Hello and welcome to my channel. This video is all about vintage Seiko watches. This is my own ever growing personal collection of vintage Seiko. I like the retro styling Seiko put into their models back in the 1970s. I like to try to restore all the watches I buy which means that I tend to buy watches needing a service or a complete restoration. Its the working on the watches I enjoy most and the collection is almost a byproduct of my obsession of watch repair. Restoration I know is not for everyone but on models like this I really think its worth all the effort. This is part one of a two part series.
If my videos have helped or inspired you into this hobby then I would be grateful if you could support the channel. A little goes a long way.

Since my last comment I now have a third vintage watch, an excellent condition gold 9940-8010. Engraving on the back says it's a corporate gift from the Chiba Housing Supply Corp. I love all the different designs, Seiko is definitely one of those brands that seems to have a watch for every taste.

Thanx so much for sharing your collection. You have rescued a bit of history there. I was a young teen in the 70's and I do remember having a Seiko watch back then. My first watch back then was a Timex of course. Very nice collection.

A really fantastic collection.. Futuristic, wonderfull & extremely varied with many very beautiful examples.. You can see the design throughout the whole range something that shines through from the Seiko 5's to the king seiko's of the past & the grand seiko's of the present. Thank you for showing your collection. Seiko are so undervalued..

I don't know a ton about watches, but it seems like older seikos really mastered that 70's flash, without stepping over the line into obnoxious. I have a couple advans I get compliments on all the time. There is a Citizen I saw with a similar aesthetic (that'll probably be my 4th watch purchase), but (imo) the seikos pull it off more often.

Thank you for your comment Brad. I am happy to read you liked this video in particular. Part 2 is coming soon! as for sourcing bracelets I just ask and email everyone I know. use web forums to put out a parts request and my / other Facebook groups. It can take a long time, 6 months being the longest but eventually you can get lucky. I email ebay sellers allot as traders like Thewatchcollector in the Philippines does not list all of his stuff. I show them pictures of what I am looking for. This is the only way I think to just reach out to everyone and anyone. I can only wish you luck.

That’s a serious 🧐 collection, there. I hope 🤞 to hit some thrift stores 🏬, because I do find people’s great 😊 stuff there. This is another way of giving away unwanted stuff, such as a move, or if the person is deceased. I’d really like to know a few other places where to get such great 👍 watches. Even if these were mass produced at the time (but I don’t know), these are way better than today’s super mass produced watches (more so mass produced). Attention definitely went into detail with your watches. They were (and always will be) always a watch that anybody will be proud 🥹 wearing. Your friend, Jeff.

Great collection and looks like the collection I had when I got fascinated with retro looking watches that were coming out in the early 90s. So back then many were not collecting these prizes and would find on eBay for under $50. on eBay. When I get into things I go all the way and love retro things to collect. So I would find these old Seikos at flea markets and thrift store and around year 2000. I ended up with about around 30 and they were all over in various drawers got out of control bc I was also collecting the new watches that were going retro from brands like Citizen and Spoon, which I believe was made by Seiko. Oh and Seiko made these chunky square retro looking watches also. Unfortunately I ended up loosing many in storage and by theft and had many that you have with the thick faces or rims. I even had one that were really special that I didn’t see on your collection. Now that others are getting into this hobby, you have more competition and with that the prices have gone up. So after about 10 years, I’m starting to look for vintage seikos bc there seems to be plenty and since the watch culture died after the Apple Watch, there’s more inventory out there. I’m sure there are ppl. that collect Rolex, Omega and other high end brands, but Seiko quality is very good and other Japanese brands. So it’s a more affordable hobby and if you know how to restore them, even better bc many don’t and once it’s in bad shape, they as very little for it. So I just restarted this passion for Japanese brands and starting with old Seiko digital watches. I already bought 3 and today was going to buy another one and the model that came out in 76 and the first chrono Seiko put out. I was all excited bc the bid started on eBay at $52. and thought to myself, how great to have that watch after learning about just yesterday. But someone else got it and I figured bc others were listing the same iconic watch for $500. Also, that’s great that you know places that sells new covers and can’t think of the name. Bc i always felt with the decline watch stores and repair store in America, I figured that was impossible. Oh and I’ve always loved the jewel crystals.
@jacknjill3000
@jacknjill3000 Год назад
Pt. 2 Hopefully collecting old watches will catch on to keep it going. And wish more places open up to restore watches. This actually would be a great new business to restore old watches and sell and trade them, like they do with classic cars. Everything else like vintage hi fi equipment and record collecting is back, so I’m sure anything that was extremely popular in the past, will come back. Oh and I’ve also notice many retro watches being sold and restored from India and the Philippines. But also heard that many of those sold have old parts inside from other watches and not original. And they use after market new faces to make them look new. So I guess there are new after market part being made for these watches cans someone saw a new market. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and going to subscribed.

Thank you for your comment, the digital Seiko is a 0634- there were 3 models the 5001, 5009 and the iconic 5019 I have all 3 and actually done a video ages ago on the module. These go for good money now as the online community as massive and more awareness for these means more people looking for them. The hobbyist watchmaking is now bigger than it was when I started in 2016. I think people like me and others who show how to work on watches on RU-vid has brought many more to the hobby. Thanks for your subscription.

I was researching my late grandfather's watch and found your video. It's a Seiko 5 6119-5431 made in June of 1973, so same as the first watch of your collection, only with a white clock face. It would need some restoration to get back to its former glory, especially on the white clock face which shows some slightly damaged areas. It's nice to know that this watch made you start your whole collection and you did an excellent job restoring it. In fact, just seeing how it came out makes me want to see my grandpa's watch shine again. In my case I have zero experience, so it's better for this watch if I stay humble and just take it to a shop. Maybe I could start tinkering with a watch I'm less attached to... The main time mechanism and the date are working fine, while the space where the day of the week should be indicated is white, as if it was stuck between two days. Do you know how to change the day on this model? I read that the date on 6119 A/B models needs to be set by moving the hands 24 hours, while on 6119 C the crown needs to be pushed--as with the date, only deeper--but I don't know which sub-model this one is. Neither method seems to affect this particular mechanism at all, confirming its likely damage, but it would be nice to know anyway, and I just may try again before sending it in for repair. The bracelet lock seems to be firmly stuck too, but I suppose it can be salvaged.

@@MyRetroWatches Yes, sure can see the charm with the vintage ones! There is quite a lot of flea markets around here, only managed to find one older Seiko, a Quarts, swapped in a new battery, ordered a new crystal and polished the case. Unfortunately it had a white dial but worked fine until the metal ring holding the crystal decided to pop out. Never found the rinag and crystal again! Hey man, Love your videos or least this series thus far....... (moving to part 3 after this) ... and sincerely admire & more importantly UNDERSTAND your passion "big league" for not only collecting but mostly fixing them and the joy it brings as a hobby and or business or both, these things when done right are actual perpetual motion machines - sorta - in a way, no?... I want to learn so much more and have to, that's for sure... HEY.... are you Aussie or British - if you do not mind me asking? ...I want to learn how to fix these and especially identify what is real parts and what replaced and what is acceptable...(or some case just as good or near OEM parts and what is JUNK) ....replaced parts and what is intentionally removed too use in a more pricey situation / watch - if that makes sense as well as a decent starters toolkit FOR / with these things as well as especially identifying the watch bands that will fit each to be able to change them at will or order them for a particular watch at will 'rather... Anyways, please keep these awesome videos coming and hope you have time to read my comment / compliments / motivation and admiration of your "passion" in not only wearing but fixing these... I really loved the one watch you thought was an "acquired taste" sent from the Philippines with the unusual shape as some do HAVE and it was teal-ish in color - the parts around the dial at least, loved it, absolutely gorgeous and what a job fixing it, do I need pricey tools to start to polish and or brush my orient(s) 3-***'s from the early 70's and SEIKO 5's as well as how does one pick the BEST glass or acrylic or any other type of cover when indeed of replacement and is a typical shape, what is the top of the line and can all of them take the bubble glass that protrudes out a bit as I like so much... Do you sell any pieces? I would cherish and wear that everyday if so as in purchase it... as... That is my ACQUIRED taste, hehe. Hey, I just started to get into this and would like honest opinions, nothing wrong with telling me TRUTHS so I can learn whether it hurts or not as I have thick skin so can you tell me how I have done with the last two watches I purchased, one is your flavor as in SEiKO 5 however with many parts replaced I think however I happen to like the look of the parts replaced with the copper dial and the pink-ish but still very much "manly imo" watch... very unique, reminds me of the copper in the middle of dial and I am an electrician whom also loves the 50's era even though I was born in 1980 so that pink-ish color reminds me of the old kitchens of the 50/60's era? ...at least in America! ... I ordered this guy below and says up to 8.0 but contact for-larger wrists, I - measured my wrist with a tape measure as I am a fit guy..... (not muscular or overweight at all but fit AND 6 foot four or just about if I was to bet seems me and you may have the same sort of wrist!!) ......& it came to be 8 inches or so to the nose (metal - non very pliable tape measure used as all I had access to - ATM) ..... a centimeter (Or milometer, we Americans use backwards measurement scales so please forgive ME.. LOL( ... or 2 absolute tops as in basically 8 to the tight fit I am assuming, guessing should I contact for larger even though I really like the metal mesh one the one Orient and SEIKO 5's HAVE no and come with.... (not original, only part to Orient, VERY OLD Orient also I will use for Christmas time, haha - u will see why in a moment) .... is also nice that ordered from the ""BAY".... Hmm... dumbfounded on what to do but exited and again, want to get back to watching your videos so my main question is & again, please be totalllllyyyy honesttttt, so I learn and learn proper.... Here is the Seiko 5 I ordered from a very reputable seller as in great feedback and ALLOT Of it, I know it may be what we call a "franken~watch" .. in some areas of this one but in those ares I really LOVED (LOVE) thee look so pulled the trigger beings so cheap.... he even is installing rings around the crown and rear as in rubber rings to try to seal it off as best as possible but can never tell me its water resistant ever again he said so seems honest although wish there was a way for us to make these very cool vintage ones totally water proof or at LEAST good enough for a shower here and there if forgotten to take it off and even a push into a pool but not diving, this one I loved the pink as mentioned above and the COPPER beings I am an electrician.... (wish one of the companies made an Electricians themes watch.. (that was not to cheese or overwhelming) but sorry, enough JABBERING in .......excitement, here is my ordered Seiko 5 watch that has allot of .. parts replaced but seems the main insides are the same, serviced and working superb! ...............so what do you think of this guy here, honestly as in to many parts changed and should I ask for anything, any certain terminology as they seem to be very willing to do so beings I am going to buying many more, from them as already showed them and promised.... eBay Link to SEiKO-5 watch from India I ORDERED from eBay - what do you think?... : Mwww.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-SEIKO-5-AUTOMATIC-CAL-6309A-COPPER-DIAL-DAY-DATE-MENS-WRIST-WATCH-GW53/363334147670 Look forward to your PERSONAL reply good or bad and others.... Now, the most or one of most pricey gamble I took in awhile even though cheap still for what it is iMO...... (eBay TAX, = GRRRRRRR) .....was this "very, very OLD" according to reputable seller and unique men's layout they said with nice size to it that I liked as love the true green and few also True RED numbers as well as the Christmas "Like-LOOK" - with the chrome (stainless steel) ...so here is the eBay link to this one which is supposedly ALL original and fully working or money back as well as very old, early 70's - ish - very unique shape and love it when the watch connection to the strap / bank is hidden underneath like this little gem (imo) here but really want your opinion? LINK to Orient *** "Christmas Edition" ....we will call it: : www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ORIENT-AUTOMATIC-JAPAN-MENS-DAY-DATE-WATCH-432k-a217755-4/184723149614 Also, what do you think of the brand Ricoh like this or just the brand in general, they have some nice ones: www.ebay.com/itm/RICOH-R31-MECHANICAL-AUTO-VINTAGE-JAPAN-MEN-039-S-D-D-AUTHENTIC-WATCH-411-a204733-4-/184724597918?_trkparms=aid%3D1110002%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111451%26meid%3D97f764d4b51f45db875b598efe97b078%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D184717964018%26itm%3D184724597918%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedSellersOtherItemsV2WithMLRv3%26brand%3DRicoh&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=uEJQhoycJK4O0v53mxqMdJJmWjc%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc I also may get an Electric or Desil watch to have with battery if these do not work as everyday drivers as in one or two of them as will prob buy a few more all together and see about the tool kit to start repairing myself... I wish there was a way for us to water proof them or least make them SHOWER-PROOF!!! ....Maybe somewhere out here on the internet there is.... Hey on MY orient since just ordered shall I ask him to put any type of protruding or special glass or acrylic in your opinion and to change the band beings what I said above with my wrist being just about RighT for this one, so it seems?.... I suppose they have larger just the next size up of these same bands laying around? What band would you link me to and put on the Orient if she was YOURS? .... If you send me one, I will go with it and buy it to swap it out, I like big bands that get as wide as watch and do not have to be metal although red leather is always nice for this one I suppose or anything really you feel suits it in larger size that can be tucked away as if I am over that "up to an 8" then it is just barely so unsure what size that would even be, thanks so much for your time, getting back to your video(s) now and praying or hoping rather that you see this SOON before he ships and yoU have time to reply, thanks again so much either way and again - keep these great vidz coming man, Stephen....

I have a Seiko 5 with a 7009 8210 movement . It keeps better time than my new Seiko snxg47k1. I will get to some watch fairs when all this Covid has gone away.

You created more interests inside me. Your video generated so much affection towards Seiko watches. Recently I bought few vintage , refurbished watches and hooked into it. What about Ricoh watches? In India, too many variants of Ricoh vintage watches, made in Japan are available in affordable price. But some say, they are not serviceable as parts won't be available for Ricoh watches.

That is great to see that some of my videos are inspiring. Ricoch I love! I only have one now but its such a good movement. I also like early Orients of the 70s. ]

Great collection! Can you tell me the serial number of those laying on the side? The ones with the brown/black leather band, those catches my eye in a second!

If you don’t already have one, here’s a good reference for you. The 7019-5140. It’s like a baby Patek Nautilus. Beautiful watch.

OnGod, all it takes is the right Musician/Actor and then you watch the price on these beauties climb to "Top Tier" status where they should be. Seiko have been making great Timekeepers forever imo

I have several G5 female watches that would be better off in your hands. I plan to learn on what I have I also have one Grand Seiko automatic that never has run well.

Wow a grand Seiko! lovely things and so much better made. I have never worked on one and would be fearful to given the value of them. My advise would be to try to work on one of the movements I have covered here on the channel as that way at least you have a guide that may help you. Best of luck.

Hi just found your channel. Great collection. I was wondering why you dont have the bullhead in your collection. In my view that's the best one.

Thanks, this was filmed over a year ago and since then my collection has grown further although not so many Seikos. I have aspired to the Pogue and the Bullhead. The Pogue I made my own a few months ago of which there is a video on this channel. The Bullhead I have just acquired, a brown dial version which was the one I wanted. It needs quite a bit of work but I will look forward to restoring that one. most of my collection can be seen here www.myretrowatches.co.uk
