Funny how Alcohol was advertised as such a great thing back then.

Ahhhhhh a time went people actually went to the Pub! Some great ads Steve that I've never seen before. Love the John Smith one's. Also the Bacardi one is great :) Feel like a drink now 😂

Ummm… people still do go to the pub.

@@MrAronRobinson Not like they used to. Pub closures show this. Young people either don't drink or go out once or twice a week. When I was younger, I'd be out every night

Mum always had a bottle of QC in the cupboard for visitors. I used to like to sneak a nip of it when i was a kid because it was sweet. I'm sure some of you did too

I only snuck a drink from my parents' booze cabinet once, when I was 14, and it got a bit out of hand. In my curiosity I tried a bit of everything and got blind stinking drunk, and VERY sick. Learned a lesson there.

Hey Steve, my first time commenting. Love the Channel, great videos. I love watching these old commercials from the UK, super cool. Keep up the great content, much respect from the US

Nice to have viewers overseas too. Most viewers are from the UK, for obvious reasons. There's a second channel too with more in-depth retro content. If you're curious, links are on the channel page and suggested videos at the end of each of these compilations. Thanks for commenting. 🌎🇺🇸 😎👍

The UK seems to have so many more brands of liquor, beer, and alcohol in general than the US. I wonder if that's because so many Americans don't drink.

"QC, the _friendly_ British sherry"? Because other sherries are... aggressive? Standoffish? Antisocial? I know advertising often uses some odd adjectives, but I don't even begin to understand what they're trying to suggest with that 😁 (And to another suggestion, I continue, years later, to refute the suggestion that that Hofmeister mascot even remotely resembles a bear, when clearly it should have been seen alongside Roland Rat on morning TV 😆)

He does a bit. I was a big Roland 'Ratfan'. I had all two of his records!

When half those beers still tasted OK, before the international breweries got hold of them..

That Bacardi advert reminded me of another one shown around the same time. A radio host buys an unreliable car from a car dealer and phones him up while live on air. "That hunk of junk broke down again!" The used car person then starts berating the radio host, not realising that he's speaking live on air and likely putting himself out of business. His mechanic employees try to tell him to keep quiet because they are listening to him on the radio. Hilarious! 😂 One for volume 13 perhaps if you can find it Steve. 🙂

Sounds like a good'un. I don't have it "in storage" at the moment, but you never know; it might turn up randomly.

Even without subsequently drinking it, the name of "Glayva" would have been in my memory forever, after first coming across it at a bottle stall at a fête being run in my primary school to raise funds for the school, because I won it, and the adult running the stall just handed it over to nine-year-old me 😆 You can probably imagine the reaction of my mum when I arrived home with that (and the bottle of red wine I also won). 🤣
