I had the three panel lights blown out. I replaced them with 8 volt 300ma wedge style lamps. Pull the boots back, unsolder the old burnt flashlight bulb looking lamps. The wedge lamps have steel leads to insert in a wedge type socket. They can be tricky to solder the copper wire leads to the steel leads, but it can be done. Tin the wire lead good, loop it around the wedge lamp steel lead with some slight crimping, and solder the wire lead to itself. Slide the boot back over the bulb. They stick out a little further than the old lamps, but it doesn't matter... It worked for me.
____Maybe (just, maybe) comparing the sound with the Marantz shall not be fair. ____You have cleaned the Kenwood, but, have you recapped it ??? ____A recap, in a 40+ years old amplifier, makes a HUGE difference in the sound. ___Do you agree with me, or am I wrong?
shair00 I didn't replace the bulbs of this receiver. I just started this hobby when I had this receiver and didn't came up with the idea I got later hahah was not that smart with lamps in that period. But most kenwoods have the voltage of the lamps written om the plastic bulb holders so it should be easy. Remember that when you need for example a 2.4w lamp(8v-0.3A) you can also use for example a 12v 0.2A what also make 2.4W. You can even have 10% difference, so when the w of a bulb is 2.2w ore 2.6w is also good. But you probably know this already.
