Dead sirs, I was the singer in this Nabucco. It was 2001 and I sang other operas before that. I was 34 Yeats old...not so young! That was a technic lesson from the great Zeani and she teach me many things I used in all my roles. I think that It Is possible to do a honest idea about a voice, only alter heared It live on stage! Virginia Zeani is a magnificent teacher and you can see her living every phrase with the gifted student. She was always a very generous performer and as a teacher she loves to share her knowledge and technique. She is also quick to praise whenever good things are achieved. People are being way too critical of the student (Stefania) to the point of being unreasonable. This was a masterclass. The point is to present a work-in-progress, not a finished product. She was still working some things out. She made some choices here that I wouldn't make, but she had the voice for Abigaille, and she was already doing many things very well. Is no one noticing how good the High C-Low C plunge is, and how much the top gleams? I also think that Zeani conducted the class very well and gave pointed, digestible suggestions which Stefania for the most part absorbed very quickly.
Probably Zeani never sang this aria, but she shows the clearer idea of the drama than the student. I know that this aria is extremely difficult, but I wish that this young singer shows some tension in the recitative --- both musically and facially. Zeani show both and it is interesting to watch how much facial expressions she has and how she puts accents on the certain notes.
Virginia Zeaniactually mentioned at the beginning of the video that she never tried to "touch" this role This student might have the potential but at the moment is quite strained and fights technically,; she probably took Abigaile's aria as a challenge - one of the most difficult of the soprano repertoire
Veramente brava la signora Zeani insegna con competenza e delicatezza, cosi l'allievo non si sentirà mai a disagio e apprende meglio. L'allieva meglio nel cantabile dal recitato..
Ma siete tutti nati imparati??????Ma come cantante quando studiavate? Sempre pronti a criticare dalla vostra comoda poltrona...dare un parere va bene ma chi siete voi per giudicare????

Her voice is just too undeveloped to sing this. I can hear straining in the larynx and she doesn't have that full weight in the middle of the voice to support the sound. It's extremely risky repertoire if your voice is still in its formative stages.
Sembra quasi che la sig.ra Zeani abbia voglia di essere altrove... questa ragazza così come canta é da mandare al massimo in un coro... la voce c'è ma è tutta da reimpostare e Abigail non è per lei...
Pensi un po...nel coro della Scala non mi hanno voluto perché avevo troppo volume e acuti facili troppo voluminosi ... Dopo essere stata selezionata unica finalista su 83 soprani...in finale ho cantato "È strano...sempre libera" ed è stato troppo... Il direttore mi fece capire che dovevo fare la solista... Poi la vita va come deve andare...

Insegno canto privatamente e sono docente alla scuola primaria. Ho dovuto lasciare la carriera per problemi familiari: non potevo più spostarmi da casa. Comunque utilizzo sempre la musica ed il canto perché sono parte integrante della mia vita e sono soddisfatta delle mie scelte di vita. Grazie
Mamma mia che robe brutte, a questa sarebbe servita una come la Freni che l'avrebbe fatta piangere e forse le avrebbe siatemato la voce. Mamma mia se arriva in teatro una così io i pomodori me li porto dietro eccome.
adesso capisco la frustrazione dei giovani cantanti. dopo lunghi anni di ''studio'' ecco il risultato finale! vergogna! questo non e' canto, e' un suicidio puro. quel gâchis !

L’ultima Abigaile con la quale avevo cantato era Ghena … no comment il vecchio

You are so wrong... Mrs Zeani was happy to teach me something in that short periodo and she gave my name for audition in Attila and Nabucco. You can say the real thing about a voice only after a live audition!
Grande la Zeani e bellissima voce l'allieva ma secondo me un lirico pieno, al massimo lirico-spinto, ma non la trovvo assolutamente vocalità o temperamento da Abigaille.
Tosca Callas ''bella voce'' ? cosa di ''bello'' c'è in questa vocalità stridula e acida ?... io una voce ''bella'' in questo video non sento. questa ragazza deve vocalizzare almeno durante un anno ...
