VINTAGE Book + PAPERBACK Pickups - February 2024 - Incredible DAW + Penguin Goodies - ASMR, Maybe!
In this video I take a look through my pickups of vintage paperbacks that came my way in February 2024. A huge batch of virtually mint books from Dorset Bob, some eBay purchases and yet another incredible collection of vintage Penguin catalogues and order forms. Some beauties in here!
These all needed cleaning and making good. It took awhile but the results were great and these will make a worthy additions to my collection.

I’m pretty sure the collection at Dorset Bobs are the collection of the late Jon M Harvey. I bought approx 500 from same collection in similar condition, signed etc

As fans of Wyndham, as you and I both are, ‘Plan for Chaos’ is an amazing gift. Your hardback is from 2009 and a first printing. The only other printing is a Penguin paperback from 2010 (horrid cover in my opinion). Wyndham was stuck with an ending for ‘Day of the Triffids’ and put it away and wrote ‘Plan for Chaos’. He couldn’t sell it in the US or UK and went back to ‘Triffids’. An interesting alternate history would be if he sold ‘Chaos’ and ‘Triffids’ never saw the light of day. I’m thankful things went the way it did.

Always fun seeing the Daws . 😂 . When i heard you mention Charing Cross Road , i said to meself , wait was that at number 84 ? It was not and is not .🤣 . Who read those hand books ? They had their readers i am sure . And a video on the hand books would be interesting and fun . 😂 . On that cook book , those two are cooking 😂 .As always thanks for the video and bye .

A nice collection of Marion Zimmer Bradley published by DAW Books there! Over the years, I've collected all the novels published under her own name, and I have most of those published by DAW, with the exception of the ones shown for "The Shattered Chain", "The Spell Sword", and "Darkover Landfall" - I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for those covers. The first of the Darkover novels published was actually part of an Ace Double: The Planet Savers/The Sword of Aldones (1962).

@@JulesBurt I don't have the first printing of that Ace Double, although I do have two other printings (March & April 1980) each with different cover art - and with the added bonus of a "Darkover Retrospective" by MZB herself; adapted from an article "My Life on Darkover", published in an amateur magazine *Fantasiae* - they were worth getting for that Retrospective alone 😊

Jules, how do you, Andy, and the Outlaw remember so many facts & details? Your memories are incredible! When I listen to your videos with Andy, I'm amazed that he remembers almost all of the people's names on the cards, the dates of many TV shows, and even how many episodes there were. Does Andy use a cheat sheet because his memory is on another level? Are there secrets that you can recommend to us mere mortals to have such an incredible ability to recall so many detailed facts? Thank you for all the amazing content that you all put out.

Both Andy and I have notes compiled before we film. I tend to have bullet points that act as reminders so I cover all the important info. Andy's is more detailed with dates etc but a lot of the information is just in our heads!

Wonderful video as always Jules. Love the DAWs - how many of the 580 yellow spines do you have now? Just watching you clean I was wondering if you have ever done a video outlining the actual materials you use for various aspects of cleaning and - most of all - repairing. If so could you kindly provide a link. If not would you consider doing one because I think it might be useful for old-timers like me who buy, shall we say, not so good copies just for nostalgia value. Many thanks.
