Violin Lesson - Tremelos 

Tremolo was invented by late 16th century composer Claudio Monteverdi [1][2] and, written as repeated sixteenth notes, used for the stile concitato effects in Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda.

What would be a good exercise to practice tremolo? I started out using my wrist then always unconsciously shift to using arm, then after 2-4 measures my arm locks up lol

My problem is that i can't move my wrist individually from my arm. I can't get the bow to move smoothly up and down using only my wrist. This frustrating because i have a piece i'm playing in October that has tremelos in it and it's the first time i've done it.

@Julietteisme its tremolo. its latin root also evolved into the modern word tremor (that's tremOr with an O ) hence the similarity in definition. (Tremor: a rapid shaking of some sort, be it a small earthquake or a muscle contraction Tremolo: a note repeated in rapid alteration)

@Moniqueuniquefreak It depends on the dynamic. If it's soft, play tremolo at the TIP. If it's loud, then play it in the middle bow. In orchestra playing, when there's loud tremolo, trust me, playing at the middle bow won't sound like shit, because everyone will be playing tremolo this way and it will just sound very loud altogether.

i was also told that if u have shorter arms, u need to move out to the middle a little but not too much. for longer arms u need to be close to the tip.

I don't even play violin but I can tell she is a great teacher
