The Time is Now!! I’ve been looking forward for an opportunity to do a balance staff replacement instructional video. Keep in mind that not all balance staff replacement methods are done in this exact way. Thanks for watching! #rolex #howto #watchmaking

There are many channels that have "servicing and cleaning" a movement. But this repair was just amazing.

Thanks, Fabio. I was riveted through the entire hour (no pun intended). I picked up some awesome tips, as always. Having destroyed more than my share of balance springs, I can assure you I was on the edge of my recliner the entire time. You may be the Alfred Hitchcock of watchmaking videos! Please keep them coming, you are very much appreciated.

Great video! I'm a total amateur watchmaker (and also RU-vidr). I keep looking for answers about specific repairs on RU-vid and your channel keeps coming up! So thanks for making such relevant videos! When I finally attempt my own balance staff repair I'll credit you and provide a link back to this video.

Thanks 🙏 I got a lot of feed back from this on Facebook. And rightfully so. This is a very specific Rolex method. Using the Horia tool to break the balance out is very risky with other brands. It works well with Rolex because the steel of the staff is so brittle and the balance rim is so strong and flexible. Also marking the position of the roller and hairspring stud is a good reference but, if the parts are in the wrong place to begin with than it’s good to know how to orient the wheel without any outside reference. I’ve been meaning to make a balance staff video with a different watch just need to find another brand of watch with broken balance staff.

I'm curious, why you mentioned watch technician, not many people would say that, love to know your thoughts and opinion on that.
@Timesradical
@Timesradical Год назад
@@watchmakerspecial516 I use the term “Technician” as well interchangeably with “watchmaker” my reasoning behind that is because, although I consider myself a watchmaker from graduating a watchmaking school where we learned to manufacture and create parts for watches the job we do at a service repair shop is more like replacing parts and adjusting. So sometimes it feel more appropriate to use the term technician the watchmaker because we’re not actually making anything we’re just repairing, replacing, refinishing and adjusting. Not saying that it’s easier both aspects of manufacturing the watch and doing service maintenance is very incredibly involved. As I’m sure you already know. Cheers! and thanks for continuing the dialogue.

It’s hard to assess without seeing the watch. If the movement is fully serviced and your trying to slow down the watch correctly with the micro Stella screws which are located on the inside of the balance wheel then just keep screwing them outwards. This should work assuming everything is cleaned piled and double checked correctly. But, if this is not slowing down the watch there is probably something overlooked that is causing the problem. The movement must be checked methodically as it is disassembled. Are you serving the movement yourself or just adjusting the timing?
