Dude those one handed layback recoveries are so sick 🔥I remember my custom 2008 Mistral Twinzer 83L was an absolute gamechanger for me. None of the next boards ever came close that. 5:37 "Wasn't sailing so well", proceeds to combo a taka and a wave3 😅
thank you Thomas! This is a really ownest view on the development of boards. I appreciate this! My personal opinion is that the current board designs tend to be to short. I believe a longer rail line gives you more drive in the turn. Therefore I have gone back in my boards to more old school length. Just a couple more cm. For my weight 93kg it is 234cm.
It only makes sense that a bit of length helps and that shorter doesn't always equal better. I imagine for bigger riders a longer rail line helps even more. Also for most of us that are less than perfect in terms of technique it can be more forgiving.
yes longer rails make for better drive in the turns. but it s about finding the good balance, because shorter boards have the advantage to allow for tighter turns and more progressive approach
The 2007 is my all time favorite, light, tough, fast, radical, handles any kinds of swell and chop, takes 3.7 to 5.3. Perfection. Also helped me immensely on my loop quest!

Nice music! Honest review! Tabou boards of the single fin area used to be the best wave boards by far for European conditions. Smooth to ride with great performance. For sure modern boards have bigger range and allow tighter turns and more tricks on the wave, but nothing gives a better feeling than a good single fin board. The problem is that is more difficult to build a decent single fin wave board than a good multi fin one. Thomas you are the best wave sailor in European conditions!

Funny how much you liked your 16 year old single-fin mono-concave board. Makes me wonder how much board have really improved in the last 2 decades and if this is even relevant for the normal surfer. How much of the board-development is actually responding to fashion or trends in pro-competition, instead of improving the ride-experience of the normal customer?
I think the development made a bigger difference to a normal surfer than to the pros. I think in general boards are much easier to use now (turn and plain) and probably have a bigger wind range maybe compromising the top end performance in some areas and that mostly affects the pros. You have to take into account different riding style and rider size, Thomas is absolutely unique in that aspect.
@@Tomasz_C I totally disagree with that opinion. But I am not talking about 260cm wave boards from the 90th. The current sub 230cm trend is not benefiting the normal surfer. Wether it is about new school moves or beeing radical to go deep in the pocket where short boards benefit. This is nothing a normal surfer wants to. The current trend is a little like having people drive F1 cars but actually they would be happy with a porsche 911. So too many windsurfers will not really enjoy windsurfing to their full potential. But this is just my opinion.

Incredible video! great music. Really the first table is 58 liters? less than 60 liters!!. I weigh 90Kg and the smallest board I have used is 75 liters but with 30 knots. How much do you weigh Thomas?
well, the definition of vintage is, according to Cambridge dictionary : "produced in the past, and typical of the period in which it was made" . it also says : "to be called vintage the piece should strongly reflect styles and trends associated with that era". So I don't feel like I am totally wrong by using the word vintage when I present a single fin board from 2006
@@thomastraversa6908 Fair assesment.. I think im just sensetive to my age, those boards looked pretty decent to me... although saying that your a bit older than I thought!.. difference is you could probably make a barn door rip if you could fit a UJ and rig on it 🤙
