Hello James. I often see both Joe Cocker Mad Dogs as well as Sly Greatest, but they are always in very rough shape. Yours are nice... well done. Nice Supertramp, I've always liked them. Thanks Chris. It is certainly nice to find older records in great shape. The Supertramp is OK but like the others I have by them there are a few sound issues even though the vinyl looks immaculate to the naked eye. Maybe Supertramp fans were clumsy with their coffee mugs back in the day....
Hi James, you don't have many charity shop find videos, and I can honestly say your channel suffers not a jot as a result. That said I'm very happy to see one when you do luck on some loot! And you did very nicely with this lot. Some lovely giftage up front (I have the deluxe cd of Mad Dogs but still never listened to it!), and some bangers up the end. Hi Dean. I do still buy a lot of things from charity shops although it can be a dicey business. Yep, I had the exact same reaction when I saw Steve show that Grace album ('what? Another one??). One day I'll have to properly study her discography and see just how many records there are left to get!
Nice video! Two favourites from my collection appeared. The Jam - sound affects. My pearl is Boy about town - perfect pop song. And the Paul Simon live album - great warm music. Bridge over troubled water version is the track I come back to on that one!
Mad Dogs is one of the all-time great live albums. Can’t beat a collaboration between Leon Russell and Joe Cocker. I need Grace Jones in my collection. In the late 90s I bought the Sly and the Family Stone Anthology on CD. A larger collection running their discography thru Fresh. So I see that Greatest Hits a lot, and have never felt the need to pick it up. Love Sound Affects. Excellent charity shop scores, James. Cheers ✌🏻
Hi Jon. My intro to Sly was the 'Greatest Hits' CD that took in pretty much his whole career (maybe it's the one you're talking about), but I couldn't resist the earlier hits album on vinyl also. Still looking for all the studio records on vinyl apart from the first which I have a slightly later reissue of with an alternative cover.
Great records! I just listened to that Sly & The Family Stone album again recently for the 100th time. Bonnie Raitt is plentiful here in cheap bins. I've had that one for awhile and some great stuff on there, but I'm also not really a fan of the "Runaway" cover. I think "Touch" is a great Eurythmics album. It's the follow up to "Sweet Dreams".

I love that Sly Album, it is all killer. That was one of my first albums in my collection because of Columbia Record Club. Grace Jones is getting harder to find but she has such an interesting voice. I just picked up Even the Quietest Moments a few weeks ago and yesterday found a MoFi of Crime Of The Century. The album Touch is filled with great memories, I need to get that back. Great Jam album and yes, That’s Entertainment is my favorite song from them. Great pickups James

Grace Jones absolutely terrified me !!! Spitting image did a hilarious piss take of a citreon advert she featured in back in the day. Love that Boxtops tune,I hear it alot on a golden oldie type radio station i tune into 👍 Sound Affects....The Jam album I always forget about and a lot of fans choice for their no1 album by Weller and co . I love the packaging on that Joe Cocker album, seen it lots of times but never appreciated it folded out like that. Supertramp are a group I blow hot and cold on.I really like Crime of the Century though. Eurythmics are great, particularly the singles. I love Sound Affects, that's my favourite Jam album for sure. Anytime you can find The Jam and Grace at a charity shop it is a good day. Did you ever check out Grace's Warm Leatherette? It doesn't have a bad song on it. If you do not have it I would suggest giving it a whirl. If you want to sample it check out side B some night when you have some down time. It will definitely make you smile. I have several Joe Cocker albums but I have yet to pick up that classic. You picked up some nice records. I have to be in the right mood as well to listen to Supertramp. Sound Affects is my favorite Jam album and "That's Entertainment" is my favorite Jam song as well. Love that Clash album. Happy listening.
I had no Joe Cocker in my collection until John sent me that record. I don't know why but I never really took to his cover of ''With a Little Help from My Friends'. He was a talent though. Thanks Randy.
Every collection need a copy of 'Mad Dogs...' I'm glad you found reference in the Boss book. When you mentioned it before it surprised me, but on reflection it makes sense. I mean, if you've got that sort of 'throaty/gravely' voice, it's logical that you'd gravitate to somebody that bares that same kind of cross. Personally I very much enjoy the whole late 60s vibe of his performances. It seemed to be a time when you could really let loose on stage. Many live albums in the 70s and 80s seemed to become too self-conscious and the attempts to 'correct' them just made them sterile. I'm sure by the 80s most rock live albums were more overdub than live. I've got that Sly album. Picked it up at a Yard Sale in CA... It's an album of it's time. Supertramp: great stuff. Very underrated band. The Clash! nice. Oxfam do a pretty good job in general IMO. They may cost a little more but they generally do a good job of pushing forward the good stuff from the chaff. Cheers
We may have discussed Sly Stone before....I think he's too easily dismissed as an artist of his time, but we'll save that discussion for later! I'm very impressed with Oxfam at the moment. Lots more goodies to show.
Mad Dogs and Englishmen is a great film. Saw it at the Nile Theatre. Loved it. Went back and saw it again the following weekend. Greatest Hits is essential because it has two songs that are not on any of their studio albums. My local record store has Sound Affects. When I think of the Jam I think mullets. All the Clash albums are worth getting. Even the wanker, Give Em Enough Rope.
I don't mind Give Em Enough Rope, though it's sandwiched in between records that are a lot better than it. I only have the first Sly Stone album on vinyl but have heard the others.
Fantastic haul James; hope you keeping well mate 😀🙏🎶 I saw Paul Weller a few week ago and he was great; ‘Setting Sons’ is my fav Jam album; but ‘Sound Affects’ is definitely not far behind! My fav album tracks on there is ‘Dream Time’ and ‘Set The House Ablaze’. I was streaming The Clash’s self titled debut a lot last month; such a killer debut 🔥 Was so lucky to find the 7 inch single of ‘White Riot’ at the Record fair last month; it was a good price; love to get the 7 inch of ‘Complete Control’ as well as more of their singles 👍 Only taken them 3 week to record the debut at Mick Jones’ Grandmother’s flat I believe; also Terry Chimes was their part time drummer and didn’t feature on the album cover. Supertramp are such a great band; ‘Crime Of The Century’ was the second LP I ever bought 😀 Have a good weekend James; speak soon bud 😊🙏🍺🎶

Even if I'd found them at a record fair I'd have been a cloud 9, but Oxfam....Hope you're doing well and scoring regularly on the vinyl front! Btw, found a fantastic Dr Who magazine in Oxfam on same day as the records - a complete retrospective on all the TARGET books.
Nice set of finds James. I rarely have any luck on the rare occasions I pop into charity shops here. If I'm in a new town I will often check out Oxfam as they tend to have better titles, even if you have to pay a bit more. I'd forgotten about Live Rhymin, I should seek that out as the studio album is a favourite. I'll stick to boot sales and you do the charity shops...
Hiya James, firstly thanks again for your contest response even though we've chatted about it already. I have to admit I've not heard the Joe Cocker so may have to ask JB for one of his extensive spare copies of it. I've found Oxfam alot better lately it's more other charity shops hiking up their prices. Today I saw Rush albums in one for £30. Sorry that's totally over even record fair prices even for charity. Can't go wrong with a bit of Grace, one of the few artists to get away with 80s production. Cheers again and have a good weekend.

The only Joe Cocker album I think is good. I've been trying to find those Bonnie Raitt 70s album, but they have disappeared (as far as I can tell). It's a good Supertramp album (that, Crime and Breakfast is all anyone needs).
Ha Ha Ha! My copy of Mad Dogs & Englishmen couldn't be further from your multi fold out edition. Mine is a single disc Singapore pressing which is housed in the flimsiest of covers. I'm not sure if it's a bootleg, but it's not on Discogs.
Hi Hedley. I've frequently had that experience of watching someone show some amazing gatefold full of stickers and posters, and realising that my copy of the record is some crappy reissue. At least your copy is a Singapore bootleg, which surely has a certain cache/charm of its own.
Hi James - Sly Stone was a DJ for a spell in Los Angeles & had a predictability chaotic but excellent show. It was only once a week for 2 hours. I like Here Comes The 🌧 Again by Eurythmics & only prefer The City Never Sleeps from the previous album as my favourite track. Sound Affects is probably my favourite Jam LP at this point. Like the post punk touches on it. It's Aged well .
Hi David. Thanks for the info on Sly. I knew he'd had some kind of career in broadcasting. I really need to get his other records, but they never pop up in the UK. Agree about the post-punk flavour of Sound Affects - definitely The Jam at their most interesting.
Good morning James, from "Quite nice" to "Cor", that's quite the range there ;-) had my first couple of charity shop finds in a very long time the other day, ended up coming home with Ella Fitzgerald - Live In London on Pablo from around 1974 and then Yma Sumac - Voice Of The Xtabay, Capitol 70's pressing combining two of her early 1950's EP's. Both very clean condition. Couple of other things I might have grabbed including more Ella but those were in rougher shape. Think I've got that Joe Cocker about, a quite early thrift find for me though I find his style a little hoarse and shouty on the whole. Ah, Bob Springsteen, Bruce's lesser known brother. Haven't seen the Grace Jones before, not an artist I spot in the record shop bins all that often actually. I've had some early Bonnie Raitt albums (not that one), but suspect I've moved them on by now. Urubamba rings a bell, I do believe I have an eponymous LP by them, I recall reading about their connection to Paul Simon. Here Comes The Rain Again and Who's That Girl are probably my two favourite Eurythmics songs. Right, enjoy those - cheers!
Sounds like you're having some success Doug! The Lancaster Oxfam is definitely in my good books at the moment. I also hadn't seen that Grace Jones before, and it was strange synchronicity seeing Steve show it and then finding it the following week. But surely that is the essential magic of the VC. Don't know too much about Urubamba, but I have a Paul Simon biography so could look in there to find more info. Right, back to listening to Bob Springsteen and Bruce Dylan.
