Watch as violence breaks out at an event to mark St George’s Day in central London on Tuesday 23 April.
A group of people pushed past Metropolitan Police officers and “violently forced their way through” as the force tried to contain the group within an allocated area near Whitehall.
Footage shows a number of people wearing St George’s flags pushing through a wall of police officers.
In a statement on social media, the Met Police said that they believed people planning to attend the rally included “far-right groups and groups linked to football clubs travelling from elsewhere in the UK”.
“Regrettably officers are already dealing with disorder,” a later statement, shared just after 2pm alongside the video, read.

the cenotaph was specifically cordoned off because they didnt want protestors interrupting the proceedings and disrupting the commemorations. That was because people were afraid the the Palestinian peace protesters who were due to march in a different part of London several hours later would somehow end up there. So instead a bunch of yobs saw that cordon intended to keep people away from the Cenotaph and police officers telling them no one not part of the ceremony could go there and decided it was an open invitation to wander in and drown out the sollom commemorations with football chants. If you're first response to being told by police you cant go somewhere is to push through and attack police in the prosses then whining and whingeing when you get some light batoning is just kinda pathetic. Take it on the chin like a real man or go home
