Have you ever wanted to see a former NASCAR race car be built for ACTUAL racing with professional guidance and not just someone doing it clickbait shenanigans? This is the place for you! I am building this car to go short track racing in Grand National Super Series! This car is a 2004 Ronnie Hopkins chassis used by Joe Gibbs Racing from 04-07. It was driven by Bobby Labonte, Aric Almirola, Joey Logano (who won Busch East title in 07 with it), and Jeff Anton.
In this video tackle the dry sump oil lines and other plumbing needed on the car. I also change the connectors on the Dodge R5P7 distributor to connect to the existing MSD ignition system in preparation for the very first startup of the engine in this car! (spoiler alert: IT RUNS!)

@@Stapleton42 You certainly know well about appreciating those that assist, help, guide, instruct, teach thus for Your benefit, development too 🙂 Clearly Your parents raised You all with these basic proper attributes, along with Logan's family too. Mitchell, within this video in which You mentioned about E-85, ethanol fuel and affects upon specific fuel system components, though not properly described, the selection of within every component, aspect are vital certainly. Thus, certainly the NASCAR engines were running already [true] E-85, 85% ethanol, along with Fuel Injection systems with electronic control. Thus, afterwards when You began to attempt the first start of the engine, You mentioned fuel priming, which is also common for Fuel Injection with electric or mechanical fuel pumps.. Then You stated about fuel in the carbuerator, 'bowls' [fuel bowls]. Thus, it seemed that You were confused. However within the video at the ending sectioin just prior to and after starting, there seems to be a carbuerator on the op of the intake manifold, to my surprise. Did You remove or disable the EFI system, replace it with a carbuerator, or did You receive the engine in this manner ? If You replaced the EFI with a carbuerator why would any sensible person do this ? is this for racing use, temporary use ? All The Best. Sincerely

I am very happy for you and your crew. It is a lot to do when you are getting a car ready to start for the first time after a major repair. The time, money, physical labor and mental fatigue all combine to make your stomach churn. But the excitement hearing it fire off that first time is a special feeling. No need for words Mitch! That expression on your face says it all. That "Eureka!" moment. So bask in all that glory and that sense of accomplishment of the long hours you have put into that racecar! Ya deserve it! ...and how fitting is for me to come across this video today after I just put in 2 days worth of work tearing down my restoration project (GTA Trans Am) that I'm working on right now. I'm about at the halfway point. I can relate to all what you have been going through: the hackery you see, the perfection that you want when you're building your car, and the "argh!" I gotta make this work somehow moments... But in the end it's going to be sooo worth it once you are behind that wheel that only car guys like us, understand! Keep up the great videos! You remind me so much of my father ! One of the best mechanics in Miami for years when he was younger. From a D8H Cat Bulldozer to a watch, he could fix anything. And of course, "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right"! He helped all the racers and motor guys in Miami at a place called H.C. Wilcox Machinee Shop on NW27 Ave and the Miami River. 😂He taught everyone. Dad, Banjo Mathews, Eddie, Bobby and Donnie and many more guys that would be famous. Again, you all have the good type of OCD. Like the old saying goes, Luck is where preperation meets oportunity. And oh yeah, a Mopar motor in a Chevrolet makes plenty of sense to me. Bobby used to set up all different makes of cars with a GM front suspension. He had his reasons, and they worked 85 times. Good stuff guys, sounds great. Good luck with you're racing.

Mitchell , your 100 percent correct ; that when you build out your own car , you “know” it and all its characteristics, quirks, strengths, and how to improve it . Many of the younger drivers coming up today only know simulators and couldn’t tell you how to fabricate a race car , which leads to very poor car chief / driver communications and eventually failure . We use to take all winter to build from the ground up our dirt and later asphalt modifieds. We even built 90 percent of our suspension parts , frame , cage ….. gussets, everything, and for sure we knew our cars and what they could do ! It’s almost a lost skill , keep it in your toolbox and you will always be one step ahead of those who don’t learn all the ins and outs of fabrication. Really enjoying the videos , they are just fine the way they are !

Dzus (zoos) If you are having al welding prob's remember.....clean,clean,clean. I used to clean all weld areas with a new, dry, scotchbrite pad. when I stated doing that, a lot of my al welding issues went away.

Also for angles on tubing and pipe, the local dude that fabricates a lot of the cages made himself a jig and a hydraulic tubing notcher . Had a foot pump, to pump the hydraulic jack, while he held the tubes. He also made a bender similarly. It cut the tubes at perfect angles and notched sides so the tubes would line up perfectly and hug each other, for clean, strong welds. Those held up and saved lots of folks life and limb, mine and his included. There are probably some for purchase, but this was back before amazon and ebay was much of a.thing.

This is similar going from the v carburetor to the regular carb on an 83 Ltd with all them vacuum lines.i found some of the lines in wrong places and I wondered how it ran & didn't blow up.i figured it out looking at vacuum diagrams in books and got good acceleration and idle after all of that.finding a fuel tank was a challenge too.

For your valve cover T: swap the valve covers left to right. That pits the fittings in the back. Then you can run a single hose under the intake and a simple inline bulkhead T fitting. Use a line clamp to hold the T to the valley plate.

Back when i was 16 or so I wrapped a header in shorts, a t shirt and no gloves. A week later i had the courage to wrap the 2nd header.... With 2 long sleeves, jeans and two pairs of rubber gloves 😂 I will NEVER wrap anything in fiberglass ever again

You can wrap the metal braided hoses in painters tape then cut through the tape and the metal fibers won't fly everywhere.

So for the stainless braided line i have to make them at my work for air compressor discharge lines on semi trucks and and the best thing I found is using 3/4" wide anti tamper tape which basically has strings inside it and when you cut it acutually holds the wire from fraying from the heat vs using electrical tape

Titanium / "lava rock" header wrap, esp a high quality brand, is 90% less itchy. I will never go back to fiberglass wrap after using a high quality product. Makes a world of a difference.

Yes to them named for the last name of the inventor. A name of German origin even if the individual doesn't ID as a German. I was just putting it in context of a way Mitchell might have heard it. Not unlike someone having the last name of English
