I am an amateur who will try anything once. And trying to install a bow style vinyl headliner in my 55 chevy is what i did here. I learned alot on this job. #headliner #vinyl #bowheadliner
Looking good brother. I think like you said working it a little more it will look great. Hope you both are doing better. Like I said I’m glad your putting in back in. Talk to you all on Friday. ✌️😎👍
Feeling much better, thank you Kevin, hope you and Kim are fully recovered. Seems I still have a small energy drop but pushing through. Learned some lessons on this job. It'd certainly not going to be perfect but it at least will have a.headliner. see ya Friday brother
I've made mistakes on it for sure Harry, but had to learn those lessons. It's gonna look as good as I can make it. Thanks for the support my brother. ✌️
BW it looks good so far. Just a little at a time you will get it. Don't over stress about it. Just work at a pace that you are comfortable with. Thanks for sharing and have a great evening BW and Kim 👋
Awesome video brother. Thanks for sharing. Hope you qnd Kim are feeling better. Been praying for you guys. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible night
Thanks Richard, it's a tough job for sure. I tried to show the other stuff left out of many videos. Like installing tack strips and an idea of how to do it.
Well I'm right where you are now BW and i have been letting mine just hang for about 3 weeks now and like you said, because it is vinyl it is not as forgiving as cloth for sure. I have been using a hair dryer and steam gun and it does seem to be getting the wrinkles out but there is still a lot left. I'm going to give it my all and i hope i don't have to go the cloth route. Hope you and Kim are back to 100% brother, take care..
It looks a little better ever day. I have a little spot where i got carried away with the heat gun, but it gives it character! Lol. I plan it just roll with it and let it form. I think inmay have snipped the listing a little to much where it bunches up at end. ? Time will tell
Nice job. I've done a couple of headliners before, or helped others do theirs, but they were always cloth. They were a pita but if you used enough steam and water you could get them fitting pretty nice. Good luck with yours. Be safe and stay well.
Vinyl has no forgiveness. If bows are not perfect it shows, mine are not perfect. Lol if you snip a little to much of the listing if it bunches up at end, it shows lol. I snipped a little to much. I got a little carried away in a spot with heat gun, that I have seen yield zero benefits yet. 😆 but overall it's not terrible and better than no headliner. Thanks Brian, see ya Friday
Great video putting a headliner by yourself is quite the job. I took my time on my 66' chevelle headliner trying to get it to look good .have a couple of mistakes but like you said live and learn
Taking on jobs like this, us never doing it, you have to take the good with the bad. Gives the car character. Makes it ours. Thank you for checking it out. I bet your 66 looks great.
Hey BW. So it looks OK. I need to put one into my Buick. I am using cloth because that is what was in there. A steamer will help get those wrinkles out. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
Thanks Lonnie, we are feeling much better. Still tired with lower than normal energy, but plowing through! Headliner is gonna be what it is, not gonna stress over it
Well that does look like a difficult job to do by yourself especially if you've never done one before. Keep at it man and hopefully you will be happier with your results. Thank you for the tip on going with the cloth one.
Cloth is forgiving, vinyl has zero forgiveness. It's looking ok, better than no headliner I think. Gonna make sure I can live with it before putting back glass in
they can be a real pain sometimes. i just put a new black headliner in my 56 hardtop and i couldn't get it tight enough to get all the wrinkles out of the two sides. so i got a guy that worked at the upholstery shop where i was buying supply's from before they closed down to come to my house and finish it for me. it took him about a hour for him to get it looking really good . he heated it and pulled it at the seams to get the sides tight. a sedan is a lot different how it tucks around the strips above the doors and with the wind lace too . my 59 el camino is like that too. your car is coming along great.
Wish I had access to an interior guy like that. They would scold me for the small area I messed up with heat for sure, but I bet they would get it better. I am happy with it now as imperfect as it is, Thanks for kind words on the car. I love it
Thanks bother, I've never built a car and alot of the stuff is my first time, but I figure if I can do at least a decent job on each thing it should be a really good one
Hey BW! I don't know how the upholstery guys do it. Its tough to get the vinyl to look real tight! When I did the convertible top I did the best I could and it still has some loose areas. I figure I'll try to stretch it some more on a sunny day. Good luck man keep playing with it you'll get it man! I enjoyed the video there is not much out there on headliners! Have a good one Buddy 👍
If you use a clothing steamer as you work the vinyl, it’ll soften up nice and after you glue it, it will cool off and tighten right up. That’s the trick
Yea I used it and got it a little to warm in a few spots, what ended up working for me, my buddy Phil stopped over and pulled the ends tight while I stapled. Second person made all the difference for an amateur like myself.
Is your windlace in wrong? The vinal flap is down by the dash? Doesn’t that go up by the B pillar where you install the cardboard to cover between back of front door and front of back side glass area? I have to do mine and this was very helpful. The windlace is what seems a little confusing to me.
