Some info on the little motor.
The Kohler K91 is a 145 cc (8.86 cu·in) single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine from K-series, manufactured by Kohler Co.
The Kohler K91 engine has an L-head (side valve) design and a horizontal PTO shaft. This engine can be equipped with Kohler or Walbro carburetor and magneto, battery, or breakerless ignition systems. The K91 engine used paper air cleaner (oiled foam pre-cleaner was available as an option).
The cylinder bore is 60.33 mm (2.38 in) and the piston stroke is 50.80 mm (2 in). This engine produced 4.1 PS (3.0 kW; 4.0 HP) at 4,000 rpm of horsepower.

Kohler makes a great little motor. I think that should be a 1973? Looking forward to see the completed restoration. Cheers!

@joekelley1734

My guess would be 50s or 60s as it has the pulley you wrap a rope around to start it. Most engines in the 70s had recoil (rewind) start.

When I saw that big puller on that pulley I wondered why you didn’t heat up the pulley to give it a chance to move. Now she rests in pieces :( it’s always sad when that happens
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration 2 года назад
I did heat it up, I just didn't show it. That pulley was on there for good.

Are these engines worth restoring? What about the valve seats around the face of the valve, does the cast iron have any hardened valve seat inserts like they have on the aluminum engines? The valve seats were notoriously bad in the 1950's V8 engines made in America. Is the Kohler K91 as good as modern engines? It sure looks nice. I found one in the woods, but I'm not sure if I will be able to get it to turn over, although it has the carburetor and air cleaner on it, and the muffler, and spark plug, so it hasn't exactly been exposed to directly water but it has been sitting for about 30 years.

Great job .Congr. You was used flame at 03:00 for bolts remove.Why use this flame for remove ? Are all older bolds remove using flame ? or related with bolds material?
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration 2 года назад
The problem with a rusted bolt is that the spaces between the threads get clogged with minerals and oxidized metal. Metal expands slightly when heated, so warming up the nut a bit makes it ever-so-slightly larger, loosening the hold enough that it will be able to break free. Likewise, do you heat the bolt or nut? Yes,heating the nut is the preferred method - get in there fast with a lot of heat and the nut will expand away from the bolt,undo the bolt before the heat has a chance to transfer and expand that. Makes your spanners a nice blue. If you can only get at the bolt,heating is just one of the things to try.
@Yorumcu63
@Yorumcu63 2 года назад
@@AJRestoration .I know when heating metals larger but I don't think ,nut is more nearly to heat and more large and more easy remove (nut and screw are same materials and large rate same ) Thank you for detail reply .I am member to your channel (sorry for my bad english )
