The piece on the FLAIR that "assists" the corkscrew works as follows . . . you work the corkscrew into the bottle you wish to open. Then, you place the first "inset" on the 'assist' tool at the lip of the bottle, which allows you more leverage in pulling the cork.
I bought a pulse with original leather belt case for $30 at a garage sale 20 years ago. Was like brand new. I'm still using it to this day with excellent performance. I never knew about the top attachment for it! Thanks for that piece of information!
Nice overview of these older multi tools - thanks! Love my Leatherman tools. Of those you discussed, I only have the SideClip - carried it today, in fact.
Great job I still have my LEATHERMAN TOOL (PST) I bought in 1989 with leather sheath. The others I bought 0896 MICRA , 0995 SUPER TOOL, 1297 SIDECLIP, 1006 CORE, 0109 BLAST, 1213 SuperTool 300. The Bigger Bro to the PULSE is the 0102 SuperTool 200 .
I still have my Leatherman Crunch with leather sheath, it's been carried very little and not used at all. I ended up putting it away in the safe and getting an original Super Tool which I like a lot better. I wanna say '96 or '97 vintage.
I first Leatherman was the Leatherman pulse then after that I had the the wingman the OTH the the rebar. Super tool 300 chrome model and blackout thank you Tim Leatherman for making your finest tools. Here’s to the future.
Any video discussing classic Leatherman tools gets an automatic thumbs-up from me! To answer your last question: I EDC the OG Supertool (when wearing pants) or the Rebar (when wearing shorts). The PST goes with me on special occasions, or if I just miss carrying it (like right now). I’ve got several of the newer tools (Wave, Charge, Charge TTi, Signal) but I really connect with and appreciate the classics. I don’t know if Leatherman planned this, but the bit adapter that is meant for the Rebar & ST300 also fits securely on the medium flat driver of the Supertool and PST.
I have an old version of the "attachment driver" circa 1980, It in a leather hard pouch like the oringinal tool but was 2.5 deep 1.25 square which allows you carry the longer drivers along with the normal ones and lots of room if you just want to throw in extra items. With the small vice grips I could take apart just just about anything. I carried these for 20 years till buying the Surge (unfortunately before the replaceable cutters) . nice collectiion.
