Beautiful Sleds. Most look like new. I used to restore snowmobiles as a hobby and sell them. The degree of these restorations goes way beyond me. Mine were for people to use, not show. I knew a collector and loved to go to his storage barn and look at his collection. He sold them all a few years back. I used to buy parts from him. He worked 3 days a week at the hospital making twice what I made in two weeks. The rest of his time he bought BARN FIND sleds and restored them. Many took him several years per sled to restore. I had several of those John Deere sleds myself. I have been Novi down state. There is a Sled Museum up in the UP of Michigan that has many cool vintage snowmobiles.

My neighbors dad had a John Deere spitfire when i was growing up. It eventually blew up and got buried in the grandparents barn. His parents divorced soon after and it sat in that barn for 20 years. Last year he dug it out when he inherited the property, and started to rebuild it for his son. He called me when he got it going finally last week. What an amazing trip down memory lane that was, great old sled.

these are sleds I grew up riding. I laugh and shake my head every time I hear people with new sleds crying about how rough the trails are.

LMAO!!! Yeah, they have it so bad! They oughtta try running any of these babies 50mph down an ungroomed trail! I'll betcha the new sleds ride better on powerlines and 2 tracks than these do on groomed trails. Plus free-air sleds always ran hot, unless it was 10 below zero. What modern rider has to worry about overheating? Or pull a Tillotson carb to free the needle and seat??!!!!

For the King Kats there were three versions of this one year only model. 650 triple JLO, 793 triple Hirth, 800 four Kawasaki.

My cousin had a chaparral. I remember trying to hold on to the rear bars. It vibrated so much that your hands were just suspended around the bar.

The biggest king cat that was back in the day was a 880 4 cylinder not a 1000cc it was a 880cc

That 880 was a custom one off. The production model was an 800 Kawasaki. We were dealers back then.

I started snowmobiling in 69 and went to snowmobile shows. I could name at least 20 different brands not shown. Back in those days there must have been at least 35+ different brands.
