Virginia Port Police Try To Stop My Delivery Of Air Force Striker Fire Truck [Deliver Anyway]

VA Port Police higher ups get mad when we call to get paperwork issues straightened out. Because one "Captain" got mad, he wouldn't allow me to hire a Twic Escort to get on the port. I was told by VA Port Authority Police to hire a random driver (that I didn't know), (cash) to take a $1,000,000.00 fire truck with no training on how to operate my RGN or having a truck capable to detach the trailer from the goose neck. This was done to punish my company for calling to solve problems. I could not leave with the truck as there were no permits to leave once I arrived, and I couldn't stay on site until the next day. Thus I was in a bind. If the delivery wasn't made the truck would miss its voyage. I don't think they wanted that responsibility in the end. And I wasn't going to let just some random driver take the load and potentially damage or destroy it.

My uncle was a firefighter for 30 years in Florida. Back in the 2000s there was a truck that was carrying military explosives that got into an accident and had a small fire. Shut the whole interstate down on both sides for miles cause...explosives. Local Fire roll, State Troopers set up road blocks. They had to contact EOD from Patrick AFB to roll out there as well as some DoD suit. Anyway EOD said that fire had to stay on scene and hose down the munitions continously for the next 12 hours before the could assess how to proceed to handle them. State Trooper being the highest authority on scene (minus the EOD and fed) says that's not happening, he's got to get this interstate open and rolling. DoD suit says that's not happening. Pisses off State Trooper. Trooper responds something to the affect of " I have orders from the governor of the state (Jeb Bush) to get this interstate open" to which the suit replies "well his brother (President Bush) says I can keep the interstate shut down for the next 24hrs" conversation ended and fire was there for the 12hrs 🤣

I had a security guard at a gated community with a golf course see my dog sleeping in the passenger seat of my truck and try to refuse to let me on the property. We argued for about 3 minutes when I told him I'll dump the whole load at his gate then drive through his gate do my U-turn and drive back through the exit gate because I own my truck nobody's taking it from me. Then started to lift my trailer. My trailer got about 2 ft up and all of a sudden his gate opened up. When my dispatch called me I told them exactly what happened and they laughed. They told me for some reason that guy is always a pain in the ass. We're just trying to deliver sand to a damn golf course. Why make life miserable.

Get over whatever problem you have or I contact my contact number. The food chain for this load ultimately goes to Homeland Security. You don't want them talking to your boss. Years ago I was casting around for a return load to my home area. I found one that required _this, and that and the other_ to be done to my truck (basically cleaning to a certain standard) that I performed onsite to the satisfaction of the loading supervisor. Eventually he approached me and declared it was too late for loading to happen, and that I would have to return on the following day. My response was along the lines of "OK, but you'll be in hospital by then." He had me fully loaded in less than an hour with all paperwork made out and just waiting for my signature. He even offered to personally help me rope and sheet it all. I respectfully declined and was home, cuddled in bed with my wife, inside my working hours that day!

Here's some insight on the air force fire truck it's a ARFF truck ( it's built specifically for fighting aircraft fires) so it's got booms and Piercing nozzles with boat loads of foam and fire can be fought from inside the cab because the nozzles and booms are electronic and the firefighters PPE that's assigned to those trucks is different than what we on your neighborhood fire departments wear their gear looks like it's wrapped in aluminum foil but it is built to withstand and push away more heat than our normal turnout gear

Portsmouth has the navy yard and for years the Military has been their cash cow for years. Norfolk tried to chase the navy out in the 1980's. Base Co called everyone in for 2 weeks arranged for EVERYONE to be paid in $2 bills. Communities realized where the money in the town came from really quick. Just as during Desert Shield/storm many businesses failed from most of the fleets being gone almost 9 months.

That was some awesome petty revenge with the 2 dollar bills. Smart commander . People are stupid and dont realize how much money a certain thing actually brings into the area . A military base (people live there and have relatives that visit ) or even a concert venue. Some idiot gets a bug up their butt and doesnt like the band that plays there so they want it shut down. Not understanding economics and how much those ppl attending the concert (or visiting the base) spend locally to keep smaller businesses alive. Similiar things happen in our community...(smaller rural area but near a major hwy) The set in their way folks dont want new things to come in because ...oh no , traffic>>>yeesh The economy is bad enough..it needs fresh blood so to speak.

A friend of mine who's wife is from Germany, told me that her siblings said most of the bars and restaurants closed up after the U.S. Army unit stationed in her hometown returned to it's home garrison in Texas. There's even towns here in the USA ,that basically dried up after major base closings in the 90's. You arrived at one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. My husband drives by it frequently on his trip to work and home. It was interesting to see it from a trucker's view. Portsmouth is one of the rudest cities in VA when it comes to authority. I prefer the rural communities. Sorry for the bad treatment. Glad you were able to find some decent people who helped you. Former USAF Firefighter here. That Oshkosh Striker is the bomb! We drove the P-2 and P-4. My daughter is getting her CDL + Hazmat. I'm so proud of her. She said she wanted a working 'person's' job, a profession. No college for her. Just like her Dad! I have 2 degrees, never used them. I taught math and science in braille to vision impaired highschoolers. Hated my colleagues. I quit 2004. Never looked back. Trucking is a profession and lifestyle. I love it.

When I was stationed at Grissom AFB IN, we had an air show scheduled for the next day. The fire department was out by the taxiway shooting water high in the sky with two truck mounted nozzles. For some reason, a helicopter decided to fly thru the spray, which caused him to flame out, and make an immediate emergency landing. The first truck left, and a second truck came out for the emergency.

I would presume doing oversized/overlength work, that an old school cabover is an advantage as to overall length, somewhat easier to do tight turns especially in urban areas. Got to love the old school truck, no DEF, nice sounding engine, simple with none of the crazy electronic stuff to fail, and does the job. Of course you got to love the bureaucracy of anything to do with government, the left hand not knowing what the right is doing, eating on your nerves and log time.

I spent the first 10 years of my life in Portsmouth, I drove a cab over on my first long distance trucking job, I have been through that scale many times, and I hauled a few loads of asphalt to the tunnel when they paved the inside. Good video as always. Stay safe and thanks for taking us with you. Also, I know only too well the problems that can be encountered at shipping or receiving. Retired now and not missing certain aspects of trucking. That was some good detective work you did to get that truck delivered.

You do what you go to do to take that load off the trailer. Their is all ways a boss over another boss that want to stall the unloading process of all vehicle ( Air Force Striker Fire Truck). But lots of phone calls and talking to people does pays off to try to get to the main person to get that load or its sitting their for a while for the next ship to come get it. So much leg work you got to do to get thing done. As well, everything much be on paper. Be safe out their and keep on trucking.

It was even there before the Flying J on the opposite side (back when Pilot and Flying J were separate companies). In addition, where you're turning right was the original intersection itself with a traffic light and everything. On the Original Pilot/Love's side it was a pain because cars would be trying to turn left out of the Car Parking literal feet from the traffic light itself. That is part of the reason why they overhauled that entire intersection / area to how it's setup now.

@prevost8686
@prevost8686 2 года назад
@@thanors2 If you don’t have a TWIC or it’s expired you don’t get in. I can’t speak for Norfolk but the ports in NC will require you to get out and go in their office and check your identity and then issue you a temporary pass which gets you in the gate. After dropping your equipment/ personnel you must turn the temporary pass back in as you go out the gates. The closest TWIC office from me to get a pass is a 120 mile round trip and you must have an appointment before you go. We transport a lot of military equipment/ personnel from bases to ports to be put on ships and it’s always a hassle because most drivers don’t have a TWIC card. Whoever the officer in charge is has to accompany the driver to the port security office and wait for the driver’s security check to go through before going into the gate. Security at ports is higher than the security on many military bases.
@dieseldawg9144
@dieseldawg9144 2 года назад
The twic card wasn’t the issue, it was a paperwork issue at the port, they didn’t have a landing number for the oshkosh. So Steves dispatcher or whoever tried to call and get it straightened out, and the port police got involved for some reason.
