Fun fact: My Time wasn't composed for Omori, it's just an extremely good and fitting song made by a British musician bo en, which was used in the first trailer for Omori (2014!), and then later in-game. The Omori version of the song is slightly sped-up/pitched-up to be even cuter sounding. bo en later actually composed a few original tracks for the game though, and they're bangers!

Oh I had chills in the whole OMORI part, almost cried ! Gorgeous improv there. What you said at 19:45 was EXTREMELY ON POINT. It's not confirmed by the composer, but it's widely believed some of the sounds used here are meant to be voices in distorted memories, a traumatic memory to be precise. Which would be why some of the sounds suddenly peak and growl, as some of them are shouts, argument, screams... and thuds. Obviously I'm not gonna spoil what this is, but if you want a little bit of context, imagine someone repressing trauma and it comes back all at once, and you have only 2 options : stand down and give into it, or grow to move forwards with it. It's going to be excruciating to fight back the urge to give up and to face everything you've been fearing so much you needed to bury it. And that's where the dread, panic and anguish of those crazy sounds come in. This video does much better with the cuts by the way ! I don't mind it being longer at all, this is great !
@colony30sshittyproudbanner
@colony30sshittyproudbanner Год назад
Yeah, the memory part seems right on. Plus it amplifies the past experience by a lot and (spoiler warning) It's almost like the distorted part is Omori trying to fight against Sunny, who is the violin. The violin is constantly throughout, but the distortion is obviously trying to overpower and throw off with it's violent and alien-esq noises

To me, "ALTER" is the pure embodiment of anxiety in musical form. Especially following "OMORI," since the latter leads into the former, it takes such a somber ambience and practically tries tearing it apart. I can't explain it easily, especially without diving into spoiler territory, but holy hell, those two tracks together are one of my favorite pieces of video game music of all time.

Omori is an absolutely incredibly game, and if you have the time to play it at some point, going in blind is ideal! I simply don't have it in me to spoil/answer any of your questions if you have any interest in checking it out. Your analyses and impromptu accompaniments are an absolute joy to watch! The chord progression in See You Tomorrow is an absolute work of art. It Means Everything hits hard, and although you haven't reacted to it, By Your Side is probably my favorite piece - the vibe of it shifts every time you hear it, I swear. 💛
@xXTheKingEmothXx
@xXTheKingEmothXx Год назад
I always took Omori Alter to be the screaming outrage of emotion beneath the somber heartbreak breaking through, like when you're so sad and depressed, that you start to catastrophize and degrade and everything starts to crumble. It always gives me this feeling of scream-crying.

19:44 about the voice part: SPOILERS within the community, it has been theorized quite enough that the "voices" you are hearing are actually Mari's cries of despair, telling Sunny to stop as he's getting violent towards her. Keep in mind that the scene probably takes place during the "incident" as you can even hear phrases like "no" or "stop it" which actually make quite sense given the context of the game.

0:55 Dang, that was pretty close to the actual vioolin-only rendition until that specific note :) 1:34 BETTER THAN GOLDENVENGEANCE! 4:50 This one is literally a retrain of Moog City and Moog City 2 from Minecraft but with a spacy tone and chiller leitmotif. One you can hear again in one other very tense song later 6:06 Voted on the top 5 best songs in the whole game, nothing says conflict like this piece. Filename is . . . . "anxiety". +40, that's also what I thought. The image that always comes to my head is that deranged head-tilt that anime villains do when extremely mad, with a weapon hanging to their side :) 10:34 Yooooo! I didn't know that! I'll be sure to update the databases when I get access 13:32 That explanation works in like 9 different levels for the part where this plays but I dare not say a single thing further on it, not even beyond a spoiler tag. If you know, you know. 15:44 Fun fact, the blurry fence in the background there is the game's title 17:50 Even more relevant in ways unexplainable without major spoilers. I love when composers deduce such from music, especially with Omori and Undertale 21:11 This composer made 4 tracks for the project. This is the first song that anyone ever heard for the game, and was the music for the first trailer, which lacked almost all spoilers. In that trailer, everything from the first Oyasumi to the second Oyasumi segment is cut, which kinda destroys the song. Otherwise an amazing piece. also, the composer confirmed that this song (from his album Pale Machine) is about . . Sleep. In my interpretation, that feeling you get when you are on your phone at night hating yourself for not going to sleep this instant so you can work tomorrow :). Sick video 21:48 "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 minutes." + "There's nothing I want more than to sleep. But the world won't allow it/But I can't, it's words" idk which of the two 22:10 "Have, a, good, night" or "Go, now, to, sleep". Ever notice how it's much easier to translate japanese songs into Spanish than it is to translate them to english? The syllabics (I think that's how it's called) fit much better. "Bue-nas, no-ches" 22:50 That can translate to "nothing to be done about it", but here "So be it/No matter" fits better. Easier in spanish 23:03 Wait up it gets Venice-like. 24:15 I love it because it's just what your wandering brain feels like at 2 AM

I have other songs I like better than OMORI, but one thing I can say for sure, OMORI is the most emotional piece I have ever heard in my entire life, and as someone who has played instruments since I was 6 for 11 years now, that means something. Also, I count OMORI - ALTER as just and add on to OMORI, and I can say with 100% certainty I have never heard anything like that ending, those harsh, angry, glitchy effects that completely contrast the melancholic violins and violas in the background. Truly the best song I have ever heard, not my favorite, but 100% the best. Oh ya, also 🎻

The song “OMORI” and “ALTER” the extension made me cry in the game just as much as the final duet did. It has so much meaning and weight and it’s just so sad and I was crying so much and every time I listen to it I cry at least a bit 😭 very VERY important part of the game btw :)

i saw and heard it means everything. and i got so insanely excited ah yes, the theme of fighting a childhood friend in their church(while theres a sermon happening) i was trying to remember when the distortion started getting intense for omori/alter and i had said to myself "no hold on im pretty sure the coughing and falling down stairs starts before alter" i didnt know how much i needed an acoustic guitar cover of my time until now

19:44 pretty sure this is supposed to be the most important argument in the game but distorted to sound like a bitcrusher, not confirmed but its how i interpreted it. Very interesting that you could hear it too.

The fact that he basically described the scene the Omori song is used in without ever playing the game is honestly incredible. A song of unresolved weight at the conclusion of the story.

It was absolutely a blast watching My Time throw you for a loop over and over. It's definitely a style potpourri, and the chaos, as you can tell, is _delicious._ With that, combined with the context of the song in-game, it's small wonder Omori fans can't forget it~

When you mention the part about how it's almost like a human voice speaking gibberish, it's actually kind of like that. You can actually sorta hear "Stop it!" which has to do with the events in the game.

God the sound track for this game is genuinely so powerful. It hits whether or not you've played the game, which is impressive. You playing along with the songs, especially Omori, was so beautiful and added an extra layer to an already gorgeous song

When I heard you play along with the ost OMORI, I instantly thought of it as a counter. How it is the cry, the opposing force that fights back the negativity of the battle against OMORI in the game itself. I just imagine it being how when Sunny uses the skill Cherish, and remembering the words of his friends, he fights back. He gets the courage to overpower OMORI and realizes that there's a reason to keep going, there is a reason to live. I'd definitely would love to see a cover with the soundtrack! You play beautifully. 💕

To me the disortion in the “omori” track is the “ennemy’s” regret, despair and pain of losing everything (the enemy being immaterial, one yet everything and everywhere, cherished yet painful)

You mentioned for the mixing of the Omori alter soundtrack that it almost sounded like human voices. Fun thing is, many believe that it may actually be an extremely distorted audio track hidden beneath all the distorted percussion. I won’t spoil what people theorize the audio is of, but it’s so much more heartbreaking and meaningful if it really is what many theorize.

Omori has hands-down my favorite soundtrack in any video game. The level of emotion in it, even the little less-important more ambient tracks created a level of immersion that made the emotional beats and the climax of the game resonate in such visceral ways. The "omori" track and it's alternate gives me chills every time and brings me back to exactly the moment I first played the battle it is in. Anyways time to go cry

At 19:35 when you say it sounds like you could almost hear voices, I’m pretty sure it’s actually supposed to be glitched out voices or sound like voices on purpose for reasons in the game that include MAJOR spoilers so I can’t say but yeah it’s really cool you pointed that out!

I love the way you react to every song and you never seem to get tired of showing how you feel. You are a great reactor, and you do an amazing job in explaining the way you are feeling and your perspective on the music and what you learned about it and what it reminds you of and why it is great. You are awesome. Also I've never heard of a metal violin but hell yeah. Btw the song "see you tomorrow", reminds me of early final fantasy, specifically final fantasy 7 or 8, and also kingdom hearts. Those games have many soundtracks that have a very similar rhythm and tone and nostalgic melody. :) The moment i heard that song those games came to mind, and when you mentioned final fantasy i knew i wasn't the only one who thought this!!!!

@@LionmightOfficial i am so glad you like what i had to say. You deserve it!!! I haven't seen your channel in many years, i remember you where very popular many years ago for your game music covers. I'm glad you are back on my radar and showing love to the games i love so much and not only that but giving so many deep explanations that i can easily relate too and even have little realisations from how clever your analyzing is. I hope you eventually get to play Omori soon. I know you are doing these so you can listen to the songs blind and in a way that isn't riddled with all the extra context attached to them, so you can focus on the piece itself instead of the mental images attached to it. That's a clever method to be unbiased when listening. I highly recommend listening to the "One shot" soundtrack. It's in my opinion, the first real introduction to a meta rpg adventure game, and has a powerful message and story. It was one of the big inspirations for Undertale, which also had huge meta elements. But one shot does it in a very big way. The music for that game is absolutely serene and gorgeous and i highly suggest listening and reacting to it. I haven't seen people talk about that game since it came out a couple years before Undertale. I hope you give one shot, a "shot" ;)
