Vintage Marantz vs Kenwood 

As a tech and reseller of Marantz ,i and many fellow tech will not touch anything under the 2230. It has to do with the quality of design. The 2230,2245,2270 are all the same basic design. But sound quality is fantastic. Most of the idea about quality is wattage. You do not need published wattage to get a great amp or reciever.

Right you are about that, upper-tier Kenwoods from the 5000 series up were much much more better built using premium materials. But they were expensive as well.

When I log onto ebay and type in "vintage electronics" more often than not a business with the name "Vintage Electronics" appears before anyone else. I ask if this is you? If it is you my question would not really make sense,that question is. How do I deal with the high price of vintage electronics? I like many things about vintage electronics, that silver front plate is awesome and they offer some very nice two channel specs. If I want to run HDMI equipment or perhaps add a subwoffer things are not so nice. In fact I am finding that mixing vintage audio and my computer as a source to be something like the old "square peg in a round hole". I have read some articles about adding a sub to a two channel system but I am not pleased. I did try an experiment and added a discrete DAC and a Rockford/Fosgate amp( automotive gear) with the possibility of a sub,this did work out nice. I run my amp on a DC power supply (dry battery) so no issues there. I get the sound I like but I have had to dial back my appearance requirements. Most important is the sound,well for me it is.

what about ERRES (philips) for 1970-80s? how was the quality of those?

im looking to buy one of these receivers online but my concern is how do you handle shipping? shipping heavy delicate electronics in my experience people don't give a shit and just toss shit around. What methods do you use to avoid this problem?

There is something not right with the kenwood knob which is very unusual.I have both the brands and the Marantz is far better than Kenwood on Sound quality. Marantz very seldom had issues apart from the potentiometers and the input outout connectors.

Of course, Marantz is better. But Kenwood does it's bests at more affordable prices.

You are comparing apples with oranges. The Marantz is clearly superior. It was also more expensive in its time.

Marantz may look & have the deepest sound. But they can be very sensitive come repair time. Lights. on/off buttons + left or right channels have a tendency to short out. Vintage Sansui Receivers are well made and can take a hell of a lot of abuse. But still Marantz sounds a tad better. I've never experimented with either Pioneer nor Kenwood products. A little voice inside me tells me to avoid these brands.

I had to quit watching, glad its not my Marantz he's beating up.

Kenwood kr9050. King of receivers. You will throw all of your marantz to the garbage after experiencing a 9050

Europeans use metric stuff, which isn't as good as American stuff. This goes for everything. Even European pizza is metric. Coke, too.
