Hi my loves! As requested today’s video is all about my vintage tea cup collection. As you know besides luxe items, I love thrift and vintage shopping too. Let me know in the comments below something you collect? Xx Mel
I love your collection. Most of mine came from my grandmother. Like you, I collect those I think are pretty and I care little about resale value. I live to look at mine.
You've chosen lots of great sets! I love the colours and designs. Actually, over the years of seeing them on your channel, it inspired me to pick some up. I just picked up 2 at an antique shop 2 weeks ago. I'm thrilled. 😊 I adore how many designs there can be and just the whole vibe of tea cups and the scenarios there used in. It gives me that wash it of zen and comfort.
Thanks so much Joyce! Happy to hear you started collecting too. Half the fun is going hunting for them so its great you picked up 2 sets you already love xx
There is a business in Greensboro, N.C, USA - REPLACEMENTS, LTD. - which specializes in locating, identifying and selling fine China and silver patterns from around the world. You can find online, send photos and experts will identify, value and buy\sell pieces. GReat website and resource!
Thanks Mel, been waiting for this video! Beautiful collection you have there. My grandma told me that bone china needs to be washed in warm mildly soapy water at least once a year ( talking about decorative pieces here, that don’t get a lot of action😊) to prevent the fine cracks appearing, because bone dries out over time. Just a tip. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing❤️
@@MelinMelbourne I picture you having a photo shoot with 10 favorite tea cup sets matching with your floral dresses and bags in the same colors. Kind of fun and fancy tea party 💃
I really enjoyed seeing all of your tea cups. IA had quite a collection myself and last year my cancer was getting worse and I thought I was going to lose my life, and I had six sisters come up and I gave all of my viable heirloom items away from JEWELRY to numerous family heirlooms and Collectibles including all of My teacups, figurines and My Parent’s wedding gift of a Hand-blown glass bouquet of mixed colored flowers (like none other to be seen before); And then I got better😊❣️🌈 I miss the glass bouquet and my tea cups especially. I have begun collecting a new set but some of those that I gave away I never to be found again yes they were rare finds❣️ You have some remarkable tea cups and I enjoyed you showing them to us. They were just beautiful each one in of its own❣️❣️🌈You have several fine bone china tea cups like I have where it is multiple fine edges and not round… They are at least eight -sided, with the sides being 2 different sizes…very beautifully scalloped & also geometrically designed…..I am very much interested in how this design came about. I am not yet done so, but I plan on researching how this beautiful delicate design came about in tea cups. If you know this information already, I would love receiving it’s from you. It’s very easy to miss, UNTIL YOU PUT IT UP TO YOUR LIPS TO DRINK OUT OF IT…..It is only then that you notice it is not perfectly round❣️❣️ for you are forced to reshape your lips so as not to spill a drop of tea❣️Very quaint, I must admit❣️❣️💜 I hope to have an opportunity to have more tea cups and to enlarge my collection as you have. I personally had very few 3-pc tea cups but now, I will make them a priority❣️❣️ exquisite, simply exquisite is what I have to say about your collection🌸💕❣️❣️ Again, Thank You to Share the Beauty of your Tea Cup Collection, as well as it’s History with us us❣️🌸❣️
Hi Mal wonderful beautiful collection I also collect cups and saucers. I have over 700 different kinds and still have two big Rubbermaid containers full of them have to put them out most of them are out I use them but I will not sell them. I’m really into vantage cups and saucers and complete sets of dishes.
Such a beautiful collection Mel! I started my own collection years ago and I have some tea cups that are over 70 years old. The designs are so intricate and gorgeous. And after a long day of work isn't it just lovely to have a nice cup of tea in one of these beautiful vintage cups....?
ahh I love this video! Please do more tea ware videos in the future!! I just started my tea ware collection a couple months ago as covid restrictions started loosening up and we were able to see friends but not really go out for tea. I’m only collecting vintage Royal Albert for now and mainly cup and saucer sets and teapots! My oldest piece is a Blossom Time cup and saucer set marked Crown China. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but from what I read online they stopped using the Crown China stamp in the 1930s so I’m guessing my Blossom Time set dates back to 1920s-30s! I’m curious which is the oldest piece in your collection! Thank you so much for sharing your collection Mel! Seeing tea cup collections make me so happy!
You have a lovely (and very large) collection. The tea cup/saucer I have that I think is among the oldest is one I bought for my mother for Mother's Day in the summer of 1961. Mom had just started collecting a few sets, so I bought it for her while I was on summer vacation. My sister took some of Mom's sets, so I don't know if she got any older ones. (Edit: I'm looking for one with a dragon on it and a geisha image in the bottom of the cup. I found one, but it was of very poor quality, so I didn't purchase it. I know they can be purchased online, but I want to find it "in the wild" while I'm out thrifting!) I have one or two that also include the dessert plate. Love them!
Your collection is so beautiful!!! I love Royal Albert! Thx for giving us the tips on what to look for in purchasing a tea set. Once it has a hairline crack it’s no longer safe to use right? Can you repair hairline cracks? I thoroughly enjoyed this video 💕
Hi Mel, I started collecting teacups at the beginning of the pandemic. Adore your collection! May I ask how you store / display your collection? Thank you!
Thank you for sharing, Mel! These are so lovely and I’ve been wanting to collect vintage tea cups but not sure what are some vintage companies. I love how you went over the maker name.
I've been feeling like collecting something lately. I decided to collect bottle caps (like beer caps) like I did when I was a kid. I'm poor ATM so it's something to collect that doesn't cost any money. But I'm going to start looking for tea sets in thrift stores. I drink tea every night.
Little different but worth the watch. Had seen few of ur vintage cup purchases before in your another video. Had loved it all. So lovely collection mel. ❤️😍
OMG! I am over the moon!!! I have been collecting fine bone china tea cups since my collage years! I am so happy you filmed this video! The Russian and Eastern Europe made ones are beyond description!
Mel in Melbourne totally agree with you, I am having fun collecting and hunting for vintage tea cups, I have already added 5 more pieces to my collection, thanks for sharing, Mel.
Smiling as I watch this. I live in Stoke-on-Trent (the Potteries as we're known) where many of your teacups were made and you can barely give a full tea set away here! Wherever I am in the world I always surreptitiously check the maker mark to see if its come from home 😊
Brilliant, wonderful collection. I am not the only one who collects China - I particularly love Royal Doulton, 20’s-30s Art Deco sets are my favourite and anything from Royal Copenhagen
Lyrebird? Hmm, I would have guessed pheasant. Gorgeous collection Mel, love all the florals, they suit you so well! Thanks for sharing another aspect of your life with your fam Mel!
Mel, you know what? I like to collect tablewares too but not mainly teacups, I like to buy plates, bowls etc. Your collection is huge and I enjoy watching this kind of video.❤️❤️🥰🥰😍😍
Hello, I was recently given some H J Co Bavaria tea cups, saucers and another smaller plate for under the saucer I'm guessing. I've searched online but I think I'm doing something wrong. Can you please advise where and how I'd research? I'm very new to this thank you 😊
This is a very interesting video, Mel~~ I also collect mugs, cups and glasses! I like Royal Albert style, vintage, rustic, flowery type of things, but in real life, I collect any cups with unique design and pattern
I don't have a tea set collection yet, but I've always coveted the China Blue. I think it's the British who brought it with them to my nook of Africa, and they became so fashionable in my childhood.... so, I was hoping to see those. But your collection is just pretty
I have several lovely teacups that I've held on to for ages, others that I've broken or gotten rid of... But, oh how I envy you that Windsor teacup/snack plate! Google searches are getting me nowhere but on the chance you have the name of it I'd be much obliged! Thank you! ; )
I love your tea-cups. Each one is so beautiful. I too collect tea-cups for almost 40 years. I just love collecting them. I love how you include the third dish for the dessert. What I have done for the dessert dish so they will match the teacups is by having several sets of coloured glass. I have been collecting Depression Glass for a longtime now, in pink, green, blue and amber. I like to match the glass dishes with the tea-cups. They look so pretty together. So pretty.
Beautiful collection! I have a big collection that I just can't part with. Most were shower gifts 53 yrs ago. Some from my mom, a couple from my mother in law. So they're all well over 50 yrs old. They all have a story. Thankyou!
What?? Not expensive?? O.M.G. You hv teacups & saucers there on that table, never mind behind you, never mind the matching tea plates, worth $500, $1,000, to $2K to $4K or $5K APIECE!! Then add in the tea plates, of which you were really smart enough to collect many, & the amt. you hv in total is staggering!!! Find a way to insure them!!! NOT kidding!!! You have NO idea what you have there!!!
This video was SO interesting, Mel ! I loved listening to your tips and you detailed descriptions of your gorgeous tea cups. The Moustache cup was especially fascinating to learn about. How practical were people back then. The floral patterns really do reflect your aesthetic taste ( you like floral tea cups as much as a pretty floral dress ) and they are so pretty and soothing to look at
Thanks for this video. I didn’t know that cups and saucers came in trios, good to know. I don’t collect, but I love setting a table or just serving my guest with beautiful china like my Mom taught me, makes me happy. I have to say that us women that enjoy these types of things have a certain level of sophistication and attention to detail. We can appreciate the beauty in all things in life which the Lord provides, that show in other areas of our life and in how we treat others I’m sure you would agree. ☕️ 🫖 🍵 🍶🍸🍴🍽🥛👗👒
Hi Mel. I Love tea cups very much. I Feel like i am a kid though im now in my mid 30s. Yor tea cups are beautiful and cute. By the way im your new subscriber. Love your videos.
You need some with flower (usually rose or pansy) or butterfly handles on the tea cups!!! If u want to get REALLY crazy. A lot of the ones with black backgrounds seem to be very valuable & collectible too, FYI.
Love your collection! I recently purchasing from antique shops and was wondering if you ever have concerns around lead content for older pieces? if so, what do you do?
Some teacups Ansley in particular have gone way up, I have seen some go for around $200 to $300 at auction especially the ones with large fruit or roses on them. There was one I saw that had sold at auction on eBay for over $700 close to $800, and I don't remember the maker, that was just for 1 cup and 1 saucer it blew my mind and that was within less than a year ago.
When shopping around for your tea collection, do you only purchase sets (more than one of the same kind) or an individual trio piece (1 tea cup, 1 plate and so on? I’m extremely new to this. Thanks in advance ❤
Omg I've been following you off and on for a couple years now but I never saw this video.. i'm currently trying to invest in a beautiful fine tea set so i was happy and shocked to find your video at the beginning of my research! I'm ready to be influenced 😜
Hi Mel. I just discovered these elegant teacups and I am waiting for my first ever Royal Albert teacup and saucer to come. I cannot wait to use it. Nice way to calm down with a nice cup of tea in an elegant teacup. Nice collection you have. Tq for sharing
