I love Catch! I love Release too! The sound you make when you Catch and then release can be incredible - On chords it is magestic! You never have to worry about sound production at the very contact points when you catch and release - the sound just grows out and builds up. You can do it pianissimo or even fortissimo. The alternative is just 'bowing' and making sounds by accident which don't help build up the musical structure and your musical intentions.
Ye but Tchaikovsky is very technical and its a waste if he cannot play with correct posture this is pretty common to happy with masterclasses and such... he is probably disappointed but in the end he'll be thanking Mr Zukerman :P
this is really amazing, how much work they have to put in, just for 3 notes but I think its the most useful video if you want to practice Tchaivkovsky's violin concerto mvt 3 . Does anyone know any more videos like this? Especially on tchaikovsky and sibelius?
The student's posture is wrong, his head position is very fwd leaning, he has bad habit for a long time therefore his neck has developed an awkward support system as the default. IMO, Zuckerman's effort in correcting him is treating the symptoms, not the root cause. Even if the student adopts the correction, his muscular memory will bring right back to the original position, like in the prev video the same pupil couldn't extend his right arm, no matter how many times Zuckerman says "out"
This kid is so disrespectful. I saw him talk back to the Maestro and say he felt uncomfortable focusing on bow arm and posture. He has no patience when it comes to practicing.
I play classical music and deeply appreciate musicians but have zero respect for such disgraceful and racist ones. Zukerman must stop making culturally insensitive and ignorant remarks to young musicians who are Asian or Asian descendants.
