Watching those old tractors, especially that big red International crawler, I'm reminded of the days working my grandfather's acres back in the '50s and '60s with an old military surplus Cat D2 crawler, in military drab, plowing, discing and harrowing!! Odd thing was, eventually the Extension service evaluation of Grandpa's land suggested a D6 ripper, to break up the "hard-pan", highly compressed soil just below the depth of the plow-shares, which caused poor irrigation and was caused by the weight of that old D2 going over the land for so many years!!
That’s a Howard Square Plough behind the Ford TW. I was daft enough to buy one in the 1980s - what a mess it made. It came with nylon mouldboards, which wore through in the first 50 acres. We replaced them with steel ones, but it was still an awful implement.
I am disappointed with one beautiful tractor (the awesome BTD 20 crawler)she is a beaut but my research suggests that the normally bulletproof RR motor had many issues (quite suprising)would appreciate any input, thanks
