My Retro Watches Mike, I’ve got a question for you. Is there more than one way to attach a strap? I’m making a leather watch strap for a friend and need to determine the best way to create the attachment point. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

PRIMITIVE LEATHERWORKS sorry Rich didn’t see this post! They all attach by a small spring bar. All bracelets or straps will have a hole in the end to accommodate the bar. Bars can be different thicknesses 1mm. 1.3, 1.5 etc. Can’t quite remember the thickest

Thanks Mike. I was able to make him a strap that tucks over the pin and under the watch. Hopefully it works for him. 👍🏻 I barely saw the reply myself. 🍻 cheers

Hey man, Love your videos or least this series thus far....... (moving to part 3 after this) ... and sincerely admire & more importantly UNDERSTAND your passion "big league" for not only collecting but mostly fixing them and the joy it brings as a hobby and or business or both, these things when done right are actual perpetual motion machines - sorta - in a way, no?... I want to learn so much more and have to, that's for sure... HEY.... are you Aussie or British - if you do not mind me asking? ...I want to learn how to fix these and especially identify what is real parts and what replaced and what is acceptable...(or some case just as good or near OEM parts and what is JUNK) ....replaced parts and what is intentionally removed too use in a more pricey situation / watch - if that makes sense as well as a decent starters toolkit FOR / with these things as well as especially identifying the watch bands that will fit each to be able to change them at will or order them for a particular watch at will 'rather... Anyways, please keep these awesome videos coming and hope you have time to read my comment / compliments / motivation and admiration of your "passion" in not only wearing but fixing these... I really loved the one watch you thought was an "acquired taste" sent from the Philippines with the unusual shape as some do HAVE and it was teal-ish in color - the parts around the dial at least, loved it, absolutely gorgeous and what a job fixing it, do I need pricey tools to start to polish and or brush my orient(s) 3-***'s from the early 70's and SEIKO 5's as well as how does one pick the BEST glass or acrylic or any other type of cover when indeed of replacement and is a typical shape, what is the top of the line and can all of them take the bubble glass that protrudes out a bit as I like so much... Hey, I just started to get into this and would like honest opinions, nothing wrong with telling me TRUTHS so I can learn whether it hurts or not as I have thick skin so can you tell me how I have done with the last two watches I purchased, one is your flavor as in SEiKO 5 however with many parts replaced I think however I happen to like the look of the parts replaced with the copper dial and the pink-ish but still very much "manly imo" watch... very unique, reminds me of the copper in the middle of dial and I am an electrician whom also loves the 50's era even though I was born in 1980 so that pink-ish color reminds me of the old kitchens of the 50/60's era? ...at least in America! ... I wish there was a way for us to water proof them or least make them SHOWER-PROOF!!! ....Maybe somewhere out here on the internet there is.... Hey on MY orient since just ordered shall I ask him to put any type of protruding or special glass or acrylic in your opinion and to change the band beings what I said above with my wrist being just about RighT for this one, so it seems?.... I suppose they have larger just the next size up of these same bands laying around? What band would you link me to and put on the Orient if she was YOURS? .... If you send me one, I will go with it and buy it to swap it out, I like big bands that get as wide as watch and do not have to be metal although red leather is always nice for this one I suppose or anything really you feel suits it in larger size that can be tucked away as if I am over that "up to an 8" then it is just barely so unsure what size that would even be, thanks so much for your time, getting back to your video(s) now and praying or hoping rather that you see this SOON before he ships and yoU have time to reply, thanks again so much either way and again - keep these great vidz coming man, Stephen....

I REALLY like 👍 your Seiko watch collection. I don’t know if ya wear these for certain occasions (such as eating out, or a wedding 💒, for example). I bet it took some time acquiring all these watches. They’re probably all automatics, or spring wound. About every one ☝️ of these has a date, or day/date feature, and very nice dials. Your friend, Jeff.

5:40 The 6309-6200 is a really nice looking watch and at 9:00 the 6119-5450 is kinda cool! The last few in the video were all very nice watches as well. I particularly like the expanding bracelet one, it looks a bit like the analogue version of the space-age looking Pulsar LED digital watch of the time.

Great collection and about 12 years ago I also went nuts on eBay and got about 40 Seiko watches and got like 2 to 3 a week for about 6 months. You would easily find or be able to get them for less than $50 US back then and had many of the ones you have. I lost many when o had to moved about 9 years ago. Seiko and Citizen made beautiful watches in this period and since this retro bond look has come back, these watches are great to collect or just have a few. Why pay thousands on other prestigious brands when these are a fraction and well made and many held up over 40 years. Glad you are able to find new crystals bc here in the USA and I’m sure other countries no longer have many old style watch and repair shops. But hopefully this art form of appreciating old watches will make a come back and ppl. will start owning shops that repair and sell them used and restored, like they are doing with vintage hi fi equipment. Glad to see more ppl. like yourself have a passion for these old Seikos bc I’m tired of ppl. not understanding me and say stuff like you’re buying another watch and don’t you think you have enough? NO I Don’t and never enough! Haha!

Also joe that I just got back into finding vintage watches just from the other day and looking on eBay, I’ve notice many of the vintage watch dealer are from India. But they seem to have replaced the faces with a after market bc they are too perfect and the logo didn’t look right. So I’m going to stay away from ppl. selling from India and the Philippines bc I dint think they are original and some suspect counterfeit. Also I try to look for ones with a bit of age and raised markers and logo, which I noticed the fakes seem to be all flat for cheaper mass making of them.
@jacknjill3000
@jacknjill3000 2 года назад
Also, are you still buying new old watches or now very selective? I also tend to buy the same style watches in different colors bc I love the design so much. Especially if it’s a model that doesn’t come up for sale often.
@jacknjill3000
@jacknjill3000 2 года назад
Watching this video of your collection makes me know which ones I have or had are the harder ones to get. And also which ones I still need. Many of these watches are so stunning, when you come across them, you’re instantly hit with it’s beauty. The Japanese had super high standards even back then and it’s amazing. I now wish I still had many of those watches you have bc 10 years ago, not many were into them and you could find cheap and there were plenty and why I was binge buying bc it was like after buying one, you see several more. I did buy some from India bc of the price and 10 years ago, I thought they were selling the original watch and I wouldn’t even know how to open one.

Loving part 2! I actually found a 7005-7080 on eBay. It was gold and had a black dial. Very bad condition. I pulled it apart and cleaned up the case and fitted a new crystal. In the sunlight the black dial gave an amazing sunburst emerald green colour.

There is a massive fan base for Seiko out there, you are on to a winner picking Seiko. The older ones are my favourites. I have a 7009 8210 which is pretty accurate when I wear it all the time. Acrylic chrystal which I like over the Hardlex scratch magnets. I prefer rotating my vintage handwinder watches from Sea-gull and Raketa. I have a couple of new Seikos and I am not impressed. I have a snxg47k1 with the 7S26C movement and another Seiko with the 4r movement. Accuracy is all over the place. My Sea-gull automatic flying wheel retrograde day date which is accurate to within a second a day is ideal for me. I have a nice flock of Seagulls now and a rak of nice old Raketas. My oldest Soviet watch is a Kirovskie watch made in 1939 at the 1st Moscow watch factory. The price of this has more than doubled since I bought it 3 years ago.

You have a SUPERB collection of watches... Maybe the era I grew up in ..I was born in 1970 right at the start of the "Quartz crisis" ... I can't live with the accuracy of automatic movement watches...They are just not good enough...I don't want watches that gain or lose a minute every 12 days and I don't want watches that you have to set the time on if you leave them unattended for just a few days. I have one automatic watch and I won't be buying any more. They are not for me sorry. Kind regards Brian

LINK to Orient *** "Christmas Edition" ....we will call it: : www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ORIENT-AUTOMATIC-JAPAN-MENS-DAY-DATE-WATCH-432k-a217755-4/184723149614 Also, what do you think of the brand Ricoh like this or just the brand in general, they have some nice ones: www.ebay.com/itm/RICOH-R31-MECHANICAL-AUTO-VINTAGE-JAPAN-MEN-039-S-D-D-AUTHENTIC-WATCH-411-a204733-4-/184724597918?_trkparms=aid%3D1110002%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111451%26meid%3D97f764d4b51f45db875b598efe97b078%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D184717964018%26itm%3D184724597918%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedSellersOtherItemsV2WithMLRv3%26brand%3DRicoh&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=uEJQhoycJK4O0v53mxqMdJJmWjc%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc I also may get an Electric or Desil watch to have with battery if these do not work as everyday drivers as in one or two of them as will prob buy a few more all together and see about the tool kit to start repairing myself...

You might give the glass crystals a go with cerium oxide powder. I have restored some crystals that looked pretty bad(like someone dragged it along the concrete) to like new condition with a kit I got from a gent in the UK. I believe he sells on ebay if I remember correctly.

thanks, I would be interested to see that kit. I have cerium oxide, really messy stuff under a felt wheel on a dremel.

@@MyRetroWatches I just tried his website and it looks like it is no longer up. The kit was basically some dremel sanding discs of 2 different grits(400 and 600) to get the deep scratches out then 4 different cerium oxide powders from coarse to fine and a polishing cloths to use with the powders(I used cotton dremel wheels instead). It is definitely messy and I only use it only for crystals that are no longer available. Takes about 45 mins of elbow grease to get a bad one back into serviceable shape but better than leaving the scratches.

I really don’t like 👍 the camera 🎥. It shows the watches up close just fine, but your watch collection sits in back, blurred. These have very nice wristbands. Your friend, Jeff.

How can you tell an original bracelet from a replica?
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 9 месяцев назад
Don’t think there are replica bracelets for this type of seiko. I’ve used replica on my Pogue and other higher end seikos and it’s easy to spot as the seiko stamped on the clasp does not look right. For watches like this you Google image search the same reference and you will generally find other models. If they all have the same bracelet then you know it’s okay.

One issue, try showing them still, to much moving around which made very difficult to see them properly.

I'm really enjoying these watches Mike, thankyou so much for posting! I have a Seiko SQ like in your collection part 1, its a quartz too and is an oval type shape, It was my fathers watch and has layed in a box for many years, I recently picked it out and put a battery in it and it is working, but it loses time quite quickly, I can wear it for and hour and suddenly it will lose 10 minutes just like that, other times it will lose 4 minutes just like that at random, wondered if you had any ideas on what the problem could be.. Reference is 4336-5020 there's another 6 digit there too 701917 any help would be appreciated even a year of manufacture... Cheers

Kevin De Hinkelai thanks for your comment. Quartz is not my specialty so my only guess would be a power issue where the battery is losing contact or there is an issue with the quartz crystal as it is the crystal that sets the timing .

Cody Dirkz haha, indeed it’s like the tomAto tomato song. I say it both ways depending on how I feel. Just did the same with my latest aBulova video where I was corrected on that too. It’s just the way I talk here in England
