Dreading the repair or the classification as vintage? Some devices are coming up or past 20 years old now. That's almost antique.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Dreading the classification. I'm kidding of course, but it's one of the first classes of devices which i remember being brand spankin' new, almost revolutionary, and which have now became pretty much obsolete. Funny feeling ;)

@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 3 года назад
@Arkadiusz 11 People still use their phones as de facto mp3 players, and you can still buy high fidelity mp3 players that play lossless codecs like flac or alac, so no, mp3 players aren't obsolete.

We have a load of 'vintage' digital cameras (including the three Apple 'QuickTake' models laying about and an even creaking older 'analog' (35mm) camera from a country that no longer exists (German Democratic Republic).

Yeah, should the word "vintage" and the term "MP3" appear in the same sentence? Technology just races away from us mere mortals! Well done 12Voltvids for saving another one.

@@markmiwurdz202 You know you are old when internet age tech is called vintage. Just contemplate the first Apple Ipod. It looks like an ancient alien device now, before capacitive high-res color lcd's. Just astonishing how fast handheld computers evolved

I had one of these made by iriver, one of the best little players I ever had. It takes one AA battery and still works. It has a headphone jack plus an input jack to record mp3 audio.

I remember back in university i was too poor to afford both a usb drive and an mp3 player. So I bought a usb mp3 player. After about a year the battery died so I soldered on a phone battery. Stuck it with glue on the back of the player and I had about two weeks non stop music. It looked kinda ratty, but I was happy with it.

I had a device called a "Duocette" which was a tape shaped mp3 player you could put in a tape deck and it would play through a magnetic head that contacted the tape player read head. It also functioned as a portable player. It only had a 64Mb capacity!

Transcend still makes them, I have some, Transcend, LG, and one no name brand one that runs off a AA cell. Just need to find a old disposable ecigarette, and you get the small pouch cell for free, to use with the original battery protection board off the battery. You could even take one off pretty much any small device that will fit there and it will work.

I have a collection of them. Only 3 have ever failed. My best one is a 1gb Coby player. A recent one I like is a white RCA branded player with a microSD card slot. No need for special software, replaceable single AAA battery, USB drag n drop file copy... So much better than anything else available. I have 5 or 6 various models. I bought a couple Craig models for my nieces and they met with rough use. 😢 I never bought anything with a non replaceable "rechargable" battery. The dumbest design for these things was one where the player software was in the flash memory instead of a ROM chip. The flash memory went bad and it stopped working. Sent it in, got a replacement of the same model but a bug in the Lock feature killed it again. It became a fancy thumb drive. I eventually bricked it and threw it away.

We have a bag full of old Rio MP3 players - 3 Rio 500s, a 600 and defunct 800 along with several 'backpacks' for the 600 and 800 that extended memory up to a whopping 256 megabytes. Got some use out of them on car trips but they've long since been put away...

I happen to have a Eclipse T180BL 4GB MP3 player from 2012, it has a same problem as yours and the original battery is dead and won't turn on. The awkward thing is, when you plug the MP3 player in, it will turn on and play the audio but will not charge the battery. And so I went ahead and replace the battery and it works just fine without any issues though it will turn off when they are down to low voltage. Even though it looks like a iPod Nano and I don't know that the Apples company did sue against Eclipse MP3 player company for cloning the design of the MP3 player including the iPod Nano, and all I know, it has a clone version of the iPod Nano with the LCD touchscreen on the device. Now, the vintage one. I happen to have a Bath and Body Works 256MB MP3 player from 2007, and has a original soundtrack from Bath and Body Works like it is from Sammy Dee, et cetera et cetera, it has a nice instrumental music and one has a lyrics in it. I happen to copy the soundtrack from the Bath and Body Works 256MB MP3 player to my PC and burn to CD-R and plays very clean. The problem about the performance of the Bath and Body Works 256MB MP3 player from 2007, the audio has a stereo in it but the quality of the playback, it didn't matter what you have any soundtrack that has a high quality audio for where you happen to have a MP3 player file that you copy from the CD and so on and so forth, the playback performance has some unusual slightly low quality to sound like it has about between 80kb/s to 100kb/s during the playback on the MP3 player and you can't change the audio quality or change the graphic equalizer from the MP3 player. And back then, you can use a simple AAA battery to the MP3 player but it is recommended to use a alkaline battery or the rechargeable battery, if you use the heavy duty AAA battery while playing the soundtrack from MP3 player, it will not last long or it will not work for the MP3 player. I don't know that you heard that Microsoft produce the MP3 player what they called a Zune (Zuné) originally designed by Toshiba and produce it to the market. It was a close to be a iPod and has an unusual looks, though Zune was a failure at the marketplace, and by that time Microsoft discontinued Zune from 2010's.

Check the lithium cell voltage before its internal chip. Charging the cell back up to 3.5v normally resets the chip and gets them taking charge again.

I know this video is a year old so hopefully you’ll see this. I have a no-name mp3 256mb from 2006ish that was given out at a company picnic with the company name on and is currently dead. I just cut the battery wires plugged it in and it turned on..But the display is so dim I can hardly make out the display options in a dark room. Is there a way to fix that? if I need to replace the display. I don’t know the manufacturer or model I would imagine ordering a replacement would be hard without that info. Anyway thanks for the video and the glimmer of hope.

I had a Jens of Sweeden MP-300 256MB myself back in the days, it was powered by a single double A battery, so no problems for the future with that one, still got it somewhere. I did hack it by putting a dll file on it that did enable the FM transmitter in it, it was a nice player in those days. I found it in the digital museum, time flies. Well, fit a 18650 lithium battery and holder? :) Then you can replace it quickly.. but it might be a little if not to say waaay too big that battery.. but nice batteries. The battery you had is perhaps the same as in the Nitecore tube flashlight, non removeable one. I did a quick search on ebay and found a battery that might fit, seems pretty similar, size possibly smaller than what you can fit in there, but did cost 2 USD, same storage of power. www.ebay.com/itm/254671684313?hash=item3b4b9d82d9%3Ag%3AWNkAAOSwbVJfI-B-&LH_BIN=1 There likely is alot of sizes on those batteries, it is more of them i guess if searching, tried to search on your number of what i think the number is, but found nothing.
