms at night or before you know it you'll be hearing the pitter patter of tiny wood shoes from their offspring! Ha!
@oldcuriosityshop265
@oldcuriosityshop265 6 лет назад
I've developed an "eye" over the years Doug and trust me....I pass by LOADS of junk to find the good stuff. As you suggested, I have separated the randy Dutch teens. They have each been banished to separate boxes!
