"No, Let's Start All Over" documents a concert in London at the Lyceum, 1984.
Sorry about the adverts in the middle and the hammy 'creative' stuff in some of the songs but still worth it for some gems by one of the most underrated influential bands. Check 47:53='That's not Fair!' Makes me smile every time.

I was sat on the stage just left of Brian at this gig right in the corner of the stage...3 or 4 of us got up there half way through and nobody kicked us off so we just stayed sat there...one of the best gigs I ever went to and the Ramones played the Lyceum not long after this and that was a classic night too...I remember panicking a bit when Gordon started putting the mic in people's faces during the encore because I was new to this band at that time and I didn't know the words either, same as the poor cameraman

SO BADLY... Most people know melody of "Blister In The Sun", but they don't even know the name of the song, let alone the name of the band. I was introduced to this band by my parents' friends. They had the "Add It Up" compilation. On my 12th birthday, my best friend at the time got me that comp. I had never heard anything as dark as "Country Death Song" at the time. It still kinda of plagues me. Gordan Gano wrote a true American Gothic story, in the form of a song... The song still gives me goosebumps.

@@etclaussen Absolutely. They were know in Europe, as well. I live in Portugal and I got the band's homonym vinil in '88, when I was 15yo. I would agree in the grand scheme of things, though, the band's bassist Brian Ritchie is really underrated. Gordon Garon's lyrics are strong but, as far as I'm concerned, the bass carried all the weight of the band's haunting, intimate sound.

@@TranzparentMethods I had the Add It Up compilation too on cassette when I was just a wee little kid, and I played the heck out of that tape. I listened to that tape so much, going back and listening to the studio versions of some of those songs didn’t sound right anymore!!

@ccrc2822
@ccrc2822 7 лет назад
TheMuricanStig, sorry but I did not know this song until copy its title from the video description. I´m very crazy about Violent Femmes but not all their works. Besides no band could possible make more than one such good album as "Viva Wisconsin" (1999), so I don't care a thing about what came after :) "Viva Wisconsin" is one of the best albums ever made in music history, I never get tired of listening to it for for almost twenty years by now.
@MrBrodman98
@MrBrodman98 7 лет назад
ccrc2822 dang I really want to find that song, as far as my research has lead me to believe, its not on any of their album, and there self titled may be the greatest of all time in my opinion
@ccrc2822
@ccrc2822 7 лет назад
TheMuricanStig, at Wikipedia discography “Spiritual” only appears in track list of DVD album “No, Let’s Start Over” which is the very same video right above our comments here. As you notice by my words I'm not a native English speaker so I can’t tell you for sure but listening the video again that “spiritual” don’t sounds like a song lasting only 50 seconds. It is more like a religious speech merged as intro for the following “Confessions”. I also always had the self titled album as their very best, but “Viva Wisconsin” have almost all songs from that album in a such better live version with lots of horns and long instrumental sessions that makes very difficult to me listen studio versions with same vibe. If you are so crazy about get “spiritual” perhaps the only way will be extract it from the video above, for doing it you can count on me on needing.

This was a pleasant surprise! For years i've had this old rare USA fender bullet guitar from the early 80s. It was red/white when I got it. Now it's gunmetal grey/aluminum. His is probably the string through deluxe version. Mine's not. This is the first video i've seen with a pro playing one. This band kicked soo much ass when I saw them in mid 2000s. Now I definitely need to bust it out and learn a couple vf songs.

It's on youtube, just search for it, and it's from this concert, the missing piece! It may have been removed from the movie/concert because of profanity, or suggested profanity (rhymes with runt.)

Fun Fact - SAXAPHONIST to our LEFT is Steve MacKay who's outstanding horn work is a big part of the greatness that is the sophomore Stooges album Fun House! He did a fair number of tours and recordings with the Violent Femmes too. Steve performed live with the Femmes (who he played with on and off) for a couple of decades after he appeared on "The Blind Leading The Naked" album which was recorded in 1985. A bit of a different vibe...but, really awesome nonetheless. Steve also played with artists as diverse as Snakefinger, Andre Williams and, Commander Cody!!

I remember seeing them almost 26 years to the day, April 1, 1990 in Pittsburgh PA, USA. I wore a custom T-shirt that I had printed with the lyrics they put on the inner liner of the CD from their first album. Gordon actually asked me about it. Wish I'd gotten it signed but it's prolly dust now as I lost it decades ago. Kinda disappointed I didn't get to see them more than once (original lineup).

Shortly after the time Viva Wisconsin was released I was fortuitous enough to have a planned trip to Milwaukee coincide with a night the Femmes were playing Summerfest. Being their hometown I thought maybe 2ish hours'd be early enough to arrive & get a decent spot to stand. Not even close! Maybe twice I managed to see the top of Brian's head, & he's rather tall. They sounded awesome, & the set was pretty much ALL played acoustic and the songs were played in the Viva Wisconsin arrangements, but it's still the only show where I NEVER watched the band I'd intended to see. I was fairly pissy at 1st but they still made it a great time. Also, hearing George Thorogood & the Destroyers playing from their stage before and during the Femmes set between songs was pretty neat
