I really want that Mascot Mantle, unfortunately it’s more expensive than I can afford. So many awesome cards, I’ve got 3 I’m bidding on. Love this video, watched it all. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and how you bid on auctions.
OMG!!!! I saw the complete video; it was great!!!!! I have a modest budget for my cards, but for sure, I believe that I can make some bids in REA =) Thanks for sharing
Awesome video Dave! I really appreciate your take on the cards you're looking at and why you're bidding. There are some fantastic cards in this auction. Thanks for the tour! I hope you pick up some of your goal cards, all are incredible!
Fun to hear your observations on this auction, and particular items. I have a few bids out, and will have to make some tough decisions as the deadline nears. So much goodness here!
I have to sit this one out, but there are certainly some wonderful cards on offer! Good luck with your targets! This was a brilliant idea for a video and very well carried out! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge!
Thanks for the video, fun troll thru the auctions. I like that 1951 Topps set, so awesome. Lake to Lake Aaron is great, I'm looking for a Bart Starr. Eskay Meats box is cool. I would like to find an Oklahoma Today in the wild, still attached to the Magazine. Plucked a 1967 Willie Mays for Mayer Topps Test Proof Disc off Ebay.
Hi Dave. I really enjoy listening to you talk about vintage, because of the knowledge and passion you have for these cards. I've only started appreciating and collecting vintage in the past year myself. It is truly amazing what is actually out there, when you start to look into it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, views and knowledge on this video, pertaining to this auction and good luck on your bids. It will be nice to see what card(s) you win, if your fortunate to have the highest bid.
@@Bluejacket66 Of course and you’re welcome! As a Pre-War collector myself, I’ve learned so much from your channel over the years. The wealth of knowledge you bring to the table and the depth of your collection is what makes your channel a must watch for me.
Dave, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts as you perused the auction listings! Good luck with the REA auction! I hope you get a card or cards you really want! 😊👊
Just found your channel today and subscribed. Found this video today - thanks for sharing your thought process interesting. REA does a great job - was totally shut-out of this auction - thought I bid strong on a few cards but came up short. I have not really gotten into pre-war yet, so I really enjoyed hearing you share your knowledge - I learned a great deal watching this video.
Dave, such an amazing group of cards!!!! I agree completely about going after a card you really want. In my nearly 50 years of collecting, I never regretted a time when I bought something that I paid a bunch of money for. On the other hand, I do remember the couple times I didn’t pull the trigger then later regretted it. My advice is go after it(like you said within reason, don’t put it on a credit card, etc). On a personal note, I recently had a stroke and had a pacemaker put in. I reached out to Mike (Baseball Collector) and Ty(Chasing Cardboard) to sell some of my collection to pay for upcoming medical bills, etc. I’m a Pete Rose SuperCollector, Dodgers, and set collector for the most part. I love vintage the most and have a few interesting cards but nothing like your collection. I always marvel at the cards you show. Some day, I would like to meet you and personally thank you for what you have done for the hobby. Keep up the great content and good luck on your next bid. 🙂
Dave I remember you saying that Mantle Mascot was one you really wanted. I say go get that baby you only live once! ( easy for me to say since it’s not my money 😂 ). I hope you get it that would be great to see 👊
Lots of goodies and lots of variety in this auction! Didn't get a chance to grab the REA catalog this time. - love sifting through them with a cup of coffee admiring the photos, and reading up on the history of these cards. Gotta love the REA auctions, always delivers quality auctions. Lots of beautiful and rare candy issues in this one as well. And I also prefer authentic/altered vs getting a PSA 1-2 card that has been run over by tire tracks, or someone used it as target practice with darts LOL. Awesome run through of some great cards in this auction - thanks Dave!
Ruth’s going insane, my thoughts, collectors realized there is move value in Ruth than Mantle, there older, rarer and Ruth was a superior player. Good luck on the REA auction Dave.
Very cool video. I'm a big REA fan, and have about 20 bids out in this auction. Best of luck to you. It's fun, but like you said, I've come up empty on closing night more often than not...
I love the Gum Inc Superman card! How did some of the Stahl Meyers escape into the wild without being packaged with hotdogs? Employees taking them home? Surplus inventory? Are the uncirculated copies more or less desirable? Awesome vid. I enjoy listening to your perspective on the hobby.
Well some were available at ny ballparks at the stahl Meyer stand. You’d get 2 dogs, a coke and a card that was standing up on the tray. High grade examples are very valuable. Follow the ending price tomorrow on the PSA 9 1954 stahl Meyer Willie mays in tomorrow nights REA auction
@@Bluejacket66 You were correct. I called REA to report it and to withdraw my bid. Looks like they pulled it from the auction. But it's clearly a reprint. I find it hard to believe PSA missed it and actually graded it as an authentic PSA 6. Hoping to snag a card or two. We'll see how the closing hours go. Best of luck chasing some more "White Whales" Dave.
Dave, If it was me, I'd go for the 1953 Stahl-Meyer Franks Mickey Mantle in PSA 6. Then again, it might spike sharply when all the bids have ceased. Hard to say. The coloring and print registration on that gem is very strong. The centering is not the best, but many of the ultra-high examples have centering that's a bit off. The lone PSA 8 from '54 went for $210,000 last year, so it's hard to say. Then again, that 8 was dead-centered. Still, Stahl-Meyer Mantles in ultra-high PSA grades are rare, period. I know you don't favor parting with part of your collection for one card, and you'd have to do it post-auction, but how often does a nice Stahl-Meyer Mick come along that's available? Just thinkin'..... --- Brian Powell P.S. You touched on the unique 1954 Stahl-Meyer Willie Mays in graded PSA MINT. Well, that's a dream card for sure.
Dave, as a fellow collector commented, it's easy to spend someone else's money! You're probably right about the ending price point come December 3rd, bro. I am very pleased to hear you are happy with your suite of Stahl-Meyer Mickey Mantles! They're all nice, and you should be pleased; that was a major accomplishment. I truly hope you're able to land a pair of beauties from the REA auction. Have a good day, my friend. --- Brian Powell@@Bluejacket66
Just an early bid that allows you to bid again later if you want. Most auctions have say 10 days you can place bids. On the day the auction closes there is a time ( say 8pm) when “ extended bidding” takes place until the auction closes. You cannot bid in the “ extended bidding” unless you have previously placed a bid. A “ placer bid” is simply an early bid that allows you to bid in the extended bidding near the end of the auction
