This was a rather dark episode. That conversation between Chase and the patient's wife around 3:50 ("People who are sick are not the only ones who need to be taken care of") sets up a later conversation wherein Chase tells Adams about having to take care of his alcoholic mother and infant sister when he was a teenager, and how, looking back, he wishes his mother had just used a gun to kill herself instead of a bottle, because it would have saved the family a lot of pain.
@notinthemoodfornames8033
@notinthemoodfornames8033 4 месяца назад
well dark or not its actually an useful message more people should be aware of. I'd love to live in a world where all the sick people are taken care of without causing huge problems for their loved ones, but we don't live in that world and I don't think we will anytime soon. So, given realistic situations, I'd definitely kill myself if I find out I have Alzheimer's (or most forms of life-threatening cancers). From an altruistic perspective, it's kinder to the families. From a selfish perspective, it avoids all sorts of terrible pain. Honestly I think people who don't do this are usually just not opened minded enough to think about the situation from a critical and objective perspective.
@ursaltydog
@ursaltydog 3 месяца назад
But yet, you rob your loved ones from those moments that can be had before it gets too dark, and thus is selfish to deny them that time. I've been a full-time caregiver three times over, and still am. Cancer, Cancer, Cancer, and ehlers-danlos. @@notinthemoodfornames8033 I believe I helped them have a more dignified and meaningful parting, knowing they weren't abandoned. My father begged for his gun so he could "clean it"... I knew better. Looked at him and he smiled, then looked away with a sigh.

I know my father came to get her and danced away with her. I dreamed he said” come on doll, dance with me. I’ve been waiting a long time”. And she giggled and said “ oh Frankie, ok”.
