Violins Violas Cellos Double Basses - Designed in Italy
More Info: animato.com.au/
These string instruments are designed in Italy by Stradivarius, and they are masterfully hand-crafted in China by skilled workers. Whereas an original 'Strad' costs millions of dollars, these replicas are very affordable.

I really don't think these luthiers get enough credit. They work together as a team efficiently to build instruments, and there were clearly no factory-built items. These are kind people building beautiful instruments.

Without them the poorest can not afford a violin. Cheap violins do not mean terrible sound. Even a honest Violin luthier would resort to better to best setups to improve the violin's sound. ~ Too many people are fixated on PERFECT GODLY SOUND. ~ I salute the companies who pays the skilled workers or makers to produce the world a string instruments.

So nice to know that the old ways of making instruments is alive and well! I would love to know more about traditional chinese woodworking and their tools, part of why it is nice to see videos like this. May be italian designs but quite a few of those tools and saws are local. Thanks for posting this video.

Funny thing is that these violins probably sound as good as a real Strad but the name and place of origin create a perceived magic that may or may not be real.

The comments from people show some ignorance. Do they think that Stradivarius did all the work himself? No, he had a shop full of apprentices doing work according to their skill. He likely added the secret touches, at night, when no one was around, that made his instruments extraordinary. He also had access to the best wood. How many children in schools or poor parents will be able to learn violin because they have access to an affordable instrument? Kudos to the Aussies who organized this Chinese workshop! I would also snidely suggest that the detractors below buy their children a Stradivarius for their first instrument.

The workers didn't seem to be exploited to me, quite the opposite in fact, there is a distinct look of job satisfaction about them. Something you don't see here in the west too often.

They don't look that unhappy to me. Of course they aren't building instruments to compete with Cremona but they seem pretty good at what they do; making pieces that we mere mortals can afford. Nothing wrong with that. I'm really impressed with the lady sawing out the f holes.

People need, chairs, tables, cabinets or nice carved wooden boxes to, and probably even would pay more for those. Just please, please leave the instruments to instrument makers.

Being in business I realize that consumers try to get the best possible product at the lowest possible price. This makes sense to anyone who is budget-conscious. Those who criticize lower wages are probably trying to get the best deal at all times. By the way, the Chinese government enforced several pay rises during the past 2 years, and Western customers will need to get used to the idea that Chinese products won't remain as affordable as they used to be.

The violin is not a traditional musical instrument in China; the equivilant is the 2-string Er-Hu. For violins to made in China the design would therefore have needed to have come from somewhere else. The violin originated in N Italy in the mid 16th century, and the basic design and construction has been copied by makers worldwide ever since, includng in China.

I happened to visit the workshop when taking the video. Should you find time to do so yourself you may find that it is not a sweat shop. I hope the video is proof of this. The people did not know that I was coming to take a video, so nothing in the video has been set up for this purpose. The smiles in the faces are natural smiles, and the child, doing its school home work at the table is not working for the business.

Dietrich Lasa Baloney. Conditions might have been a little less “sweat-sloppy” than other hellholes in China but did you happen to discuss pay levels with these folks ? Chances are 5 yrs ago the typical craftsman in China was earning less than $1/hr. That is human slavery in my book.

+JasTx of Planet Earth That is correct. The violins were designed in Italy 300 years ago. Anyone making violins today uses Italian designs, whether the maker lives in Europe of Asia. The question is less where the violins come from, it is more a question of how close they are to the original Italian designs.

What instrument brand is this? I have a Cecelio I got for 50 dollars (I think) on E-bay in "broken" condition. Got the 2 dollar replacement fine tuner to fix it and it's beautiful! I knew it was an Asian made one, but after watching this video, I feel like it was made by actual craftsmen and women.

People have preconceptions. If they remove all the smoke and look carefully, they'll see that these people are doing honest jobs. Also, the dollar have undergone substantial inflation, so something like a five dollar a day wage from some other part of the world can buy more stuff than you'd expect.

whats the point of it being made in italy if Italians arent crafting them??

Well that's all a matter of opinion, but isn't really relating to my point.
@AnimatoStrings
@AnimatoStrings 8 лет назад
Italians (Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri) made the designs that are still used today by most makes, irrespective of the country they live in. So the point is that most makers use the Italian violins as a blueprint that were made in Italy 300 years ago. In my opinion the idea where they are made these days is less important than the quality of a fine violin. There are still many Italian violin makers, but you probably would not want to spend the money to buy one from there. If you have the money, then buy one from Italy. If you don't then you can still enjoy a beautiful sound for a much small investment.
@KM-px8cs
@KM-px8cs 8 лет назад
First of all I never even said it mattered where they were made, my main point is that it isn't Italians who are making them...therefore they are just like any other Chinese made instrument...defeating the title given too them of being "Italian crafted".......Here's a analogy for you: If someone wants a authentic Spanish dish but they go too the restaurant and the food is being made by people from Ireland...then is it really a authentic quality Spanish meal?
@AnimatoStrings
@AnimatoStrings 8 лет назад
This video refers to violins that were designed in Italy. It doesn't mention 'made' or 'crafted' in Italy. For example, these days, most shoes that are designed in Italy, are made in China. This is so because consumers want to pay as little as possible for as much quality as possible.

A real luthier in each cut he does ... he knows what is doing....I don´t think they know what they are doing over there. A instrument like violine stradivarius is not handycraft... it´s an art that leads to excelente music..... But I would like to have one like that: - To put in my near my fireplace.....LOL
