I have the exact unit and it has the exact same problem! Just ordered the belt kit!

I like that 70s look. I have a Marantz PMD-502 pro quality tape deck which I bought new in the early nineties. It's still like new. I should plug it in and try it out. Nice unit, great job.

Great repair ! Luckily you got the belts. I have a Teac A 360 from my father, and the same problem : belt is gone and turned into a black mush. Maybe i make 1 in ductape or does someone got a better idea ?

I've got an old GE reel to reel. I suspect one of the motors is shot or it is a degraded belt. (I haven't opened it up yet.) I intend to fix this. I have old tapes of family members and I would give anything to replay those tapes and get them converted to digital formats.

For more control I spray my contact cleaner and lubricant in those fine needle dropper bottles you van get on MCM or Parts Express.

you do know your calibration for the vu meters are off a bit right? while you had it open you sho.uld checked that but i guess you overlooked it. anyhow nice job, i have the Marantz 1015 , i changed the belts but now the vu meters are stuck midway, guess i will have to heat the soldering gun and melt some of that locktite glue on the vu screw to free it up, great vid

Hi Rosie, great video! I have a Marantz 5000 tape deck and it appears to be very similar internally and externally to the Model 800 you’re working on. I followed your approach closely and changed all the belts. I do have a troubleshooting question and a request for guidance: during rewind, when the tape comes to its end, the rewind does not auto stop and the rewind lever does not pop back up, the pulleys keep turning even though the tape is completely rewound. The auto stop/pop up feature works fine on play and FF. Would welcome and appreciate any diagnostic help. Thanks

Hi Rosie, interesting video, I'm not much into electronic stuff, but I like old cb radios n police scanner radios, I have a old cb radio from the 70's r 80's it works pretty good it picks up frequency from other cities, California, Chicago, etc, and I also have police scanner radio, from the 90's but it doesn't work anymore. n I have a CD player pioneer. pd-4300 I think it's from the 9'0s but I don't know if it works, but it looks new. p.s.
