There's a new record show in town. I found a few records there including a rare psychedelic classic, some mean garage rock, two Leons, a good witch, and another case of balls on a country album cover.
This video has it all: Warps, Cartoon Villains, Animal Balls, High School Auditoriums, Military Statues, Huge Ketchup Bottle, Superman and a Record Show. Well done friend. Charles
Love the White Witch stuff. The vocals aren't for everyone, but Ron Goedert was a master of voices. The tracks on this 2nd LP, 'Crystalize & Realize' & 'Walk On', almost sound like a different singer. There was almost a third WW LP, but most of those ideas found their way onto Ron Goedert's lone solo LP. Breaking All The Rules. Great episode!
Music Machine wete a great garage band known for the hit "Talk Talk". Sean Bonniwell was the singer and Keith Olson (popular producer) played bass. Had the album back in 1966 and now have the cd.
Robert, Should I ever run into you at a record show, clear the runway and prepare for landing my friend, because I'm coming in for a hug. In just this past year you have enlightened me to music I never knew existed. You have literally changed my life for the better.
Good stuff man!! On a Steely Dan kick today after enjoying your review of the inner sleeve of Aja! Gandalf I got around 20 years back for 300 bucks. Wrote Peter Sando who was the guitarist in the band who still plays acoustic sets today. Saw a video recently where he said the band broke up the year before that album came out. I need to still get a copy of the Music Machine. Also love your impression of the sound on Easter Everywhere from a previous video. Reminds me of my Dad years back doing his version of turkey gobble. Glad you found some good stuff!!!
Gandalf and The Music Machine , great one two punch to open your show Robert. I believe you like 45's and I have an original Original Sound 45 of The Music Machine doing Eagle Never Hunts The Fly. Killer stuff, highly recommended if you are not already aware. Cheers.
Two thumbs wayyyy up. Btw, Kudos to the BS Detector. As you have said. The more the BS the higher the prices. Good to seek you once again Robert! Big fan from Toronto Ontario, Canada.
Yeah, Gandalf did not get their due for sure with all those issues as you mentioned. I first heard those subtle dropouts while wearing headphones especially.
Robert thanks for the shout outs for the record show. I had to move the May show to the 7th of May. I missed that mother's day is the 14th of May. Looks like you got some fun stuff. Thanks so much for coming out and supporting. Really appreciate you!
Will be there! Cool finds! I need to hear the "Talk Talk" record. I had a friend who's two favorite artists were Slayer and Leon Redbone. Talk about dichotomy. Anyway, great videos my man!
In the booklet for the Sundazed reissue of Gandalf, they said that the distortion on the vocals is because they could not recreate the reverb effect the singer got from the band's PA in the studio, so they miked it.
The Music Machine is a good album but has too many covers. Their version of Hey Joe is quite good. Leon Russell really shines in the film Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
Hey Robert. One of my favourite RU-vid videos (Besides yours lol) is Leon Redbone with Scott Black on Cornett performing "Shine on Harvest Moon" in Nashville. The atmosphere he exudes in that performance is awesome and kind of hypnotic.
I got that Leon Russell album when it came out in 1970, it’s one of my favourites! He wrote Delta Lady, the song is about Rita Coolidge. As good as Joe Cockers imo!
Gandolf looks like something that would be in the dollar bin at the store downtown, because its not Beatles or Stones or anything that will sell. Still waiting to find another $100 album in those 64 milk crates. Last one was oddly a Roger Waters promo. How that got in there. Who knows, but i snagged it anyways. That stores been like that for years. Ive snagged so much insane stuff out of their dollar bins since they opened in the late 80s. Got quite nuts right before grunge hit, because you will only find Green Day and Offsprings first albums in the dollar bin. Once again, its not Pink Floyd or Iron Maiden or Slayer. No one will ever buy those Operation Ivy or Nirvana albums.
Dear Robert, your °Studiolight° is (and has always been) really superbad. Everytime you show an album into the camera, everybody can see absolutely NOTHING except totally darkness. But do not be afraid Robert, I still like your channel very much......😉🤟
@@RobertFithen Sorry, but this one was not really ment that seriously at all. .... (only a little bit). Your unique and friendly style of "presenation" is all that honestly matters to me. Simply like it. Thank you. ✌
Nice haul! I saw Leon Redbone live in the '90s at a small theater here in Raleigh. It was just him, a trumpet player, and a clarinet player. But man, they tore it up. Got to chat with him for a few minutes after the show, too. Such fun.
Robert, I love everything you put out, but I have to wonder how the man who went so far as to clone himself so you two could discuss things like Beatles vs Stones… has the most abrupt endings to his videos sometimes! Throw a transition wipe on there!! 😂 Sounds like a great show, and thank you so much for your wonderful videos!!
Tim Hardin was an a-ma-zing songwriter nonetheless. i discovered him with his Tim Hardin 2 record, just beautiful, and also The Nice (Keith Emerson) did a breathtaking cover of Hang On To A Dream.
You raise an interesting question. At one time, I had about 3k pieces, and I sold off the last of it about 15 years ago. I recently got bit by the bug again, and am shocked at the state of record prices today. I agree, I am not ever shelling out hundreds of dollars for a record again (RIP my first marriage), but the question is: what's your top end for any record? I've already hit $60+ after shipping, but I'm trying to stick under $30. What's your "fold" price? (this is for everyone, not just Robert)
I'm listening to my 1966 mono Music Machine Turns On and don't detect noticeable sibilance. That was a problem on a reissue of an Easybeats album I bought. Maybe remastering analogue is an occupation that not a lot are good at nowadays. [BTW the Asylum Choir's first album with Leon Russell is a riot and can usually be found for cheap!]
I went back to check my reissue copy of Gandalf and I'm pleased to say it's not warped, and I really don't notice an issue with sibilance. I've been to book fairs, but never a record show. Perhaps one day.
The sibilance was on the Music Machine record. I found out there are actually two different reissues of the Gandalf album. There was also an "unofficial" one that has the usual Capitol text on the top seam.
Wow, albums are a thing again? I have a few hundred left from my collection, just the better ones. Hmmmm, who would have thought? Where would I get an idea of what they are worth?
