@@danadyd59 I also have family with bipolar, including a sibling. (Happy that schizophrenia wasn’t inherited). Schizophrenia is a special kind of hell without meds. Bipolar isn’t fun to watch, and I have memories of aunts with both. I don’t wish either of them on anyone.
I am a person with mental health issues that started showing up in my teens at which time I spent 6 months in a juvenile in-patient mental health program. It was an excellent program in the late 1970's and I was able to maintain and be stable until my later 20's. The second time, mental health treatment protocol had changed and the standard in-patient mental health time was 1 week (2010-17) and I was in and out several times because treatment protocol is inadequate. Mental health needs to change so much. I really appreciate Judge Boyd for her understanding and advocacy.
I'm sorry you've been experiencing mental health issues. As the daughter of a behavioral health I agree our mental health system fails those who need assistance. God bless
My ex has that mental health issues. Cruel is an understatement! Me and my ex mother- in-law (behind closed doors) we lived in a living hell‼️ My ex was extremely dangerous and I prevented him from harming his mom. Additionally, he stopped taking his meds, and refused to take his meds at all. That’s when I divorced him.
You can thank the Ron Reagan administration for the explosion of mental health cases, closure of hospitals and those with money are the only ones that can obtain mental health services
This DA's performance in court is worse than a 3yr old's at a talent show. Thankfully Judge body understands, the statement, "Not insane at the time the offence was committed"
Came here to say this ! Judge : “what do you have to say about the hospital releasing her before she was well?” DA: there’s three uhhh innocent victims she needs to be put in jail!” How about “hospital and medical staff needs to be held accountable for malpractice.”
This is really sad. My mother had schizophrenia. She believed my dad wanted to rape her and stab her to death. She tried to kill herself 3 times. I can't believe those doctors released her. Her parents should be have gone there and protested. Maybe they did. They need to apologize to the woman she stabbed and cover her medical bills. Our current society has forsaken the mentally ill.
I absolutely love this woman. She has broad experience and can make people appearing in front of her feel that, even though they've been charged with heinous crimes, she's empathetic enough to really listen to everything and deliver a carefully considered punishment.
My mother was schizophrenic and, for the most part, was non-violent, except for when she chased me around the sofa with a kitchen knife. Fun times. She was 75 at the time and I remember the incredible strength she had. She also frothed at the mouth, something I had never seen before- quite astonishing. She went on to spend 11 months in the local mental institution. Once released, after stabilisation, she was fine and lived peacefully, under supervision, until she died at the age of 88. What a dreadful condition. I still have the scars, both physical and mental. Flaxen Saxon.
WOW this was GREAT!!! Judge really had to weigh this one. Much more involved than most of her cases I've seen online. I wanted to hear more about the impact on the victim and victim's family during the hearing, so that the defendant, sane as she was determined to be, KNOWS the change of life conditions for the victim and family before sentencing.
This county that treated her and released her before they should have needs to be held fully accountable. Maybe then they will be more diligent in caring for their patients and making sure that they are stable enough to be out in society not causing harm and chaos to the public or themselves.
I thought the state didn't argue as effectively as the defence. However, JB still made a wise decision. The fact the criminal was quibbling over stabbing images?? Shows she does not grasp the situation at all. I'm so sorry for the innocent family caught up in her violence.
Judge Boyd's days are chock full of such varied issues. She bravely confronts them in all these videos, literally acting as society's parent. I'm going to have my college students debate the issue illustrated in this particular episode.
That's sure to be a very interesting and lively debate! I wish I could be there to experience it. I'd love to hear arguments from both sides from "fresh" perspectives.
She's in need of help. However, she first must take responsibility for what she's already done. Period. THEN get help. BTW, I am no stranger to mental illness.

As the daughter of a behavioral health expert my father for decades fought for better care. Most dont its harder to get out of a mental hospital than prison. This defense attorney needs to learn more about mental health issues. Nice statement Judge Boyd.
I'm a little peeved at the click bait title of this video. Nothing in the title is remotely correct. It's a woman with mental illness who was neglected by the system, commits a crime, and earns an apology from Judge Boyd on behalf of Bexar County before being sentenced. There is no lack of responsibility; there is no trouble in court. You're looking for subscribers and views and using sensationalized titles to get them. Have some integrity. Even though this case is not 'sensational' a better quality title of what truly happens would still get enough viewers. I think even knowing it's a Judge Boyd video would get viewers, simply because we enjoy watching her.
I enjoy watching Judge Boyd. Sooo many different User have her on their page & I've watched sooo many, I'm catching up on old ones tooo ... BUTTT ! she had me deeply concern at the way she was seemingly leaning toward that Criminal at first ... Prudent ! Professional ! Conscientious ! Concise & Always on point ... WHEW ! SERIOUSLY ! ! ! I'm sure everyone was on their toes in the court room & watching this Video lol🤣🤣🤣 Usually I peek at the comment before the end, but I didn't this time ... 🤔guess I'll keep watching her : )
No. The question is, how can we protect the people who she will harm if she is not locked up. If judge wants to revolutionise the system she should get into legislation. Here, now is not her job, not her place. Protect society, protect the child and mother from staking with a big knife and being stabbed in a parking lot.
“The safest place for everyone for her to be in prison” listen Judge and remember what your job is. You are stepping over the line. If you want to wage a crusade, don’t do it at the expense of the safety of kids.
I see officers getting ready to snatch her up to take her to prison. Score one for the State. In addition the Judge stated "I am going to recommend" serving time in a mental health unit RECOMMEND is the operative word.
Unfair of Judge to unload on prosecution. Not her fault she didn't release her. She trying to get best outcome for victim. Defendent knows right from wrong, she wrote a letter with reason. She knew enough to not read it for fear of cross. We need asylums.
She was let out and shouldn't have been. Her mental health problems make her extremely dangerous that's why she needs to be back in somewhere and prison is justice for the victim and a mental health facility treatment for her is helping her become stable while being inpatient in jail. I think Judge Boyd is very wise in understanding both issues and that there is no way after what happened she should be outpatient now.
The thing is the mental health people do their job and put these people on meds and then the people are turned out into the public and these people do not take their meds right if at all .
PS: To add to my previous comment, It is clearly evident that with her not taking her meds, she becomes a murderer and is a whole other situation to consider. She is in the extreme danger zone if she goes off her meds. Not all schizophrenics display that kind of murderous rampaging. That is the point here and Judge Boyd is bringing up great points but the case before her is not common for mentally ill patients. Proceed with great caution Judge because if she goes off those meds again and murderers someone loved ones because of a light sentence, you will be heard liable in a big way!
This is crazy. The state definitely dropped the ball. I swear, some of these states thrive on people being hurt. It’s just crazy they take zero accountability but shame a woman who’s obviously struggling with something.
The prosecutor is a mean girl all grown up. She's not seeing a human being in front of her, she just wants to get rid of her, into the system. Thank goodness for Judge Boyd and her wisdom.
Schizophrenia is a very sad but dangerous illness, I wonder if it's in you from childhood like autism or adhd, or does somthing trigger it, sorry for sounding stupid and thick but I'm genuinely interested???
The judge is really getting on my nerves how about stabbing innocent people who cares about her what about the innocent person are you the judge or her lawyer. So the judges doesn’t want to hear how the victims suffer
