This is the first of what I hope will a series of videos showing off my vintage cameras! In this video I introduce you to my two Zenit Russian (U.S.S.R.) cameras (circa 1960-1970) which are copies of East German Pentax (Japanese brand origin), including lots of lenses and accessories! Get a basic understanding of a SLR (Single Lens Reflex) mirror camera, 35mm film loading and transport... and a lot more material to cover in future videos!

Good memories for me. The Zenith E was my first SLR. It was a big jump from a Solida II. Not having to carry a separate light meter was great. I still have a few film cameras. I miss those days. Develop and printing your own stuff was very satisfying. Digital is great don't get me wrong but there was something more satisfying with film. Bit like a steam engine v modern day trains I suppose. Great video.

Thanks for watching. I have a few other cameras I'd like to feature, including a Kodak Retina IIIC which is quite a piece of vintage kit! For the younger folk who never held a manual film camera I hope to explain how we manually needed to dial them in to the correct settings for each particular shot, balance various parameters depending on what we were looking to prioritize. Some of that "art" seems to have been forgotten with digital and now phone cameras. Most now take so many photos and just hope one is good and throw out the rest. That wasn't so easy with film due to not only cost but not even seeing the result until AFTER you develop it!

I have my late fathers Retina 1a. I might put a film in it one day. It is 35mm. I still have a light meter. Will be interested to see the Retina Iii.
