I like Sonic Boom, but the prices definitely tend to be way over or way under, rarely spot on. Selling to them is equally hit or miss. They've offered me 5 cents each for records I know they would sell for $40 or more, but then other times they pay $5 for something I couldn't sell for $1 in my own shop. Overall, both buyers and sellers can come out ahead dealing with them but only if they're careful. Kops is the place to go for real bargains (and of course Play De Record, but only if you like a real crate digging experience - you've gotta have hours to kill in there.)

I thought U.K. prices were high ! Doing ‘the math’ I think that store is way more expensive, especially for pre owned. It’s become a wealthy persons hobby. The multiple colour variations they put out now is just designed to rinse the fans. The Q.C doesn’t match the price either. I wondered where you’d gone , it’s good to see you back.

I'm happy i stopped collecting vinyl back in 2010 & focused on buying CD's only. Now i have 90% of the albums i want from my favorite artists discography. I look forward to the day i reach 100% so i can stop wasting money on collecting. Easy to do, most of my favorite bands have broken up & i haven't gotten into new bands since 2015.

I remember days were you could spend a 100 bucks and have enough new records to listen to for a whole weekend. That´s not even that long ago, I recon. 10 Years maybe?! These prices got out of hand over the last 1-2 years. I have only seen this insane rise for new stuff though, for used records or albums that came out a while ago prices here are still as they were.

Feel so bad about this generation. When I was growing up there was a set price of 8.99. I went every week and was able to get a couple of 12"''s, 7"'s and full length records. Great time. Setting different prices leaves the door open for greed. Such a shame. I buy used for 1-5 bucks. I'm lucky to have those stores. Get new material on cd. Don't know if these companies are trying to kill it for the next best thing they want to promote. Who knows what goes on in their greedy little minds.

11:00 Vinyl record collecting has become very expensive, particularly for Millennials/GenZ's, which may even turn the majority of them off record collecting in the first place or cut their hobby short after just a couple of years. Even though vinyl has exploded in popularity, it could easily return to just being a small niche market or purely for the well-to-do and not for average, everyday people. Heck, over the past 25 years or more, I bought used records in great shape ranging in price from 50 cents to two or three bucks at thrift stores or $10 or less at used record stores or even taking advantage of dollar bins in stores or "Buy five records for $2.50". Those days seem to be over.
@TheVinylGuru
@TheVinylGuru 11 месяцев назад
I hope that because the wreckers are so expensive it’ll drive down the market a bit if people refused to buy it. That’s what happened with Adele’s new album 30, the prices sky shot down because they press the way too much and didn’t know what to do with it
@TorontoJon
@TorontoJon 11 месяцев назад
@@TheVinylGuru, yes, I hope the prices drop to more reasonable levels and it only makes sense or retailers are going to be stuck with a lot of unsold product if they're not careful.

Personally, I'm tired of the conversation in the VC about new vinyl collectors. They really don't care about deep diving into music history. Let them stand in line for the new Taylor Swift offering and maybe the used market will crash again and the rest of us can afford it again.
@TheVinylGuru
@TheVinylGuru 11 месяцев назад
I hear you but I don’t want to be too pessimistic because the new generation will further dictates the music market and industry to come. You don’t want to be too selfish in that. Your future is the future
@TheVinylGuru
@TheVinylGuru 11 месяцев назад
But trust me I get it, the less people by the less the prices will be sky high.
@Ctophermon
@Ctophermon 11 месяцев назад
I hear you, but I disagree. I think the thrill is already gone, and younger listeners are running out of money and patience. Especially once they have to start paying student loans again. Covid was a boon for the record industry, and their time is running out. I own what I love and am slowing down in purchases as well in my forties. I've been collecting since the 90s.
@TheVinylGuru
@TheVinylGuru 11 месяцев назад
@@Ctophermon have you been going to the record stores lately? Most people shopping there are under 35. In fact they wouldn’t be pressing these records if they didn’t sell. I’d give the younger generation a little bit more credibility than this. Do I understand what you’re talking about to though yes but I think the younger generation has more merit than that

I feel like the current climate of record shopping is an overpriced experience. Reissues $35-$59. Everything is repressed on colored vinyl. Everyone prices their records from Discogs. I’ve seen albums priced at over a hundred bucks and they stay on the record store wall for years 😂 I feel like everyone is trying to take advantage of you. And they are if you ate just starting out. The fun has really been sucked out of dggin. Its become lame.
