Laci, with those old-fashioned ice trays, you are supposed to run them under water, before pulling the handle. It doesn't need to be hot water. If you do it -- one pass under the running water -- the lever will pop all the ice out without effort.

So happy you did a cocktail video hope you do a few more. I remember liquors and cocktails always being served up in fancy stemmed glassware by my aunties , uncles and family friends whenever we visited. My mum didn't drink so it was coffee for her in the all matching good china and silver ware. Mint slices or after dinner mints were always served fanned out on a plate. It was all so elegant and sophisticated back then. Just like you Laci the woman all looked so beautiful. However by the 1980s everyone adopted a more casual approach serving up beer in cans, wine in casks, coffee and tea out of non matching mugs. The formality had disappeared.

Ok, the video just started, I've watched 20 seconds but can't focus on your ice crusher. You look EXACTLY like my Aunt Esther today. She was born in 1929, my Dad's oldest sister... he had 8 sisters (big Irish clan) and we have dozens of photos of her with her kids, husband, and dogs. She dressed exactly like you are today... natural red hair curled like you, dresses with full skirts and tight waists, the iridescent bead necklace close to her throat, and bright red lipstick. Oh gosh, she was a real looker (Grandpa speak) and has the sweetest heart. I'm phoning her right now, she's still around & takes good care of herself. She's outlived her husband and both kids, but she lives for her nieces & nephews now. I'm calling her and I'm gonna share your channel with her. Thanks for this look & I promise to watch this video later... maybe with her. 🙂

If you don’t have a juicer use the back of a spoon to ream out the juice but first roll the lime or lemon with the palm of your hand across your counter top to real ease maximum juice before cutting it in half. Then after squeezing the back of the spoon will help get the rest out.
@MrSteveGrey
@MrSteveGrey 3 года назад
Another method is to cut four slices from the lemon or lime, almost like slicing an apple. That way you end up with five pieces that can just be twisted together to juice itself.

Run ice cube tray upside down under faucet for a few seconds. Wrap towel around the lever when you loosen ice cubes (no blood blister, etc.). Put a damp towel under the ice crusher. My Grandma had one of those. She hated it & sent it flying across the kitchen! Went back to putting the ice in a towel & beating it w/a hammer/meat mallet. Said that worked better. Love the dress!!

Few bartending tips: Shake more vigorously, create frost on the outside of the shaker. For the old fashioned, remember the orange, it's a flavor element, wave a lighter across the peel and drop in the drink. For bitters, turn 100% upside down and really give it a good jerk.

Being from Wisconsin, the Old-fashioned is pretty much our state cocktail! We don’t use bourbon or rum though, it’s either whiskey or the more traditional brandy old fashioned. You can order it sweet or sour. My order is: brandy old fashioned sweet with two maraschino cherries. and an orange slice.

A lil tip for the ice tray, let it sit on the counter for 3-5 minutes before breaking the ice. I have a modern stainless steel version of the retro aluminum ones and if I try to break the ice right out of the freezer it either wont break at all or it all shatters into chipped ice.

Tip for juicing your citrus fruit without a juicer- to your citrus fruit back and forth until its a little "squishy" then carefully cut your citrus fruit and squeeze. The goal of doing that is to crush the juice pockets inside the fruit.

Had to laugh at the timing of your video! I just tried using one of these last week; needed crushed ice for a healthy smoothie I just started drinking and was bemoaning the fact I had bought one years ago at a rummage sale but no longer had it. Doesn't my pack rat husband come out of the basement with said ice crusher he had squirreled away unbeknownst to me! It's in the original box too and it's red & white. It's a wall-mounted type and has no base at the bottom. I did manage to crush a few cubes anyway but it was hard to turn - not worth taking up my limited kitchen wall space. Yours looks easier. Oh and I LOVE that dress you are wearing!

Side note: the best Old Fashioned is the Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet. Bartenders Guides published after 2016 have included that version. The first time I tried one of the other versions I gagged. Wisconsin's is the best.

This was a fun video. I actually own the juice-o-mat from Rival. It was my Grandmother's. My kids and I love squeezing oranges for breakfast with it.

Non alcoholic version Yes !!!! 🥰💐🌱🌿🌷🌼🌻🌞🌵🏜️💞💗 Rolling citrus on the counter top with your hand, applying medium to heavy pressure makes the citrus (especially lines) much easier to juice, you can also use a fork to ream the cut fruit. Next you should try making a Manhattan :)
