I'm currently recovering from ACL surgery so this video was particularly meaningful. Virgil is a class act.

VVD raises the confidence level of his teammates and strikes fear in the opponents. He peaked quite late, as he had health problems in his early 20's. Very unfair to see him miss one whole year of football because of a reckless fool.

He's back and is ready to tear up the league.

I've been going the game, home and away for 32 years and this fella is the best Centre Half I've seen at our club. My Dad always said "Hansen and Lawrenson are the best son" now I can say "Virgil is the best son".

I've just been told today that I've completely ruptured my ACL. I did it on the weekend playing soccer. Hopefully a speedy recovery, its nice to see I'm not alone

I had ACL reconstruction just 3 weeks ago and like the man says, the realisation that you've suddenly gone from very active (climber, mountaineer, cyclist, runner) to doing nothing is tough... and then finding out post-op that you still can't do much for 12 weeks until the graft is strong and ready... it's frustrating and hard to take but it's inspirational to see how our heroes share the same difficulties and how resilience gets them and us through. Hope to do a stadium tour in October and then watch a game from the Sir Kenny stand so I can witness in person his recovery and the benefits of resilience :)

I was in a dark place when I was recovering, but I kept my head up and stuck with the team. I was elected captain the next year. We grow from the hardships.. just like Virgil did. YNWA

Best defender I have ever seen. And I know people throw things like that around about all the big players of the day. But with VVD it's absolutely true. He has absolutely everything. The way he calmly deals with every situation thrown his way and 99 times out of 100 comes out on top with class and elegance is an absolute joy to watch. I've watched him deal with 2 v 1 situations on several occasions and there's not a moment where you think he's not got it under control. That is amazing. Astounding. He's the only defender who I have consistently looked forward to watching in a game more than any striker or attacker. He is the best. Makes the game look ridiculously easy.
