I just binged this a few weeks ago. Barely she'd a single tear until episode 10 came and annihilated me. The most I've ever ugly cried while watching anime

violet evergreen the art of the ugly cry so true. Such a sad/heartwarming/sad realistic episode that everyone can relate to. That episode hits on so many levels. The craziest thing about this episode is there was no build up to the mom or daughter we literally met them in one episode and in 20 minutes as viewers we cared so much about them at the end. Amazing job by Kyoto animation for pulling that off.
weak. this anime is not that great if we talk about the whole thing. the main selling factor is only the visual. songs also not that good. the story in some parts also not good. Again, they mainly just sell the visual. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso so far still the best emotional romance anime series. the story, art, animation, music, even the sound effects too. BUT that episode 10 is sooooooooo good. Like.. on the same level with Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso.
I actually was holding up okay until Violet of all people start tearing up as well. Considering how well she's held her composure up to that point and how's she developed so much through these interactions with her clients, it was extremely disheartening to see her demeanor crack like that, even knowing she had to hold back all that time.
Disheartening? I think rather it was quite the opposite. It was one of the first few moments violet truly let her humanity take over. She was able to empathize so much with Ann because violet saw herself so clearly in her reflection. This moment brought tears to my eyes
This episode could've absolutely killed it if they'd showed us the final letter where the mom says goodbye and Anne realizes that this will be the last ever letter...but then again we ain't ready for that level of emotions
I've watched the entire series 8 times now and I literally start pre-crying at ep 9 just thinking about the oncoming ep 10. Episode 10 is literal instant depression, good for when you wanna get a good cry in.
It's crazy how you know almost immediately where the story is going and it still hits you hard in the end. And when you think they're done, they show Violet breaking down and the waterworks start again.
Violet crying and being like "I had to restrain myself from crying all the time" is them just -twisting the knife- no, they already did that, that's them ripping it out and throwing it to the sharks
there are so many reactions of grown-ass men crying to this episode, this is one of the best one by far. Now watch "A place further than the universe" to cry some more

When violet bursts into tears toward the end of episode 10, I'm just dead my emotional barrier was just annihilated in then to add insult to injury they hit you with the letters being delivered for every birthday at that point I was completely at the mercy of the episode just tears for days it was really heartwrenching.
I was laughing with you (since I already watched this a bazillion times), but then you started crying and I started crying again! On this episode, AGAIN. EXCELLENT
I have watched this episode in Spanish, English, and Japanese and they all hurt just the same. Violet Evergarden is a great emotional anime, and the fact that it’s slept on it’s crazy. Glad y’all fellas enjoy this anime!

Count to 50 now yep thats how many years she thought ahead. Thats how much she wanted to support her daughter trough al those years ful of hard times without her bieing there wishing her a happy birthday or just bieing there to support her. This is how much she cared about her. I wil never forget this.
That moment when you realise she wrote a letter for every birthday is what got me fr, then Violet saying she had to hold it all in. I was done for haha.
There's nothing wrong with crying, especially with an ep like this. I'm a 57 year old man (I was a few years younger when I first saw this ep) and I sat there with tears just streaming down my face. Even now, even watching other peoples' reactions to this episode, I can start crying.
This is very sad. But if you want to know what's sadder, if I was put in the same situation, I wouldn't be able to live up to every prediction my mother would write in the letters. If she predicted that I would find love at the age of 18, nope...
This (E10) was the second chapter of the novel. In that point of the book, we know almost zero about Violet other than her occupation and her mechanical behavior, but damn it was a tearjerker. That's how good the writing is. It's not a surprise that Taylor, who wasn't with us from the beginning of this ride, was brought to tears just as much as Sherm. Just as a homage to the author, her pen-name is Kana Akatsuki. Gotta say tho, that the anime will always get you better than the book will because it shows Violet develop as a character first, and therefore forcefully make us sympathize with her.
Yo I had to pause so many times during this episode...I watched it just a few hours ago too and even this reaction has me crying all over again... On another note it's cool I happened to pick up the show around the same time you guys are posting reactions to it haha I binged watched it starting yesterday and I wanted to see what was on youtube about it and your videos popped up. I've watched your other reactions and I went to look for the last episode reactions only to find this is the most recent one- usually I'm watching your videos weeks or months after you've posted them because I only just started getting back into anime at the end of last year haha
Episode 10 always makes me cry. It reminds me of how close I am with my mom and I bawl anytime I see it. Violet Evergarden has no right making me that emotional at 11: 56 PM 😭

You see stuff like this on TV an movies and it's meh. When it's in a anime it will make a grown ass man cry like a little bitch. I should know because I'm 35 an when I saw this episode when it came out It was kinda hard trying to hold back Niagra Falls with a sieve.
I was watching this episode alone so I didn't have someone to joke with before I was bawling and sniffling. But honestly, it's even not much better with friend since EVERYONE is just crying together lol
Please watch a silent voice! It also from kyoto animations and tells a really beautiful story of redemption and acceptance of oneself. Alos the art and music is amazing!
I literally keep coming back to this video cause y’all making jokes while crying was just so funny to me, like not much can genuinely make me laugh, most will only get a slight smile and head nod, go up a level I’ll just give a smile and say “haha” lightly. Mainly because I sound like i sobbing when I laugh and if anyone hears they immediately barge in and asking what’s wrong, my sister says it gives her a heart every time. So it’s just really hard to actually get me to laugh with my body and soul but this shit right here got me howling and laughing,or as those who actually hear me, sobbing and in the deepest throes of despair.
I was waiting for this cry fest! You guys did Taylor dirty with these episodes as his introduction to the anime, but it was interesting to see him cry over unknown characters. That speaks to the emotional power of this show! When a person can sympathize for characters without prior attachment & experience. I cried myself to headache when I first saw episode 10. Like I said before, Violet Evergarden was my anime of the year for 2018 & my favorite KyoAni show with Free being in second place.

Man, episode 10 is like that one car that you can't see coming and hits you HARD. If you can handle it watch maquia. Cried 10 minutes straight after it ended. For real.
@Lightning Star Sorry for late response. I do think maquia kinda rushed, but I don't see the point of going slower. You know? On the other topic your name, silent voice and GOTF was great. But I only cried to GOTF. I can't relate to the other 2. Plus, I was too mad at the bully during my first watch through of silent voice to get emotional.
