We have a tree with 55 original 1950's striped Shiney Brites along with 100 other orig 50's glass balls, including pine cones, SB printed balls, 1930's Chianti bottles and Pre or just post WWII German and eastern Europe indentation balls. All these were added to our family tree over a 30 year buying period starting in the 1930's. We do, however, have at least fifteen items which have been in my family from the late 1800's to the early 1920's which have shown up in family photos from 1922 back...
I love your addiction! I'm hooked on anything vintage Christmas. I'll be getting a mini silver tinsel tree this year! I have my lighted ceramic tree on now lol and it's only July. I've been watching tons of Christmas videos, songs, looking at Christmas in July on QVC. I have some old Shiny Brite ornaments from my dad's old collection. I'd love to collect and buy more but money isn't rampant this year.
Dallas Christmas Street... loved your video with perfect ensemble of vintage ornaments, background green cloth and whimsical Christmas tunes i'd not heard before enjoying your video. Thank you for the joy and memories as my folks had many of these ornaments hung every year of my childhood.
Oh I love your collection!! Vintage Christmas just makes me so happy! I will have to go watch this video again, your collection is amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing with us! :) Sue
Christopher Radko makes somewhat affordable reproductions of many of the Shiny Brite designs. Some Eastern European countries (Poland, Romania, Germany) still manufacture, but probably not as much on the mass produced level. The quality tends to be much higher ($) and it's tough to find them in the US outside of high end stores. I think part of the charm of the older sets are the slapdash paint jobs and stencilling that were done to churn them out. I'm no expert, though. :)
That was an impressive collection! The indents and pine cones were my favorites. I'd love to get my hands on some vintage German-made hand-blown glass ornaments from the late 1800's. The detail on them is exquisite, but I'm sure they go for a small fortune.
Amazing collection. I am also a vintage holiday decoration collector for both Halloween and Christmas. Right now I'm on a Shiny Brite/Pyramid ornament junkie. Your ornaments is amazing. I remember a lot of those in the 70's. My folks had a lot of those ornaments. Thank you for the great video and music!!
I want to congratulate you on your collection!!!! I have a collection too they range between 1947 to today !!! Talking about Xmas decorations in July !!! LOLLL.
Very cool, do you use these to decorate or just collect? I was wondering because I use to have some like these but through the years they all got broke.
Just the Shiny Brites alone would've made for an amazing collection! There was a set of plum-colored SB's in there that really caught my eye! Keep building it up! Any chances you'll post a recent video with your collection updated to include anything you acquired since this video was made?
No, Christmas tree ornament bulbs aren't the same. We all had them on our trees back in the day but now they are seen as nostalgic and they hold a vintage artwork quality because we can't get them anymore. Here's why. These bulbs and ornaments were made of a thin glass which were delicate and easily breakable. This caused finger cuts and bad foot cuts if stepped on without shoes on. The chromium colored plating contained lead and other chemical toxins which caused infections in cuts making them irritated and very itchy for days requiring medical attention. Over some time their production was stopped! Safety comes first but they were still the nicest thing os your tree. Too bad!
+Christmasmemories1 Thanks! I found the GLOW facebook page last year. My sister and I are members! I've looked through your videos over the years. Wonderful collection!
I forgot to ask you....if I may, :) today I purchased a box of vintage stencil ornaments that has "Made in the USA" on the cap, but no mention of Shiny Brite, the bell, the candles, the Merry Christmas stencil sure looks exactly like Shiny Brite! Are they copies or actually Shiny Brite? I know, without seeing them it's hard to say. I was just curious if you knew if perhaps Shiny Brite did indeed make these? Thank you for any info you can give me, sincerely, Sue
I gotta ask...did you manage to find some boxed ornaments this year? :) I think you collecting vintage Christmas is wonderful!! Thanks for your videos!! Sue
Sue7777000 No, I haven’t found boxed ornaments in a few years. A couple of years ago I moved to a different state. I could find boxed ornaments at the thrift shops all the time in my old town, but just don’t run across them where I’m at now. I think the vintage Christmas is getting intercepted by workers and never make it out to the selling floor.
I see that Shiny Brite was a big name in ornaments back in the day. Do they still exist today, or did they outsource manufacturing to China like damn near everyone else does?
Christopher Radko reintroduced the Shiny Brite name a dozen years ago or so and to this day the company continues to make reproduction ornaments similar to the original designs.
I've seen the newer Shiny Brites under the CR banner, and they'e OK, but I'm set on the vintage stuff. To me anyway, the older ornaments have more character to them than the newer ones.
Hello Dallas Street. I was trying to figure out how to message you directly, but I don't see a way. Do you know if there is in fact a way? Thanks.. Dan
Oh My what gorgeous ornaments!!! I remember my parents having many of the same ones. My brother and I helped decorate the tree with them when we were little. This brings back such wonderful Christmas memories of when I was a child. Thank you!!!
