I saw a comment on this song explaining what “violets for roses” means and I found it really interesting: violets(blue) is her favorite color and roses(red) is the color of love, so by “you made me trade my violets for roses” she says he made her trade herself for love

This song really shows who Lana is personally. She's rich and famous but she stays humble. She dresses casually, she meets real people on the streets. She doesn't look down on anyone. Hasn't lost her curiosity and appreciation of the little things in life.

I don't think that love is unconditional. I mean, you have to give something away in order to receive something back (whether it is just your natural appealling, or love and caring, ... you have to do something for real). However, it doesn't mean that one side has to do it all. Instead, I believe that fairness (that both have to really do something) and embraceness of both to their relative true selves are the base of a healthy relationship.
