This show feels so different from any other anime I've seen. The style, the story, the characters... that's propably why I love it so much. If I had to describe it with one word, it would just be "beautiful".

The song that plays when Violet gets her brooch back is called, "Never Coming Back," and is probably my favorite song from the entire series. I have played it on repeat for more than a day and still never gotten tired of it.

Now I want to re-watch this anime. No matter how many times I watch this, I can't stop appreciating KyotoAnimation for creating this masterpiece.

By the end of the entire series you're gonna realize how Hodgins is that absolute GOAT. Such a legend lol.

One of the subtle touches I love, is that when Violet wants to feel something's texture, she holds it to her cheek or her lips. Since she can't feel with her hands. Unfortunately for us english speakers, there appears to be a slight translation error in that scene where Cataleya throws herself on Hodgins in the hallway, and every streaming source gets it wrong differently. (This is my understanding, I would love a native Japanese speaker to correct me if I am wrong): Hodgins' first name is Claudia, and Cataleya is saying how his parents were mean to give him a girl's name, and how odd it would feel/feels for her to shout a woman's name in bed (Oh Claudia!). Some subtitle sources and dubs seem to give the impression that Hodgins shouted another woman's name while he was in bed with Cataleya, and Cataleya is just being playfully annoyed at him for that. Which implies a whole different dynamic for both characters. Anyway, thanks for another great reaction. Looking forward to the rest. 😊

The iconic blue/white dress appears, visually Violet is perfect. I really like the interactions between the completely different 3 AMD girls. Its such a beautiful series, Kyoto Animation really outdid themselves with this anime, it came out just before the terrible fire and iirc some people who worked this passed away.

I dont think they want to tell her what happened to Gilbert yet because she's still in a very fragile state, even though on the surface it may look like she has herself put together so to speak, they're likely afraid that telling her now would just break her completely.

this show is so emotionally loaded, at the end when the boss started to quivver I too began to shed a tear.

This anime kind of changed my view of thought towards real life, simply the inner emotions that could be expressed through letters were shown here very perfectly. What I can tell, as you watch this series further (especially on Episode 7, 10 and 11), you can understand how beautifully this series has brought out the emotions of people through its story.

Gilbert's brother's name is Dietfried and is a Navy Captain while Gilbert is obviously a major in the Army 😅 and yeah Gilbert and Violet's first meeting is heartbreaking, especially bc shes super young then even though shes young in present time as well. It's just sad to see what shes been through already and shes not even an adult yet.

Fun fact: Claudia still has the two other plushies that he offered Violet on his desk. She picked the dog but he kept the cat and the bunny.

So it's never mentioned in the show or movies but here Violet's origin: the major's brother was somewhere on an island when his unit encountered Violet who lived like a wild child. She never met humans before and saw them as a danger (because they probably were). She ended up killing everybody except the major's brother. Having survived, he captured her, and as sort of revenge took her back with him to use her as a weapon.

Cattleya's name definitely tripped me up too - she's actually named after a type of orchid. It's pronounced "kat-lee-ah" with the accent on the first syllable, "kat" - I hope that helps if you'd rather not keep saying her last name.❤

I like to say I love your videos. I have kinda been putting this anime off. I am returned solider and I know how warzone PTSD can affect people. Me included but your community and yourself are put at ease. I am ready to tear up now

Fun fact before I forget, the language you see written on every letter in this show can actually be translated into English. It was created by running the real language of Tamil through a cipher. Fans have named this fictional language "Nunkish".

The thing about this show is that even when you see where an episode is going the emotions always find their way in. It's so understated and calm, yet powerful, that it's impossible to put up any resistance, I think. Also I forget which channel it was, but there was a guy who had a long interview with a veteran who had watched Violet Evergarden. The vet talked about all the post-war PTSD issues that the show deals with and confirmed just how real it all is. IIRC the show had him talking about things that he'd never even shared with his dad, which I think says a lot.

Aaaaand.....I'm tearing up by the end. I have only watched this season once, but, this story etched, carved, and burned itself into my soul. I even see Violet's face, on the right day, and my eyes will moisten. Roxy-tier anime.

I loved this series from the get-go, but some have criticised it for a slow start. I disagree, but things certainly do crank up emotionally, so get ready! The series and the subsequent movies are beautiful in every sense of the word!

Violet is a demigoddess abandoned in an island where Gilbert's brother acquires her, her fighting prowess, strength , speed and abilities are innate, it is in the Novels but is not explained in the show.

I think Violet's dress is so beautiful. I've been looking for the longest time for a royal blue dress of good quality to use as a base for a costume based on her outfit. So far everything I've found is cheaply sewed, or the wrong colour... I just don't have time to make it all from scratch, so I've no choice but search patiently for the right one. 🥲
