This is pretty interesting to watch if you're familiar with his '97 Modern Drummer Festival performance of this track. The evolution in his playing over that time is staggering, most players never reach anything like the level he was at in this video here, but by the time the 97MDF rolled around, he was just at another level altogether, it was clear he was out in a realm entirely on his own, a realm that remains still largely un-breached, even to this day, 15 years on.
It all comes down to what finish looks the best to you. When You spend over 1200 bucks, you can make your kit sound however the hell you want to with tuning. Premier, Tama, DW, Pearl, ect....they're used in all styles, you can make all those drums sound eargasmic. After that, it comes down to how good are your mics.
haha that's kind of why I am thinking premier ... cause DW IS expensive for no other reason beside the fact that it can be expensive. I've got money saved up and depending on what I buy i can get more drums or drums with cymbals vs strictly the bare minimum as far as only shells go. Either way I"d have to play it to know
Premier is top of the line shit man. If anything he's gotten better mixing/mastering guys since the 90's. Hard to say... Grant Collins used a Pearl kit on Interactive. DW you can't go wrong... one thing is they're all expensive.
yeah that's what i think too ... it's funny cause ever since he signed with Pearl the drums never sounded as good. I feel like it mostly has to do with mixing and mastering but if I can get a Premier that sounds like OTV then I'll get that instead of a DW
Sometimes it's a bit boring to see Virgil drumming. He's so advanced technically that the things he does goes unnoticed! But it's an excellent video! Thank you!
It never fails, does it? An awesome display of drumming control and power ruined at the end by some masturbating director who insists on putting slo-mo footage in. This performance doesn't need it at all - honestly, a guy of Virgil's dedication and talent deserves better.
