BBC is the real deal. Me and my father were on a bike ride one day years ago when we passed by the shop and saw a help wanted sign in the window. They hired me and taught me so much. I have so many great memories from working there and spending time with the Bontempo brothers and the other mechanics. There father use to work there when I started and he was also a great influence on me. If you need parts or work done, definitely drop in. They have helped me so many times and have been a great source of knowledge. I love these guys and hope they keep on doing what they do for as long as they can.

these kind of men are disappearing to fast. they have the foresight to save rare parts and machinery that is used for vintage vehicles. seeing that shop brought tears to my eyes. you just dont see these anymore. theres nothing like going in and smelling old oil, metal, cleaners, everything from the old days. thank you for this video so many memories were brought back from a bygone era. 🚗 🛻🚙

Holy cow ! These guys built a driveshaft for my fox back in 94. They figured out my pinion angle was way off and destroyed my ring and pinion. Went there because of article in MMFF

My God. I just realized there's none of these left! Man, I miss that speed shop smell. The greatest place to spend time as a young person.

Brings tears to my eyes, machine work is triple if not more. I used to bore blocks for $90 rodwork started at 15 then 7.50 each other rods. Cleaning a block for $50 bucks.

This place should be a unesco world heritage site, and therefore protected from any kind of damage or destruction. Bucket list field trip stuff. Need to visit this place before it’s gone.

Love it! No computer inventory, which is always wrong.... just the owner who knows and remembers EVERYTHING that is in the shop. And they actually machine, resurface and repair parts instead of throwing them in the garbage and selling a new POS Chinese made part.

That place is a dream. I wish we had a place like this around here. Old is gold!

I’ve known the Bontempo family for 50 years, and you don’t get any better than these guys! Seriously, they are the best.

I had about 7 of my cars there over the last few years before they retired. Mike and Joe always did a great job with my cars. Had my 76 Caddy eldorado they basically put almost everything new in it to my 66 Chrysler Newport that needed everything too. Could always trust them when the job was done. Great honest guys. Miss them.

I used to go to a local speed shop in my old neighborhood down in Manhattan on the lower west side called Manhattan Speed Shop on Worth Street. This place reminds me of that place. Brings back memories of the good times. Good to see someone is keeping the traditions alive.

I just watched this video (it has been out for 2 years) and looked up BBC Speed to see what's happening at the shop. I'm sad to see that it has been liquidated due to the owner's retirement. What a cool place! I wish it was still opened because I could use some of those parts.

i worked in spare parts - 1975 - started and often on the tools - books for spare parts and memorising fast moving part numbers !

Reminds me of my many trips to B &R Speed Shop in Oakmont PA. In my younger days. Those were good times

There was a speed shop near Corpus Christi TX I happened by wayy back in the 1980s, they had everything right there, and a section that had used race car parts on consignment from racers- there were Lenco transmissions, narrowed rear ends, superchargers, engines, old fuel injection setups, etc.- it was hard to leave the place)

I wish someone in Australia had the forethought to have done this here. The way restorations are proliferating in Australia, having a one stop shop like this would be a goldmine for the enthusiast and professional alike. Alot of the gearboxes on sale in his store were installed in many cars new here. Muncie m20 m21 top loader and more. Amazing collection....

When I was in the Army stationed in Savannah, GA, we had a Super Shops and I became good friends with the staff, bought my 89 5.0 hatch from an employee....

Had one like that in Indy years ago. Gunderman's Speed Shop. I used to walk the isles weekly. Bought a set of hood pins when I was 12 (45 years ago) installing them on my 1971 Dart this year. Lol!

Mike and Joe are personal friends of mine, l started off being a costumer 5 years ago and they have worked on my 65 Chevelle Pro Street car , my 69 Firebird 400, Now my 70 GTO, l wouldn’t take my cars anyplace else, and it all started with a phone call to them 5 years ago when l needed a motor overhaul on my 70 442 W-30, Thx Mike & Joe, Your Fried from Patanza in Naples Italy, not Sicily lol.Kurtano…….lol it’s a private joke between us ,for all the readers viewing this comment

Very cool, love these old school speed shops, definitely a survivor. I recently watched a video of Holman Moody who are still operating today w the last 7 surviving chassis for the GT-40 from the first block builds in the 60’s

Man this is a museum I used to hang out at speed shops all the time, the old timers were awesome, nothing better than a sun faded crane cams sitting on the shelf the smell means business no more shops here in Michigan bring them back no catalogs or mail orders. Miss those days like a kid in a candy store.

This must be Bontempo Bros.! They saved me a few back with a rush set of SBF head rebuild using all Manley parts (rebuild when stuck in North Jersey for a weekend between Atco/Cecil/Maplegrove point races). Awesome history & service Cheers!

Bringing back memories.... I worked at the company next door at 1515 & 1525 West Blanke Street in Linden for 3 years back in the late 90's. BBC was always a great shop & I have never heard a bad word about their work. I know they sold the property last year but hopefully they are still doing some of the work somewhere else.

Im retired now but when working my shop's neighbor was an auto parts guy. Just the more current junk. The owner knew exactly what he had and where it was. Reaching into a pile of instrument clusters and without seeing what he grabs he pull out what he was looking for. Amazing!

Reminds me back in the 80’s

Oh wow! I remember when my brother in law and I worked in Union NJ and my brother in law had his big block Chevy built at BBC back in 2001. He put it in a one ton Chevy pickup with a dump bed of all things haha. 4x4, 4 speed, but he put it in a couple of truck pulls and did decently well with it. Great running engine. Believe he still has the engine actually. Great blast from the past Evan!

Another great video... takes me back to my youth.... used to be lots of guys that knew about all the different parts interchangeability right off the top of their heads...

I've worked in parts for over 35 years, this is one of the nicest I have seen.

good gawd this brought tears to my eyes... Remember auto parts/shops like this when i grew up. i learned so much from the guys. seemed like they knew everything, without needing computers..... they would go right to the shelves or maybe looking in the massive row of catalogs.... and their onsite machinists knew what they were doing. rotos/drums etc... cut machined... all great work. i saw this video and was like WOW i wanna send my brake drums to them to find they are closed...... we have been losing so many skilled guys and having great local places like this to hang out.... sad... but i am so grateful i grew up when i did and was like a leach when i was at these places with my dad.... now sadly.... you just buy cheaply made crap instead of getting stuff machined.... i get it though..... pricing.... good work isn't cheap, cheap work isn't good.....

Two things you didn't touch on, 1.) The sweet smell of old Speed Shops, with the years of chemicals, cleaners, gunk machines, and the rubber products. 2.) Where's the box of stickers and decals that they would let the kids pick from,when they walked through the door! These were my fondest memories as a 12 yr. old.

Great shop! You were lucky to have one in your area back then, and still today! It was mostly catalogs and mail-order back then, but you had to KNOW the part or catalog existed with thousands of different independent companies. There was also a lot more going to the machine shop to have your own parts made/modified. The storefront was a later 60'-70's thing that grew up alongside Drag Racing, often catering to the local drag/street racers and wannabes. Everyone pulled their stock parts from the TONS of junkyards that used to exist. It all gets recycled a bit too quick these days. But the knowledge of the parts guy is key here, and this guy has it. What a treasure!

I remember how cool it was to drive to Denver back in the early 1960s to get stuff at Bandimere's speed shop, 2023 was Bandimere Speedway's last season... Nothing but respect for the Bandimere family.

Unfortunately this place closed a year ago. Younger generations really need to be taught this kind of knowledge...I mean work side by side learning stuff like this fella knows, because after guy's like this are gone...so is their expertise....as in this case of them closing. I myself am working on a 63 GP and it's really hard to find places the have old stock and can do machine work. I have this one place that I've been going to for over 30 years. I needed the rear axle bearings replaced. Brought them in...didn't care what it cost...I mean I paid $30 an axle...30 years ago..now is $75 a side. I joked with the the owner about it, but hey there time is worth something...I guess I cared a little..😅 The shop "parts" wise looks like BBC and the owner knows where everything is. And again...he's finding it hard to find guys to pass his knowledge down to....and his time is limited.

What an awesome shop! It's sad that there are hardly any of them left anymore. Guys/shops like this are going to be able to name their price because those parts and services are getting so hard to find. Also, those previous couple of moves had to be absolutely epic! Can't imagine the sheer volume of parts having to be moved/organized again. Awesome place and seems like a great guy!

Remembering the 70's....good times, when speed shops had it all .No auto zone.

there used to be a lot of these type shops in Australia in the 1970,s i dont know of 1 today that has parts and services, most wouldnt know what a nail head buick was and wouldn,t know where to get muncie parts. But they specialise in putting stickers on their toolboxes and wearing T shirts with brand name logos. steve in Australia

We still have an old school speed shop in the city near where I live. Sometimes I just stop there and walk around just to get motivated to keep working on my car but I always give them as much business as I can. These places are like church to me.

OMG...BBC 😃 I've known these guys for years! Mike n Joe are the best! I received a phone call from them several months ago that they're closing up the shop 😒 We had a mutual dear friend pass away years ago. Whenever Mike n I spoke, we would always laugh about all the stories about Rich Vena. I'll have to reach out to the Brothers. Thanks for the video!

When I was going to ford school I had to wait a couple months for my dealer sponsor to open a spot so they let me work at a general repair shop the guy I learned from had a lathe from a ww2 battleship we used to make different parts we literally could fix anything.

In Detroit area we had Gratiot Auto Supply. You could walk in a build a T'Bucket. I'll take that frame; that front end; that rear and that motor and every part to finish it. It was gear head candy store.

Lol good ol BBC, those guys have been around forever! I used to work 2 minutes down the road from thier at a place called Apple tire in Rahway. Work at a subaru dealer up in Wayne now but still live in hood ol Avenel🤘 so cool to see the legend himself Evan at a local speed shop 5 minutes from me. And believe it or not, I worked at crazy horse for a short period of time back in my high school days!!! Keep up the awesome content bro🙏👌
