Fantastic work, I saw this and thought of my Dads reels he has modded over the years. He's turned many a reel parts on the lathe too. I just sent him a link to watch. He's retired now but has some machines in his garage to do some of this still. Thanks for the video, I might have pick up some beat up reels to give this a go. On you bearing install where your having a tight fit onto the shaft, I change bearings here at my work and we freeze the shafts sometimes with a freon collar contraption along with heating the inside race of bearing and it goes on like butter. Try putting the shaft in your freezer for a few hours before you heat up the bearing. That should help out
lego4040 Heating a piece of metal with a hole in it will just make the hole smaller. The air in the center doesn't expand the metal expands so the outside diameter gets larger and the inside diameter gets smaller. Heating a washer is a university physics problem. Cooling both parts is what you want.
Interesting a good video. I have been working on reels for like 40 years, partially put my self through college in the early 1980’s. I fixed many Shakespeare 2062’s and 2052’s. I don’t know if the 2062 reels are copies of the Penn reel, I think if any thing, they’re about the same age when introduced, but it it possible. I do know that in their old factory they made MANY spincast and spinning reels for various companies. At one time, they made, many, many reels spinning, spincast and even baitcasters for most American reel companies. The 2052 was at one time the preferential reel of flats guides in the Florida Keys, where the users are considered to be some of the very hardest on reels. They were supplanted by the Daiwa SS1300, which has been catalogued since the early 1980’s. Just a couple of years ago when I was living briefly in the Keys, a couple guides saw my reels, which were Daiwa SS1300 and SS700 which I’ve owned and used in fresh and saltwater up the cost quite a bit from Florida and haven’t had a problem in what 30 years? In my experience, instant anti-reverse hasn’t been all that great except in maybe the past 10 years as some of them, even in some premium reels had plastic parts in their roller bearing assembly’s, these were prone to breakage. I’ve seen some custom reels with both types of anti-reverse systems, the old pawl and ratchet and the roller bearing one-way. As I kind of specialize in UL fishing now in spinning, baitcasting (BFS and even some older stuff) and even fly, I don’t often have to worry about significantly enthusiastic fish on the tackle I choose to use. I enjoy your work, I appreciate your personal preferences, as their yours, keep up the great work.
Those old worm gear drive Shakespeare reels are criminally underappreciated. I have a 2052 and several 2062s...silky smooth and look great too. I really like what you did with this one, looks fantastic. Just sub'd your channel. I do a lot of work on older reels myself and have several videos about vintage spinning gear too so I'm always glad to find someone else who appreciates the oldies 👍
Hello mate, nice work, iwe got Noris 66, from the 60's, and my wire loop isnt staying in place when i close it , could i provide you a video of a problem and the insides of the reel and get some advice on how to fix the issue? Regards!
I'm from honolulu hawaii. How can I contact you for more information. I'm interested and into fishing with vintage DAM quick spinning reels for shoreline fishing. I appreciate! Thank you.
I have many lures to try but might end up tying a fly on the old quick. I'll let ya know. The Trophy XL is from the Pacific Northwest probably Vancouver Island for Steelhead and is a fine match for the Quick. I fish for Trophy Trout and out gross poundage most Salt water Salmon fishermen. Anyways I sure enjoyed your Videos thanks for making them.
Reely great videos always wanted a D.A.M. Quick Finessa 280 for my 9'6" Trophy XL light action spinning rod. There was a guy selling reels outside the local Canadian Tire. 7 reels and $60. later all in excellent condition.1 circa Dam quick 280 1 Mitchell 306 1 Strike King Tide Flo Centerlpin 1 Lampson Lightspeed fly reel 1 Lord Weldon circa 1920's fly reel and 2 1970's Daiwa fly reels. Like winning the big trout derby.only better. I like the dam quick the most. I forgot how much fun spinning gear is. So we are aloud 2 rods in British Columbia if you're by yourself in a boat. Fly versus Spinning gear challenge in order. My fly is the best trolling fly and sell for $150. each or $1000 a dozen. I am doing well with the various lures but the fly is winning in side by side comparison catching sometimes more. But the fly has the biggest so far 8lb. Rainbow trout.
Nice work I have a couple of them can I buy some of the parts from you and also pay you to do a couple of spools and Rotors for me and can I also buy some reels done if you have some
@@bigdmc1 oh ok where could I buy the one way bearings and harden shaft not sure what the brand is that you were using for that part number would appreciate any help I’m new to trying to rebuild my own reels
So I have an old diawa spinning reel that has the anti reverse switch but makes that awful clicker noise when it's engaged. I'm wondering if there's any way to make that stop!?
Beautiful workmanship Darrin.. This is truly a style on its own for such an iconic old piece of gear. I must tell you I did giggle a bit when you stuck the camera in the oven :-) ............... Jay
I have two 2062, and one 2052 they are great little reels but you have taken them to the next level the awesome level!!!👍👍👍 sir you are very talented and I love what you do to these old reels!! Do you ever sell them or can people pay you to do a reel ??
Great job!!! I'm doing a similar project with DAM Quick 330n. Do you know the bearing that would be suitable for one-way anti reverse for this reel (330n)? Please help me.
@@bigdmc1 Thanks for quick response! There is no room for installation of such a ball bearing in DAM 330n. The original ball bearing dimension is: D = 19mm, d = 8mm and h = 6mm. The body shell walls are too thin to make sam room. I can not find any convenient dimension to solve this problem. Maybe your experience can help?
You might be in luck I happen to have the two that are in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-86r0UQz3Cho.html I just bought them this year from the customer I made them for a long time ago. one is still unused the used one has braid spoiled up on it and it was only used one time
@@bigdmc1 I would like to contact you. I live in honolulu, hawaii. I would like to use those reels for shoreline fishing. I'm a old school fisherman and always wanted to own those DAM quick spinning reels. Please let me know what would be the best way to contact you. Thank you. Dean Abiva
+bigdmc1 I'm only going to use braid on it so if you feel it will work I would love to buy this off of you. You do beautiful work restoring these older reels. Is there a better way for me to get in touch with you?
The Adams family called and want their theme song back! 😀 nice job on the video! But honestly who wants an open face reel when their are perfectly good spin cast reels available!
