Richards Guitars in Nottingham are doing these for £367. Just bought a Wine Red V100 with mini humbuckers for that price. The Cherry Red with the P90's is the same price as well. Seriously thinking of getting one of these after your review, tonally it brings something else to the table
A very good and well detailed review of this guitar. Lots of clarity in those pickups, and a bit snarly as well that I like. Is the neck like a typical 50s or 60s tapered?
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it! Yep, these stacked P90s are kind of the best of both worlds... I really, really like them! Just the right amount of snarl, and nice and quiet too. The neck is definitely more 50s than 60s! It's quite chunky, especially as you get up towards the higher frets.
Great again, Rich, thanks!! As you have played it live, how would you rate the bridge sound (clean) in terms of 'shrillness'? Also compared to the mini HB version of this model. Cheers from Switzerland!
Thanks a lot! I don't think it's too shrill at all. I do like a lot of top end in my sound, though ;) The same with the mini humbuckers - those are even a little bit fuller and beefier than these P90s. Both are fantastic choices, I think! Cheers and rock on :)
Hi! Great review with some good advice on other brands at the end, thanks! I’m a crap player, cowboy chords/pentatonic shenanigans. Had few Harley B’s over the years, the latest is the HB DC-Junior which is not too heavy for me as I’m disabled. I have been looking to get a budget SC Les Paul style, most Harley Benton’s are out of stock these days, so been looking at the Vintage v100’s. The Cherry with mini humbuckers as you have mentioned. Regarding weight, is there a particular V100 model with more weight relief than others? Or are they all more or less the same? Best regards, Cer.
Hey Cer, thanks a lot! Really glad you enjoyed the vid. Hey, we're in the same boat - I will never be a virtuoso either, but I've always been all about playing chords and riffs than solos and shredding. There's room for players like us too ;) The V100 with the mini humbuckers is probably the coolest Vintage I've played in the past few years... there's magic in those pickups! It was not a light guitar, though - Vintage are actually really good at doing the 'correct Les Paul weight' thing, which means they're all in the same ballpark as this one (around 3.5 kgs or so, or 8.5-9 lbs.). And in my experience, those which aren't are heavier, rather than lighter! What's your weight limit for this? Let me know and I'll wrack my brains as to whether there's anything else I've played I could recommend. Sadly, though, the lighter guitars are all more expensive jobs these days, as woods are getting scarcer and therefore more pricey. The one guitar I bought last year was a PJD St. John Standard, which weighs 2.7 kg/just under 6 lbs.! (It's one I got for a video on the channel and just couldn't resist buying afterwards.) I love light guitars too, although this one retails at well over €1000. One other outside option: ever heard of the Harley Benton Aeolus? I had one of those on loan for a video. It's a 335/339 type but has amazing specs and does the Les Paul thing and a whole lot more. The one I had was 3.46 kg / 7 lbs. 10 and it's probably the best HB I've ever played. As it's semi-hollow I guess most of them are on the lighter side. Here's my vid on that one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3QW6xASHxsI.html Hope this helps a bit!
@@RichWordsMusic Thanks for your reply mate! I have a Harley Benton DC Junior @ 6.5lbs and a Harley Benton SG 7 ¾ lbs. The Junior is amazing and so lightweight and I can handle the SG no problem. I am in love with the Les Paul fingerboard, especially the darker the wood, and the trapezoid inlays are a must! Thin Lizzy fan, so that whole LP image Gorham ,Robertson & Moore! 😊 I’ve been lucky with Harley Bentons, but have read that the QC isn’t always reliable on some of the Single cut models, although their high end SC’s seem to have weight relief. But they only have B stocks on their website. I can’t justify the Epiphone prices, but Vintage seems to fall in to a category I’m comfortable with. I could probably manage an 8 pounder, I think a 10lbs guitar for me is too heavy though. But I may pull the trigger at some point this year if the craving gets too much to bear! Thanks again for the suggestions! 😊
Maybe you could do what Ive done, took a secondhand epi sg special with humbuckers, took the bridge pickup out and put in an epi p90 I got on e bay for 20quid. Currently just wired as an lp junior, the selector switch taken off😂 so its got a hole left in it. Lighter guitar and it would get ligher if I took the disconnected neck humbucker out but that would be fugly.
@@RichWordsMusic I had a talk to 1 muso some years back that had 2 of the higher end Vintages, a LP type & an SG type, & at THAT time he had both the same Gibson models, & he told me the Vintage copies were BETTER instruments than their inspiration! I mean WT actual F?
